  5. Mine came today (or at least I think it's my secret santa, I haven't unwrapped it or even opened the card). And once I can be bothered to get up and get my bank card I will be ordering the one for my giftee.
  6. I've had a pretty rubbish day. I got a migraine while on the bus today so had to turn round and go back home. Then had an argument with my vice-manager because I phoned in half an hour before my shift started, I'm sure you'll understand I couldn't have phoned earlier. She was like 'you must have known before' and 'it is a migraine isn't it, not just a headache' (one of my pet hates is people saying they have a migraine when it's just a headache, so this made me annoyed on a whole other level). And even though I was apologising and said if I could have phoned earlier and I understood that it made things hard for her she was still saying it was unacceptable. It made me upset at the time, but now I'm more angry.
  7. Twilight (so bad it was good again, just cause you laugh at it) and 28 Weeks Later (good as the first and scary in some different ways)
  8. Well I actually bought the first book I've ever bought from Boarders today! Due to everything having up to 50% off, I am much more of a Waterstones fan, I just don't like the atmosphere of Boarders, but when I get to save money I don't care so much.
  9. Finished The Secret scripture yesterday (review) and started The Lucifer Effect by Zimbardo. Today bought In the Kitchen by Monica Ali and an exercise book for me. And Christmas presents, a baking book for my best friend and Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood for my Mum. All from Boarders due to massive sale.
  10. The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry Synopsis (from amazon) Nearing her one-hundredth birthday, Roseanne McNulty faces an uncertain future, as the Roscommon Regional Mental hospital where she's spent the best part of her adult life prepares for closure. Over the weeks leading up to this upheaval, she talks often with her psychiatrist Dr. Grene, and their relationship intensifies and complicates. Told through their respective journals, the story that emerges is at once shocking and deeply beautiful. Refracted through the haze of memory and retelling, Roseanne's story becomes an alternative, secret history of Ireland's changing character and the story of a life blighted by terrible mistreatment and ignorance, and yet marked still by love and passion and hope. Review 4/5
  11. My sister snt videos of my niece attempting to crawl today, she does a kind of shuffly pulling thing, it's so cute.
  12. Yeah it was on radio 4 earlier, the bbc is usually pretty reliable.
  13. I want to read The Evil Seed, I haven't read anything by Joanne Harris for a while. And don't feel like n intruder maisy, we don't bite!
  14. Midlands Today. They managed to do a pro-Birmingham report without mentioning that it has more miles of canal than Venice
  15. Baked potatoes
  16. hmm, I never use Boarders really. I don't think I've ever actually bought a book there, I use the Paperchase and the Starbucks. Ours barely has any books anyway, more of it seems to be taken up with CDs and DVDs and I'm more likely to go somewhere like HMV for those
  17. Almost cried reading The Secret Scripture on the bus today! I guess I'm more into it than I realise
  18. Neighbours, as per usual
  19. Not read anything today but got a load of books back from a friend, and sent the first two Sookie books back to Weave
  20. I don't see why books should be excluded because they are aimed at children. Some of the best books I've ever read have been children's books. Maybe they aren't especially sophisticated, at least in the way they're written, but that doesn't mean they can't carry weight. I am a bit of a Harry Potter nut, and well I don't think that the writing itself is the best writing- probably just average, I think the way the story progresses with clues throughout the books, and some of the research JK put into things does give it something extra.
  21. I watched Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2 last night. I thought Legally Blonde was silly but the second one was even worse! Good fun though.
  22. Read some more of The Secret Scripture on the train, it's getting hard to put down now but I don't feel the need to pick it up either.
  23. Me, Chimera, BookJumper or Stephanie2008

  25. I can do this one! 1. I used to be able to get my right leg behind my head, but haven't tried for years 2. I've never really know either of my grandads, my Dad's dad died when my Dad was 16 and my Mum's Dad died when I was about 4 3. The day I got together with my boyfriend I knew I could fall in love with him 4. I have osteoporosis (brittle bones) and the boyfriend has dyspraxia (basically bad co-ordination) so if we have kids it could be a real disaster 5. I wear hearing aids and hate showing my ears. I lost count of the number of times I got told to tie my hair back at school.
