  1. The 4400 Definitely should have kept on running longer than the 4 seasons it got - there was lots of scope for further story lines.... sadly - even after a fans campaign of sending sunflower seeds to tv execs (if you've watched the show you'll know the significance) it failed to win a reprieve...
  2. I'm currently reading Homicide - A Year On The Killing Streets by David Simon - around 60 pages in out of a total 646.
  3. Yeah, that was my impression as well - i got that after reading Surviver. At that point i'd only got Fight Club to draw comparisons with but having now read this as well it re-inforces that view point. I've got Diary to read soon - then i'll probably pick up his other ones afterwards.
  4. I think Oliver Stone was going for a similar effect in Natural Born Killers - mind you most of the first half of the film made interesting use of filters etc.
  5. I really enjoyed this. The main character did have a certain humour about him - i laughed out loud several times throughout the episode. I really felt for him though when it showed the flashback of him reading the note pinned to the door, then opening the door (purely because of what had already been said about Red Johns drawing. Also - at the end where he went home and just laid down on the mattress under Red Johns drawing. It's obviously an all-consuming need to bring him to justice. I'll definitely be watching this throughout the series.......
  6. I'll definitely be watching Primeval tonight - it'll be interesting to see how the story pans out after the cliffhanger at the end of last season. On the subject of Robin Hood - not so bothered.....
  7. Funny you should say that - she reminded me of Edvard Munch's Scream painting. I swear my tv breathed a sigh of relief when she got fired!
  8. Yeah, i did enjoy it. The structure threw me a little bit at first - expecially when some people got more than one story. I found myself checking the list of stories at the back to check i wasn't losing it. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's one of my all time favorite books (I think American Psycho is more 'up there') but it was definitely very readable.
  9. Start at the front, top of the page. Read down the pages and towards the back of the book.......... Sorry!
  10. I think taken out of context of the book it does seem pretty pointless and gratitious however being currently around half way through the book it's become clear that the character who wrote that story is a bit of a pervert in general and looking to ever push the envelope to obtain sexual gratification. The entire book isn't the same and is in fact shaping up to be pretty good. I'll try to review it more comprehensively when i've finished it.
  11. I'd definitely recommend picking them up. I've enjoyed the 2 that i've read and want to pick up the others as well.
  12. Taking Enid Blyton into account i read The Enchanted Forest and The Magic Faraway Tree first. Both great books. The characters living in the tree and its various lands stick in mind even now.
  13. I've read the empty chair and the coffin dancer so far. Both really really good. One thing that stands out in Deavers writing is his meticulous research into whatever field his book intrudes into. Coffin Dancer features large amounts of aeronautical jargon with twists that shock you one after the other - having read a lot of books in this genre i was still genuinely surprised at the twist which revealed the coffin dancers identity. Heartily recommended.
  14. Having just started to read Haunted 'Guts' is the first story that's ever stopped me in my tracks - i had to put it down for a couple of minutes before picking it back up and continuing. I found myself clenching as i was reading. I'd heard about its notoriety but wasn't honestly prepared for the actual subject being written about so graphically. I've progressed beyond that now and am quite enjoying the rest of the book.
  15. Me neither - it's been a few years since i read it though but it certainly didn't stick in my mind that it had no chapters.
  16. First fantasy - Raymond Fiest / Magician First horror - Stephen King / It.
  17. Having now increased my list of Michael Connelly books read i'd say my current favorite is split between The Poet and The Narrows. The usual tight plotting and crackling dialogue combined with a truly diabolical villain put these in front of the others in my opinion.
  18. Only one i can think of that made me leak was The Green Mile. Very sad at the end.
  19. I agree. Neil Tennant has a valid point. No-one can accuse of him being a one trick pony either having worked with (outside of the Pet Shop Boys) producers such as DJ Fresh and Superchumbo (who has - under various guises - provided remixes of various Pet Shop Boys tracks.)
  20. There's also talk of them reforming i believe. I don't have this album but i do have 'The Best Of Stone Roses. I think favorite tracks for me are 'I Wanna Be Adored' and 'Fools Gold'
  21. That's the first video which i thought of when seeing this thread. Utterly bizarre. Also - Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up. MTV will now play it but for a long time it was difficult to find anywhere playing it because of its content.
  22. I've got The Priestess Of Avalon by the same author - i got it years ago as one of the books to fill out my obligation to a book club - i've never gotten around to reading it but think i may do now you've recommended it.
  23. I'm currently around half way through the book and am so far really enjoying it. Having read the reviews on Amazon i'd agree that there's a lot of technical and hostorical information woven into the book but done in such a way that you never get bogged down. Having never read The DaVinci Code i'm not qualified to compare it to this but i'd certainly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in adventure fiction who wants something more out of a book than just a great story.
  24. Much as i love CSI i work late on tuesdays so don't get chance to watch it - CSI NY has been good so far this season though.
