  1. Completed Desert Spear Last night, thus bringing me up-to-date with Peter V.Brett's The Painted Man saga. Hugely impressed with it. It started a little slowly but gave a great background account of what was happening during the first book in Krasia (for those that have read the first book). Once it catches up to where the first book left off, it carries on from the multiple perspectives of all the other characters turning the book into a Fantasy Opera of sorts. Thoroughly enjoyed the character development as well as the story telling. Can't wait for Book 3 to be published now. I really do recommend people read this series. I can see this becoming quite popular once people start to find out about it. Now that's over I'm back to Peter F. Hamilton with Pandora's Star. I've been told it's a little bit of work but still a great read and lays the foundations for the Commonwealth Saga with I am eagre to get to.
  2. Holy Thread Revival, Batman! Stargate SG-1 is my absolute favourite TV series. Although the later seasons without Jack O.Neil/MacGyver were lacking a certain something..... I can't think what..... TNG comes a close second. I never saw any Farscape or Battlestar Galactica so I couldn't comment. Amanda Tapping is Le Gorgeous.
  3. My Fiancée and I have been going through the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series. Loved the first one and the second one (The Girl Who Played With Fire) and Enjoyed that too, though not as much as the first. Saturday we'll finish with The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.
  4. Stephen King The Wind Through the Key Hole (Dark Tower Series) This should be released April this year and is meant to slot in somewhere between "Wizard and Glass" and "Wolves of The Calla" and is a couple of stories as told by Roland to his Ka-tet of is journeys before his sets out in search of the Dark Tower itself.
  5. Hello and Welcome. You'll find that pretty much everyone here is more than welcoming and accommodating. A finer bunch of fellows you couldn't find. I hope you reignite your love of reading quickly.
  6. Just finished The Painted Man. My review can be found Here
  7. The Demon Trilogy, Book 1, The Painted Man by Peter V. Brett. (The Warded Man to those of you over the pond) Synopsis: The Painted Man, book one of the Demon trilogy, is a captivating and thrilling fantasy adventure, pulling the reader into a world of demons, darkness and heroes. Voted one of the top ten fantasy novels of 2008 by amazon.co.uk. Mankind has ceded the night to the corelings: demons that rise up out of the ground each day at dusk, killing and destroying at will until dawn, when the sun banishes them back to the Core. As darkness falls, the world's few surviving humans hide behind magical wards, praying that the magic will see them through another night. As years passed, the distance between each tiny village stretched farther and farther. It seems that nothing can stop or harm the corelings, and nothing can unite the dwindling populations. Born into these isolated hamlets are three children: A Messenger teaches 10-year-old Arlen that it is fear, rather than the demons, which has crippled humanity. When she is only 13 summers old, Leesha's perfect life is destroyed by a simple lie, and she is reduced to gathering herbs for an old woman more fearsome than the demons at night. And young Rojer's life is changed irrevocably when a travelling minstrel comes to his town and plays his fiddle. But these three children all have something in common. They are all stubborn, and know that there is more to the world than what they've been told, if only they can risk leaving their safe wards to find it. My Review: My Aunt suggested this book to me on Boxing day, telling me that my cousin, who does not find interest in reading, read the first page and was out buying the sequel just 2 weeks later. I've been completely unable to put this book down. The characters are exceptionally well drawn and very believable, the plot line is fresh and original and the action scenes were so intense, I found myself having to stop to make a cuppa to calm down at several points. A thoroughly riveting read that I highly recommend to anyone who likes the fantasy genre and recommend even more to those wanting to break into the genre. As for me I am now starting Book 2 of the, as of yet, unfinished Demon Trilogy and will hopefully have another review shortly.

  9. I thought reading those before the Void saga would give me a better insight, as I believe they take place in the same universe but the Commonwealth takes place several hundred years before the Void.
  10. I got a Kindle 4th Gen (the one without a keyboard) for Christmas. I absolutely love it to bits, even though I swore that I would always prefer reading an actual book. Its the convenience that does it for me. Being able to keep the thing on me nearly everywhere I go and it's just so comfortable to hold. Plus, I see the progress bar at the bottom of the page a challenge so I'm actually reading quicker. I also got the leather hard cover as another pressie. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-Kindle-Leather-Cover-Black/dp/B004SD1XB0/ref=bt_atcg_mine_img_0?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1EHE0P7JYP8G8C9766PD&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=270298167&pf_rd_i=426479031 It adds nothing in terms of weight or size and the inside of the cover is svelte so I can put it on my knee and not have to hold it when I've got my feet up.
  11. Thanks for the warm welcomes, guys. Lopeanha, according to my Kindle I managed 60% in just 3 days. It's fantastically gripping so far. The writing is easy going too. It's not bogged down with names that are hard to pronounce or large confusing words that hurt my poor brain. Karsa, I've already purchased the Kindle book of Desert Spear in eager anticipation. I was going to start on Pandora's Star after The Painted Man but Mr. Hamilton will have to wait just a little longer. Thanks Chrissy. It's really good to be back. And thank you for my Birthday wishes back in June. Sorry it's taken me until now to say it.
