  1. I have noticed that the love-hate divide for this book seems to be based on parenthood. People who do not have children tend to dislike it, whereas those who have had children, particularly new mothers (like me) love it. Am I totally wrong? Do you love this and not have children?
  2. I started with Kafka on the Shore and loved it. Wild Sheep Chase had a great beginning, but I was a bit disappointed by the ending. I'm looking forward to reading lots more of his books.
  3. I'm afraid I didn't enjoy this one. I was expecting a thriller, so perhaps that is why I was so disappointed. It was more of an observation of the super rich than anything else, and I didn't get anything from it. The characters annoyed me, and the plot was a bit far fetched. It just wasn't for me I'm afraid.
  4. I don't remember any sex scenes in the Gargoyle, but I could be wrong. There may have been the odd swear word, but I don't remember them being particularly frequent. Sorry I can't be of more help - it has been a while since I read it.
  5. I enjoyed reading this book too. The writing from the girls point of view was really realistic. Probably one of the best writing of a child's perspective I have seen for a long time, if not ever. I found much of the middle section to be average, but the ending was great.
  6. I loved this book. When I finished it I wasn't so sure, but after a bit of time for reflection I realised how clever this book is. I recommend it to everyone!
  7. Give the Resurrectionist a try! It isn't the most amazing book in the world, but it does have some great bits in it. I think it is well worth reading. It's dark and atmospheric, and you learn a lot about death in Victorian times!
  8. The Gargoyle contains many distressing scenes, about life as a burns victim. So if you are upset by descriptions of burns then you should definitely avoid this book. I can't remember any crude scenes, but I'm not sure I can remember any in Mr Y either - sorry I can't be of more help! Jackie
  9. The best place to check book prices is www.bookfinder.com, as they check all the sites around the world. I just looked up your book, and it has been reprinted loads of times, with new copies available from
  10. I loved The Sea initially - the descriptions were beautiful, but very quickly they became repetative and I began to get bored of them. The plot was very slow and it was lucky that it was such a small book or I wouldn't have finished it.
  11. I enjoyed this book too. If anyone hasn't read it yet, then I recommend reading 'Great Expectations' on which this book is based first (if you haven't already!) as it adds to the reading experience a lot.
  12. I haven't had any problem with the colour coming off the edges. I really enjoyed The Gargoyle. Some sections were amazing! I got a real insight into the life of a burns victim. I did think that some of the historical sections were overly long, but overall it was brilliant!
  13. I loved the Life of Pi! It has been a few years since I read it, but I still remember what a great page turner it was, and how cleverly written it is - especially the ending. I recommend it too!
