  3. Diane's Reading List - 2017

'Between Sisters' by Cathy Kelly I can't remember if I have read any Cathy Kelly before. My sister gave me the book. I mostly enjoyed this easy read about Cassie and Coco. Being brought up by their grandmother, Pearl, after there mother leaves them when they were very young. Cassie remembers her mother but Coco (hated this name) was just a baby. But eventually we find out why she left. Cassie is married with a husband and two daughters and Coco is single and runs a vintage clothes shop0. The book deals with everyday life, families, break ups, romance and second chances, friendships, alcoholism. Lots of characters to remember and at times I found it a little to long and drawn out with not much happening. Of the two sisters I liked Coco (despite the name). It had a good enough end if a tad predictable. 3/5

  8. Diane's Reading List - 2017

'Harry the Poisonous Centipede' by Lynne Reid Banks Not a grown up book but I was recommending it to someone on Facebook re books for ~7/8yr old grandson and this one came to mine and Kenny still has his copy, so I decided to read it...took me back to when we read stories to our boys. Harry is a centipede and lives with his mother Belinda in the tunnels underground. He isn't very brave and his friend George is always tempting him in to being more adventurous, but sometimes this gets them in to bother. They know the shouldn't do naughty things they have been warned about by Belinda....like not to go Up the Up Pipe...and beware of and keep away from Hoo-Mins. It is a lovley wee read and I enjoyed it in a fun way, full of 'squirmy' fun. Was nice to go back to a childhood favourite of my boys when growing up. 4/5

Actually out of the 3 I have read that was the one I liked....
  12. Diane's Reading List - 2017

' Rough Music' by Patrick Gale Enjoyable enough but had trouble keeping up with the past and present chapters and names at times. I didn't find there was really a plot as such, which kind of disappointed. A childhood summer holiday gone past and 'coming to terms with uncomfortable truths about parents and himself'. They are joined one summer by his Uncle and cousin and repercussions of what happened back then come to a head in the future chapters. Affairs happen within the family. Dementia is mentioned regarding his mother, which was a touch sad in places, but written with sensitivity. 3/5

Testing, testing ....1....2...3......hope we can get choice of fonts back again though....but have to say the update looks quite nice and tidy.... One question....there used to be a wee arrow at the very bottom of the page in the middle and could take you back to the tope of the page again...has that disappeared...was useful rather than having to scroll back up.
  20. Your Book Activity - March 2017

I've still not finished 'bookshop'..will I ever. Oh I hope you enjoy it....one of my top reads last year. Oops...I did it again. Wandered in to BHF charity shop for a browse and saw a book that was on my wishlist....well it was only £1 and £1 in their loose change tin, so I had to buy....'The Two Week Wait by Sarah Rayner' (One Moment, One Morning author).

  22. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind...
  23. I have the same title written twice, but there is the potential there to move it to another category if I get around to reading another book that would fit in.
