  1. Have you ever had a book that you can't finish? Not as in you lose interest in the first 50 pages, but as in you get to the home stretch -- 50 pages to go -- and you can't bring yourself to wrap it up. No interest left to even find out what's going to happen. I've been reading The Transcriptionist for what feels like an eternity. Normally, when I get to the last 100 pages of a book, I am racing to the end. With this book, I really don't care. I was enjoying it at first. I'm not sure where the line was crossed. 44 pages to go, and I don't think I can do it.
  2. Top 5 (or 10) Wednesday

Dystopian-- Margaret Atwood-- The Handmaid's Tale Science Fiction -- Orson Scott Card -- Ender's Game
  3. The Humans by Matt Haig always tops my sci-fi list. Others off the top of my head are Brilliance by Marcus Sakey, The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey (save for one chapter that was just beyond my comfort zone), and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.
  4. What's the weather like?

    Seconding that.
  5. Do you keep eggs in the fridge?

In the fridge, because the carton says, "keep eggs refrigerated."
  6. What's the weather like?

It's only 92, but it's so very humid.
  7. What's Up in July 2016?

Thanks, Gaia! The medicine finally kicked in, and we wound up having a fantastic time. This morning, we're going to have breakfast on the beach, then we're going to head down to St. Augustine. It's the oldest continuous settlement in the United States, and has a lot of pretty Spanish architecture, unique shops, and such. My daughter went when she was little, but doesn't remember it.
  8. What's the weather like?

Absolutely beautiful. 86, zero humidity, sea breeze -- I'm living in the wrong state.
  9. What's Up in July 2016?

Drove four hours to Florida today to take my daughter to a concert. We ordered room service before the show, and I am as sick as can be. I have been taking medicine like mad trying to hold it together. I made it through the opening act, now just another couple hours until I can get back to the hotel.
  10. Pokemon go

The servers keep crashing because they can't keep up with the load.
  11. From what language to what language?
  12. Cross trainer at home - good idea or not?

The high end ones are way more machine than most people need. Unless you are confident you will be a fitness fanatic, I would opt out of that. The cheap ones are only good for very light use from a normal to light-weight person. If you're going to be using it with any regularity, you work hard, or you're average weight or above, opt for the mid-range.
  13. Pokemon go

My daughter and husband are out playing it right now.
  14. What are you eating just now?

Popcorn for dinner. Stovetop, not microwave, so it's marginally more healthy.
  15. Hmm...I tend to think of sci-fi, action, mystery, and suspense when I think of page-turner. What are some examples of books you've really enjoyed? Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton is mesmerizing -- no romance, though. 31 Hours by Masha Hamilton is supremely riveting, but controversial. The Camel Bookmobile by the same author is captivating and has a bit of a love story woven in. If you happen to like a little mystery, I really was stuck on Malice by Higashino Keigo.
  16. What's the weather like?

Blazing hot. My car overheated yesterday, which is always fun and expensive. I also had to work outdoors for part of the day. Even though I drank four liters of water yesterday, I still woke up this morning feeling dehydrated.
  17. Short Stories

If you're looking for quirky short stories, check out One More Thing by B.J. Novak.
  18. What are you eating just now?

Leftover hamburgers that my husband grilled last night. Still delish.
  19. What's Up in July 2016?

Thanks, we had fun. Too bad on the mirror! Brave you on the DIY install.
  20. What's Up in July 2016?

Enjoy time with your family, Gaia!
  21. Top 5 (or 10) Wednesday

The first one that comes to mind is The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. It's a horror/sort of zombie thing, and I never read anything from that genre. I can't think of any others off hand.
  22. Book Titles A to Z

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  23. What are you eating just now?

Just had some fantastic Indian food. So good.
  24. Lurker showing up

Welcome to the forum. Happy reading.
  25. What's Up in July 2016?

Heading to Tallahassee today to do some shopping. We meant to go to Atlanta but got a really late start, so Tallahassee it is. Tomorrow, I go back to work, but my husband and daughter get to go to the beach.
