  1. They all sound pretty good, I'll look into them. Thank you!
  2. Just a fun fact to add here! My A-Level law teacher actually knows the woman who wrote it, through her sister in law I believe, and apparently when my teacher read it she put it down and just stared into space for quite some time. She couldn't believe that such a quiet woman could come up with such a thing! The phrase "it's always the ones you least suspect" springs to mind!
  3. I'm looking for more and more new books to read, but now I'm stuck one which ones interest me. I have over 90 books on my kindle in the to read collection but I still want more haha! I like Harry Potter, John Green, Sarra Manning, Sarah Dessen, and Jodi Picoult. If anyone has any recommendations I'd be very glad of them, thank you!
  4. I am, i'll be doing basic english studies with creative writing. I'm staying at home while I study though so I essentially will have unlimited money for books (within reason). Perfect!
  5. I loathed A Room with A View when I first read it, because I had to read it for college. However, when I later read it for pleasure I quite enjoyed it. I'm intending to read A Passage to India soon. I don't think Forster will ever be one of my favourite writers but still, quite enjoyable.
  6. I've never read any of her books, in fact this is the first time I've heard of her. If you have any recommendations of her books I'd be glad of them! I think I am going to give reading it a go, I get my student loan soon so I might treat myself to it!
  7. It was The Far Pavilions! Thank you so much Little Pixie, you've saved the day!
  8. Thank you all! I kept meaning to ask my teacher to tell me which it was, but sadly I've left college now! Perhaps I should ask my uni lecturer as a way of introduction? If not, I may have to make a trip back to college, because this is plaguing me!
  9. Hello everyone! I've been looking for a certain book for a few months now after hearing my English teacher talk about it, but I can't for the life of me remember it's title or author! All I can remember of it's plot, is that it's set in India, there are two sisters and one marries a rich Indian man (not sure of his official title) and the other marries an English (if I remember correctly) officer. The wealthy man dies and the sister is about to be burned alive on his funeral pyre as was custom, and the other sister comes to watch with her officer husband, however she begs her husband to kill her sister before she is burnt alive to save her pain so he shoots her from a distance. I'm sorry that this summary isn't very good, I am literally just quoting the way my teacher described it. I've searched the internet many times for it but to no avail. Thank you!
  10. Hello! I'm Hayley, and I love books (who would have guessed?) I thought I'd better join a book forum because my best book friend is going away to uni in two weeks and after that I won't have anyone to gush over books with! Hopefully I'll make some new book friends on here
