This is basically your typical haunted house horror, I loved this and it was only my 2nd Masterton novel, though I did prefer the previous one I read but, this was a completely different horror book entirely.

This story is based in the 1940s in Connecticut, USA and is based on the Buchanan family. Elizabeth, Laura & Peggy. They are just average children and their favourite story is The Snow Queen which they like to act out. But, one day Peggy falls through some ice in the familys pond and dies, this naturally devastates the whole family.

Peggy returns as a spirit, and always seems there throughout her sisters lives. She causes death to people in Elizabeth & Lauras lives in the most gruesome ways, and freezing cold is always a reason for their death.

This was a brilliant horror story, and some disturbing scenes most notably the rape scene, but its all to add to the story and not to sensationalise.

This was my introduction to Masterton, and a really enjoyable one. Spirit throws you into the story, starting off with a death. The events immediately after are well described, and quite emotional.

From there I felt that I was entering a rather predictable ghost story, but I became pleasantly surprised. Masterton took the predictable, and added a real twist to it. It develops into a good, memorable story.

I've found a new author to look out for!
