Hi! I'm new here so I don't know if someone already requested this but I can't seem to find any prison escape books like Paul Brickhill's The Great Escape. I live in Croatia, so you can imagine that our library's and book stores aren't exactly rich with content. So what I'm looking for is a well known and popular prison escape book I guess... Could anyone help me out?

If you've not already read it, you could always try the novella, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption which is in the compilation called Different Seasons by Stephen King. It was made into the very excellent film, The Shawshank Redemption and is even better in print. Highly recommended.

Papillion by Henri Charriere is a fantastic book. It is the true story of a man (nicknamed Papillion) who is wrongly accused of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in a penal colony on French Guinea. From there he makes numerous daring attempts to escape. This was made into a film starring Steve McQueen and although enjoyable it is nowhere near as good as the book. A thoroughly brilliant read!

Then there's a book that was referenced in the movie The Shawshank Redemption, also about a prison escape, called The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It's quite a long book, and only part of it deals with imprisonment and escape, but I highly recommend it because the entire book is brilliant. It's a classic, so hopefully you wouldn't have any trouble finding it in your library!

Another one that is partialy to do with an escape is The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope - it's a rip-roaring swash-buckler of a read and another classic. Well worth giving a try.

Hmm, sounds good, Kell. Think I'll add it to my wish list!

Why not try "The Wooden Horse" by Eric Williams. A true story of an escape from a German P.O.W. camp. Or "The Long Way Home" by John McCallum. :readingtwo:

How about Midnight Express by Billy Haynes - the only book that's kept me reading through the night
