Your three choices for the September Reading Circle Poll are as follows:

Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller:
Schoolteacher Barbara Covett has led a solitary life until Sheba Hart, the new art teacher at St. George's, befriends her. But even as their relationship develops, so too does another: Sheba has begun an illicit affair with an underage male student. When the scandal turns into a media circus, Barbara decides to write an account in her friend's defense--and ends up revealing not only Sheba's secrets, but also her own.

Entertaining Angels by Joanna Bell:
Joshua Gilfoyle has decided there are two things he wants from life before he dies: to find his lost son and to commission an artist to produce his lasting legacy - a new angel for Foxbarton church. His family can't understand why he's already bidding his life farewell, but Joshua is not a man used to opposition. However Julia, the artist he's employed, doesn't believe in angels - unlike her daughter Hebe. Although she's desperate for the commission, she's frightened her artistic inspiration has run dry and is beginning to wonder whether making the angel is beyond her ability. But as Hebe's extraordinary gift begins to affect everyone around her, including even irascible old Joshua himself, there seems to be more than a touch of magic in the air as the mysteries of the past finally begin to reveal themselves.

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie:
In 1960`s Nigeria, a country blighted by civil war, three lives intersect. Ugwu, a boy from a poor village, works as a houseboy for a university lecutrer. Olanna, a young woman, has abandoned her life of privilege in Lagos to live with her charismatic new lover, the professor. The third is Richard, a shy Englishman in thrall to Olanna`s enigmatic twin sister. When the shocking horror of the war engulfs them, their loyalties are severely tested as they are pulled apart and thrown together in ways that none of them imagined...

The poll will close on the evening of Sunday 17 August to give everyone plenty of time to get hold of the winning book.

I've actually read two of the books in the poll this time, so I'm voting for the one I think was a better read and has more issues to discuss as it certainly encouraged lively debate at the Posh Club meetnig when we read it there!

I voted for Entertaining Angels, as I have already seen the film of Notes on a Scandal and I prefer to read the book *before*I see the film!

I went for Entertaining Angels. I have already read Notes on a Scandal (it's great), and I have Half of a Yellow Sun on my tbr, but I don't feel brave enough to tackle it at the moment.

I`ve voted for Entertaining Angels. I've read Notes on a Scandal. I nominated Half of a Yellow Sun as I loved it ... but have also read it already!! Plus wasn't sure you should vote for your own nomination!!

I haven`t seen any reading circle discussion about the August book, The Memory Keeper's Daughter... am I missing something or has it just not started yet?

Lol Tambo. I have been concentrating so much on getting my library book and bookrings read so that I can get to the book I really want to read, that I almost forgot about this month's book.
