Challenge to figure out what book this is

I've been trying to remember what book this is for quite a while, I wonder if anyone has any idea?

The only real information I have to go on is one character in the book

He is an emperor or a king of some sort. There is a scene in the story where he has a contest with another ruler. This contest is very particular in that it is a narrated storyteller contest. Very similiar to the games where each person gets one sentance to add to a story. The contest in the book is about a war, its purpose being to avoid the bloodshed of each emperors soldiers...

That's all I really have to give you, if anyone has any ideas i'd appreciate it a lot!

Hmmm, I don't beleive that's the one, I think the main character of the novel is a boy, not a girl like in the mirror..

On a side note though, Larsen's book does look like an interesting read
