I am desparately trying to find a book that a friend of mine read when she was young. She thinks it was called Ben and was about a child with Down's Syndrome whose mother, out of shame, shut him away when he was born and told her friends he was dead. Eventually she met someone who either had Down's Syndrome or had a child with Down's Syndrome and started to realise how special her child actually was. I can't find this book anywhere so I'm not even sure if that is the correct title. The author she thinks was called Louise, possibly Bourne or Bowen. Any help would be appreciated.
