I realise this is something of a long shot but, having recently become somewhat addicted to poker, I'd like to re-read this little gem.
I'm pretty sure I remember it correctly. The main story was about a father (and his son I think) who was a professional card player/gambler. They both travel to Vegas to try and win a fortune at the casinos. When they are there they discover that luck is this "force" that they can at first learn how to perceive and, ultimately, control. They learn to notice when the forces of luck are changing one way or the other. I remember certain passages describing how the water in a glass would start to rise or fall depending on how their luck was about to change.
I wouldn't call it a fantasy book as such, more semi-supernatural!
Anyone have any idea what this book was called? Or who it was by?
