Hi all, I really want to read a few of Agatha Christie's books, but I dont have any idea where to start :irked: I think I like the idea of reading the Miss Marple ones :) Do they have to be read in order? :irked:
Any other suggestions?
Thanks xx

I wouldn't think so Kelly. I've read or listened to about half a dozen. My favourite to date is The Sittaford Mystery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sittaford_Mystery).

You dont have to read in any order - Id start with any Miss Marple one they are all great :readingtwo:
DD loves Christie's works, and got this crazy idea some years back to collect them all. Some are surprisingly difficult to find!

You can quite often get good deal on Christie through the book people - I got 10 books for £9.99 (as I recall they were all Miss Marple books). If you don't want to buy them my local library is stuffed full of them (though many are in the large print section).
I think my favourite Miss Marple is At Bertram's Hotel.

They currently have 10 Hercule Poirot books for £9.99 plus P&P of £3.50 (http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10051_121338_100_500020__category_).
If you haven't used TheBookPeople.co.uk before, I can recommend them. They send out a catalogue about every 6 weeks but there is *no* obligation to buy any more titles from them, unlike some book clubs. :)
I've got all her books - I collected them years and years ago and revisit every now and then. I think I may re-read them all but in chronological order of when they were published (not when they were written)
Here's a list of them all on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agatha_christie#List_of_works) it even tells you who the detective is in each (if any). Don't click the links though as there are major spoilers in the plot pages.

My absolute favorite Christie is "Murder At The Vicarage". It's an excellent one to start with featuring Miss Marple.

I read Death in the clouds not too long ago, it was excellent easy reading! I find the books are often in charity shops and bazaars, at least where I am. :)

the best book i think was death comes as the end...it was quite chilling and the murderer was someone so unexpected.

I enjoyed A Murder Is Announced, which was one of the first ones I read. Also, Elephants Can Remember, and Nemesis are both excellent, and not quite the normal country house set up of a whodunnit.

I've meant to give Agatha Christie a try on and off for a while now, but have seen so many TV and film adaptations over the years worried I'd be reading one and suddenly half way through remember 'who'd done it' - and have the experience ruined. I have read the 'Miss Marple The Complete Short Stories' and enjoyed those very much.
Knowing who did it gives you an entirely different take on them as you read. I shouldn't worry. It's fun to see if you can then see how clever she was with her writing.
Lots of her books have never been televised though

Good point. I've enjoyed reading John Le Carre's 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' and indeed watching(and re-watching) the TV series - being fully aware who the traitor is.
Will have to add one of Christie's novels to my reading list :)
Well if you like spy stories you may be best to start off with a Tommy and Tuppence Beresford book :)

Yeah, that's it. I read it in French, so I don't know English names.
Anyway, this book is fantastic. I read it three times :tong:

And then there were none is also my favourite Agatha Christie book - though I really like all of them very much.
I already have a couple of her books and am thinking of getting them all. Does anyone know whether there is a pubilshing house that has published all of them, so that one can get the books as a series?

I've got all the books but they are from different eras and different houses.
It makes quite a difference with the covers and the various interpretations
You may find the answer to your question on the wikipedia link I posted earlier

Harper Collins (http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/index.php?contentid=262§ionid=105&parentid=14) publish Agatha Christie's books. They are doing a lovely series of replica first editions which show off the beautiful cover art.
If you like to collect sets, you could look out for the Tom Adams (http://www.tomadamsuncovered.co.uk/printshop1.html) paperback editions. These had wonderful illustrations on the cover, which if you looked you should have been able to solve the mystery!
I collect Agatha Christie first editions. I have most of them, and ma now left looking for the very rare ones which when they come up for sale cost thousends. I am hoping I'll get lucky at a carboot sale as thats the only way I will be able to complete my collection!

Thanks a lot for your replies. I already know the Harper Collins ones but I think I heard that they haven't published all of Agatha Christie's book. But I'll check again.
I didn't know Tom Adams yet - the books do really look great. I might start getting some of those even if he has not illustrated all of them. The covers are really s.th special:)

I am reasonably sure that Harper Collins own the right to all the Chrsitie books. However, every so often they re-issue them with a new set of cover designs, so it could be that they haven't re-issued all of them under the current design.
