I'm trying to find the name of a book I read about in The Times a couple of weeks ago..

As much as I can recall from the article; the book was first published in 1998 and slowly became something of a cult, it's now being reissued due to demand. The story concerns a woman who moves to (somewhere like) Dorset and befriends an old man. The man reveals that he and the woman have been friends in many previous lives and have known each other for over a thousand years. The article aslo went on to say that there had been a website and online petition to get the book re-printed and that original copies were being sold on ebay for up to £80 each.

The name of the book was one word and was a person's name (albeit an unusual one) that I cannot for the life of me recall. Does this ring any bells with anyone, and can someone tell me the book's name ?

Many thanks in advance, it's driving me nuts trying to find it...

Ah, success...

Thanks for the suggestion of trying The Times archive, a few key-word searches later and I've found it; the Book is Ferney by James Long.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

I may be an old cynic but I really never expected for Skaj to come back and tell us what it was if it was found.

How lovely to be proved wrong

Becuase people whose first post is a question rarely reappear in my experience.

Like I said, I'm a cynic. Doesn't stop me helping them though, I like to think I'd get the same if I needed help and went to a likely source for it

Incidentally, I've read the review and I think that may be my first book to buy with my credits - it looks great

I was quite surprised she found it because I read the Times and I didnt remember it. Of course I dont get the Saturday Times because its full of "bits and pieces" that I never around to reading, so the article she was on about may have been in that issue. Its good to know that the Times archive works though isnt it?

I can never get website searches to work for me so I'm impressed too.

i find if I put what I want in google along with the source, I'm much more likely to turn it up
