View Full Version : Dr Who Series 4

I'm surprised there's no comments yet! My basic feeling was that it was aimed just a little too 'young'.. it reminded me more of a Sarah Jane episode. But, on the whole, good fun.. the adipose were cute and funny, DT was just as adoreable, CT was not too bad, and we LOVED the glimpse of Rose at the end! (I'm still a little annoyed they're bringing her back, but my daughter's love for her is catching, and if they handle it well it may be ok.)

I would imagine views will be divided, but I thought that for an opening, it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to the next 12 weeks. :)

As I mentioned in my blog, I nearly lost control of my bladder when it started. I'm stupidly, childishly, hyperactively excited about this. I loved every minute.

Even though Rose's teeth annoy me, and CT is just irritating beyond words.

I honestly don't care though. The Tennant makes up for that in spades. Watching Doctor Who is the most fun I've had on my own since...well, uh...so. Good show tonight, huh?

The first episode was a lot better than I thought it was going to be, I was not that enthused about Catherine Tate being the new Doctor's assistant but hey give the girl a break eh?, she was okay but it is early days fans!

I thought the adipose were the cutest wee things ever! The part with the Doctor and Donna mouthing to each other was really funny:lol: And the 'amazing' appearance of Rose, I thought she as gone, get gone girl!

It may have been her first episode but remember we've seen her in the Christmas special '06...and hardcore fans have been following internet news and trailers for months now. So we've had time to make up our minds. ;)

(The proper addicted have also been to conventions and exhibitions).

The creature feature was a tad pants, but the actual story and interaction was solid. A good start methinks.

I thoughly enjoyed last nights episode! Roll on next Saturday....

And I thought Catherine Tate was great!

Mia
6th April 2008, 19:59
It was okay, I suppose, but I wasn't too impressed. I agree with Michelle that it was too childish, like a Sarah Jane adventure.

Things I liked:

Being able to look at David Tennant. :D
The bit with them mouthing to each other was good, and hilarious when they looked round and realised everyone in the room was watching them!
The fact that they found each other - I wasn't keen on CT the first time I saw the Xmas ep (too shouty), but when I watched it again she grew on me. I felt sorry for her regretting her decision to stay on Earth and then changing her mind and desperately trying to find The Doctor (although the fact that she turned him down in the first place may go to prove that she's not right in the head).

Things I didn't like:

The whole story was a bit daft, and so was the Doctor. Surely the name "Adipose Industries" would have alerted him sooner to a connection to the Adiposians?
Sarah Lancashire hamming it up.
The utterly ridiculous Wile E Coyote moment when the teleport beam switched off and Sarah L took the time to look around and down before gravity suddenly kicked in, just like in a roadrunner cartoon.
The Adipose themselves - too cute to be menacing, but people were dying, ie poor Stacey. But I guess it doesn't matter that she died, she was only a comedy fat person.

So, it was nice that Dr Who is back, but I hope next week's ep is better than this one.

We thought that was a bit lame too!

I also loved the miming bit. Some of the members on the Neighbours forum said they were having difficulty following the conversation - I guess that's when being slightly hard of hearing comes into its own as I had no such problems!).

It was great to see Bernard Cribbins - I love him as an actor.

He appeared in a 'non cannon' Doctor Who film years ago!

Sad that the actor who played Donna's dad died. :(

All in all, about a 7/10 for this episode, but I have high expectations.

Last year I wasn't as into it as series 1 and 2, but this series looks like a good one. I love Catherine Tate- so funny! And my brother liked those Adipose, or whatever they're called, the aliens that were made of living fat after taking the tablets. I can't wait until Saturday- that one looks good when they're in Pompeii!

Looking forward to tonights episode, Hoping that the adipose were just a funny entry to the new series

Mia
12th April 2008, 19:59
Well, that was a vast improvement on last week's opener! A much more multi-layered story, with serious moral issues to decide, ie should the Doctor save the people of Pompei, knowing what's going to happen? Again, Donna was his "conscience", as was pointed out, he "needs someone sometimes".

I have to say that the "look" of the episode was amazing - either a lot of money was spent on it, or it just looked that way! I loved the way everything was in red tones and hot looking - you could feel the heat just watching it. Very good indeed.

I liked:

The sulky teenage boy - teenagers were the same even in those days!
As mentioned previously, the look of the thing - the Sybiline priestesses, the sets, the flame monster thing (looking kind of like Treebeard aflame).
The running joke that every time they actually spoke Latin, it came out as Welsh!

I didn't like:

The fact that I couldn't tell what Donna was saying sometimes - she needs to speak more clearly.
The miraculous escape from the mountain. Doctor: "If we pull the lever we're not going to survive this." Me: "Oh yes you are, it's only episode two."

But all in all, a very good, enjoyable episode, even though it was rather sad.

Michelle
12th April 2008, 20:39
Mia, I couldn't agree more! I'm afraid Donna is annoying me a bit, and I'm not yet sure if I'll get used to her or not. The storyline was really good.. even though I had to explain it to Beth afterwards!

I think this could be the reason that Dr Who is popular with so many people - having the different writers means that there is something to please everyone.

Prospero, did you ever see him in Casanova? A great series (but sad at the end).

prospero
13th April 2008, 18:08
I didn't, as I wasn't into him then and the story didn't appeal to me. I became a convert when he became the Doctor, though, as I'd always loved the show so it was inevitable I'd fall for whatever actor played him.

"Casanova" was when I first became aware of David Tennant and thought "actually, he's rather gorgeous!" It's certainly worth watching. :)

1) You can watch the latest episode any time you want for up to a week after it has been on by going to www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho)

2) David Tennant has a really weird "oh, ****, we're all gonna die" face. He should get a new one

3) people should stop telling the Dr he looks older or DT will get a complex

4) one of my friends said Fires of Pompeii was boring, another said it was confusing.

5) I am refusing to get excited about the return of Rose until she has been AND gone again, because there are so many ways that it could be done badly.

6) I always think the first episode of the series are less serious than the others. I loved the jokes and funny scenarios eg the window talking

7) CT's voice is annoying, but she did well. I like their relationship and the Spartacus thing. I liked the thing in the first episode with the "You just want TO MATE?????"

8) I have run out of things to say. Dammit. I wanted to get to 10

Series 4 hasn't been bad so far and tomorrow's episode looks quite cool (ok I didn't mean to make that into a joke but it could work when you see pics/clips of the Ood-sphere lol)

The best episode so far in my opinion so far was the 1st but that was plainly and simply because we saw Rose! :D:lol:

I really can't wait till the finale of this series it'll be amazing!!

I wonder if The Doctor will regenerate (NO!!!) soon seen as it was "Every song must end" if so I hope Harry Lloyd is the next Doctor like the rumours
Just a guess.

Mia
20th April 2008, 20:32
That "every song must end" comment was a bit worrying.

That was a good, enjoyable episode with lots of emotion, humour and "doing the right thing".

Liked:

The Doctor looking even more gorgeous than usual! :smile2:
The bit with Donna in her hood not hearing a thing.
Donna going into "Lauren the teenager" mode briefly: "Miss?! Are you saying I look single?!!"
Tim McInnerny getting his just desserts (he's put on quite a bit of weight since Blackadder, hasn't he?)
The whole slavery storyline.
Some scary bits, like when Donna was locked in the container with the red-eyed Ood, or when they were both seconds away from being killed ("DoctorDonna! Friends!").

Didn't like:

Er... nothing, really! Apart from the worrying comment that every song must end.

A solid, entertaining episode. :D

Woohoo! Martha's back!

Mia
27th April 2008, 19:44
Yay! I like Martha - she should never have left so soon.

Mixed feelings about this story. It seemed a little slow and stretched out to fill two episodes.

Liked:

Lots of humour, with the saluting and Donna demanding her salute!
Martha being back and warning Donna what life with the Doctor could be like.
Evil sat-navs - cool! (But aren't they already directing people into rivers?!). The woman's death near the beginning was done well and was rather nasty.
The Doctor trading grammar with Rattigan.
The evil Martha replicant! Next week should be good. :)

Didn't like:

That evil Rattigan brat - he was like Artemis Fowl without the charm and conscience.
The Doctor fannying about whilst Donna's grandad slowly got gassed in his car. Hello? Couldn't you have broken a window or something?
The whole episode could have done with a bit more pace.

Laramie
28th April 2008, 17:45
YOU'VE MET TOM BAKER??? COOL!

ahem

I've met Colin Baker and John Barrowman.

I wasn't that keen on last night...It was good, but not one of my favourites, which it should have been with UNIT (THEY CHANGED WHAT UNIT STANDS FOR!! HOW DARE THEY!!), the Sontarans and Martha. It had some good ideas, but I don't think it should have lasted for the whole 2 episodes so they had to spread it out a bit. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, it just didn't stun me. Ooooh, that clone-thing was cool.

Oh, also, why were the UNIT soldiers so damn scared? They're supposed to be used to dealing with aliens, and there they were terrified of a dark room! :motz:

Oh, and the suits are the wrong colour, and they have....ahem....an unaturally large....chest area....

It's weird.

I quite enjoyed tonight's episode, and thought it was better than the first part of the story. Random thoughts:

Good to see Donna's mum showed some sense by getting an axe and smashing the car windscreen to rescue her dad, which is more than the Doctor managed.
"Brattigan" showed some decency in the end and sacrificed himself (though I wasn't worried that the Dr would actually die at this point in the series!)
But most importantly: near the beginning, on the TV transmission, was that really Rose saying "Doctor" that popped up onscreen for a few seconds, or did I imagine it?

Well, I don't really know what to say about this one. I think I was expecting slightly more from it, so was a bit disappointed.

I thought thatthe Doctor's daughter would be someone who'd been around for the last 19-ish years, living her life, not someone who was instantly created from a tissue sample. It was all a bit weird. I was pretty certain she was going to get shot by that General, and also had an inkling that she might not be dead. That leaves it all open for them to meet again.

I do love seeing people somersault unscathed through laser barriers - completely improbable but impressive all the same! :)

I think the whole concept of the war that had been fought "for generations" was quite clever, and I liked the ending when the Doctor released the terraforming thingy.

Poor Martha had a tough time, and I felt sorry for the Hath who rescued her and then died himself.

All in all, I thought it was a strange episode.

I am sad enough to have done Latin in school and the course we followed was the story of a family in Pompeii, their names: Caecilius, Metella and Quintus!

I studied those books too. For the final exam they gave us the bit of translation about the volcano erupting and poor Cerberus sitting at his master's feet, whining.

Needless to say, there were many sniffles from a very upset class of twelve year old girls during that exam. I think I'm still traumatised!:lurker:

Michelle

Mia, we always seem to have opposite views about these shows, because I really liked that one! ;)

I do know what you mean though.. there have been rumours about him having a daughter, and you would have expected it to have been someone who had been growing up over the past few years.. with a history etc. However, it was interesting to find out that he has had a daughter previously, and it sounds like she was killed - that man is carrying some serious baggage around!

With regards spoilers etc, I think that once a show is aired, there is no need for spoilers. I, for example, didn't get to see this episode until this morning, so I simply avoided the thread. It seems silly if people won't discuss a show, just in case someone hasn't yet seen it. :) (I'll add a sticky to this forum, explaining.)

Isidro

Way back before I was born, in 1963, William Hartnell's Doctor had a granddaughter - Susan, so it makes sense that he had a child, how else do you get to be a grandparent?

I wasn't expecting the cloning/whatever thing though, and I'd love to see her come back at some point.

But but but (pedant alert) Why did she not regenerate fully?

Laramie
11th May 2008, 13:44
Because she wasn't a proper Time Lord. That thing in her mouth was Time Lord energy, like when the 9/10 regeneration went wrong.

We think Jenny's gonna marry Jack XD

And my dad thinks they should do a spin-off with her in XD

I think she will be back in the finale

I was disappointed it wasn't his real, natural, biological daughter. Could've been amazing.

I so wanted, when TD had his arm in that thing going "ow...ow!" for them to make Martha and Donna do it and they just look at him and go "it doesn't hurt! you wimp!" and then he goes "I was being dramatic."

Series four is my least fave so far. Almost all have disappointed in some way, though they were still good.

Yes, I think that was what disappointed me. It was like "stick your hand in here - oh look, you've got a daughter"! And... didn't the soldiers say everyone had to be processed, but then only process the Doctor? I didn't notice Martha or Donna sticking their hands in the machine.

However, it was interesting to find out that he has had a daughter previously, and it sounds like she was killed - that man is carrying some serious baggage around!

Oops, I completely forgot about even hearing that! Old age must be creeping up on me. That does sound interesting.

Well, I LOVED last night! The best this season IMO! And one of my faves overall. With most of the others, excluding Planet of the Ood, I've been disappointed in some way, but this one was great. Just as good as it used to be ^.^
I liked Partners in Crime, too, but it just wasn't special. I always like the first episode in the season the least...well, I liked New Earth, and I'm not saying that this Partners in Crime. Better than the Sontaran episodes and The Doctor's Daughter. It just didn't have that extra sparkle.

Aren't most Dr Who episodes bordering on silly anyway? =P

Anyhow, I thought the episode was alright - I liked the Whodunnit? style!

Mia
18th May 2008, 19:41
It was like a Poirot episode for juveniles with added silliness, but mildly entertaining. I did like Donna trying to secure the copyright for some of Christie's as yet unwritten books! Also her reaction to being called "the plucky young girl who helps me out"!

I did think this week's episode was quite silly, but I liked it because of its silliness. I loved spotting the book titles (how they managed to work in "N or M") and Donna giving plotlines away - it did make me giggle.
Nothing to do with the champagne I'd had with tea. Honestly.

If I'm going to be really honest, I don't think this series of Dr. Who is as good as Tennant's others.

This may be a dum question, but are they going to re-generate the Doctor this series?

I've quite enjoyed this series, overall.. I think they've all had high and low points.

As far as I'm aware, David Tennant is doing the Christmas special, plus 3 specials next year (there will no actual series) - no one knows beyond that.

I did hear that Catherine Tate is stopping after this series...?

The stopping-someone-on-the-street-and-getting-them-to-draw-something was a load of old toot though. There's always a pretty good chance if you ask someone for a doodle they'll present you with a cat; it's a common enough thing.

my mum said it's to do with prompts. She said somewhere on his way to meet darren brown or even in the room, there would have been a picture of a cat, looking just like that (didn't he have to move some paper? it was probably on that), and the same for the person he asked.

He did this trick a while ago where he got these people to do a poster for something, and he knew exactly what they were going to write because of all these prompts they saw without even realising it when they were in the car.

Nemesis
Sparkling Cyanide
Taken at the Flood
The Body in the Library
The Moving Finger
The Murder at the Vicarage
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
The Secret Adversary
They Do It With Mirrors
Why Didn't They Ask Evans

They mention Poirot too - right at the start they are asking her why he's Belgian.

Here are all the ones they put: The Man in the Brown Suit, Appointment with Death, The Unexpected Guests, The Body in the Library, The Double Clue, Strange Jest, The Unbreakable Alibi, The House of Dreams, The Four Suspects, Curtain, Wasp's Nest, The Lonely God, Dead Man's Folly, Murder is Easy, The Blood-Stained Pavement, The Call of Wings, Cards on the Table, The Love Detectives, Butter in a Lordly Dish, While the Light Lasts, The Theft of the Royal Ruby, Endless Night, Crooked House, The Actress, Ordeal by Innocence, Personal Call, Taken by the Flood, The Moving Finger, Sanctuary, They Do It with Mirrors, Nemesis, Destination Unknown, The Voice in the Dark, Death Comes as the End, Murder at the Vicarage, Dumb Witness, Have You Got Everything You Want?, Death in the Clouds, Destination Unknown.

Well, I assumed they were Christie novels, anyway. Dunno if they are.

As a lifelong Doctor Who fan, I've been equally pleased and appalled with what has been done with the show these last few years. The return was fantastic and the pairing of Christopher Ecclestone and Billie Piper was a great piece of casting. It's just a shame that Ecclestone bowed out so early as the gurning fool that is David Tennant has been a lowlight of the show for the last three years - his incarnation, when he finally moves on, will probably by my least favourite doctor of the ten who have, canonically, played the role.

As regards the episodes, I'm still not convinced that 45 minutes is long enough for a good episode although there are instances (Blink, for example, or The Girl In The Fireplace) that show it can be done. I suppose by citing those two it shows utmost respect for what Steven Moffat has put in to the show. Russell T. Davies' episodes are more hit and miss (with an overuse of the same old tropes) but, at the same time, I realise he is writing more episodes than anyone else. He has produced some good ones (The Long Game, Gridlock, etc.) but there have been a number of right stinkers in there, especially that awful Big Brother/The Weakest Link in space episode - and that's his problem, he like to shoehorn contemporary references into a time travel show, as if some crappy TV programmes will still be getting commissioned in the year 51st Century. (If one is, please let it be Doctor Who, of course.)

But, at the same time, RTD has produced an interesting four season long story arc, which we are soon to see the finale of. While the scripts may have been dodgy at times along the way, it's also plain to see how much seeding has been done as far back as season one as regards the finale of season four.

It will also be great to see what the latest production crew can do with Davros, who is hinted at in the latest season trailer on the BBC website.

Sedgewick
29th May 2008, 11:06
I think she [Jenny] will be back in the finale
Probably not. The plan was to have her die at the end of the episode and that was the last we'd hear of her (thankfully). But, Steven Moffat asked that she be kept alive, for purposes unknown, and with him set to take over the show in 2010, I see that as being when she comes back into the series.

Tonight's episode was rather good! It was bloody scary in parts too - all the kiddies must have been terrified at the sight of a skull in a spacesuit menacingly stalking towards our heroes (I know I was scared!). Ha! It was too confusing for me, never mind a 9 year old! ;) But it all became clear at the end.

Hold onto your hat Michelle, 'cos I loved that episode too! I thought the whole concept was very clever. Stephen Moffatt is probably my fave Dr Who writer, and I'm glad he'll be taking over from Russell T Davies.

The bit with Donna in her virtual world was quite unsettling, the way everything moved on in a flash, but excellent. I love it in films etc when the character finds themselves in a weird place and knows everything's not quite right, but they can't find out how.

It was such a shame at the end when Donna just missed seeing her perfect husband and he couldn't shout to her in time because of his stammer! Nooooo!

I'm glad River Song was "saved" as that was a bit sad and she was very brave. Loved the bit of humour about the handcuffs!

A good script from Moffat, let down in some places by his use of repeated tropes, especially his 'The Doctor Dances' cry of everybody lives, the get-out-of-jail card that was a trapdoor leading to...er, nowhere...to aid the Doc's escape.

The second part was also a bit predictable but still contained many good ideas, notably characters conscious of scene continuity, in the case of Donna in the hard drive. I doubt we'll meet River Song again, at least on TV, as it's an interesting bit of speculation that should last and last and last, if you believe Moffat in Dr Who Confidential.

Overall, though, it was the strongest of the season so far and will probably remains so, especially since it's all Davies epsodes from now up until 2010.

I can't make my mind up about that episode... I sort of liked it, but sort of didn't! It was quite clever, but the endless repetition of people's words started to drive me nuts. Saying that, I was very impressed with Lesley Sharpe and David Tennant; when they had to say their lines simultaneously they were spot on! (Unless it was editing trickery, in which case I'm so disillusioned. :( )

I know why I didn't like it: it was too much a Lord of the Flies situation, with everyone turning on everyone else. Plus my beloved Doctor nearly got murdered. :( Plus, I actually think it suffered from Donna not being there. She would have been great, but of course it would have spoiled the story as the Doctor would have had an ally.

Liked the fleeting Rose appearance. Next week's looks amazing, but I'm scared Donna is going to get killed - they've been dropping hints all over the place. :(

Michelle
16th June 2008, 20:01
Something's wrong here Mia, because we seem to agree again! The repetition and such got just a bit too much, but it was scary in a very different way to usual episodes.

May daughter is a huge Rose fan, and she is SO excited about next week's.. I think it looks amazing too.

However, there was an article about in the Dr Who magazine (the 'gown up one, not the one with all the free gifts etc ;)).. I'll spoil tag it, for those who keep away from everything like that.. apparently it's something along the lines of the film Sliding Doors, and it shows a Donna who has never met the Doctor. So it could all be an 'this is how her could have been' kind of thing.. so you could have a dead doctor, and a nuclear war, and yet none of it will have happened.. if that makes sense?

Wow, that episode was amazing! I loved it, even though DT was hardly in it.

I'm fascinated by stories based on what happens if you take a certain decision or go a different way, so this was really interesting for me anyway. The whole thing was bloody scary really. The part where the family were taken off to the "labour" camps was downright disturbing and nearly had me in tears. :( And the father of the family was so dignified and stoic, even though he knew what was going to happen. *sniffle* Donna was a bit slow on the uptake there though.

Overall, I thought Catherine Tate did a really good job and carried the episode well. I got so caught up in things that I didn't really miss the Doctor at all (unthinkable!). I think she makes it very believable - it's a nice change to have people showing they're terrified, instead of being all gung-ho about things. When she realised what she had to do and made the ultimate sacrifice... Very brave indeed.

It's nice to see Rose back, even though at the moment I still think it's a bit of a cheat. I thought her voice was really weird tonight though - how come I've never noticed before that she talks with a Sean Connery-esque, mouthful-of-cotton-wool type indistinction? Has she always been like this?

I loved the end of the ep, when Donna told the Doctor "Bad Wolf", and his reaction, then when they charged outside and all the signs read Bad Wolf, even the ones on the Tardis. Excellent! :D

Can't wait for next week's ep (it's not the last one, is it?).

It's nice to see Rose back, even though at the moment I still think it's a bit of a cheat. I thought her voice was really weird tonight though - how come I've never noticed before that she talks with a Sean Connery-esque, mouthful-of-cotton-wool type indistinction? Has she always been like this?
We commented on that too - it was decidedly odd.

I'm pretty sure next week's isn't the last one. :)

Shlightly shtrange, washn't it? I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that before (it certainly wasn't in the Canterbury Tales).

I missed the first 20 minutes tonight, so found it all slightly bewildering, especially that Catherine Tate had gone back to being slightly shrieky, but by the end it all made sense. Kind of.
Looking forward to next week's episode now

Fancy missing the beginning! Basically, Donna went to see a fortune teller, and the beetle got on her back. Together, they pushed her back in time, and made her turn right instead of left.. this meant that she got a different job, and therefore changed her future. She never met The Doctor, and so wasn't there to get him out from under the Thames, after he drowned the Racnoss. So, the story from then on was what would have happened without The Doctor.

Rose was 'sent' to help her, by sending her back in time, to make sure that she made the right decision.

We were at a get together yesterday, and it was really funny seeing silence descend as it started. Plus, there were more adults enthralled than children!

Yesterday's episode was mazing!!!

Rose is quite creepy in a cool way now.
Bet she can't wait to meet The Doctor again
The great hair line had me nodding and laughing

The entire episode can only be described in one word: WOW!

Really can't wait for next week's and then the week's after.

I just wish Owen and Tosh weren't dead so we could have 4 hot guys and loads of great girls.

The part where the family were taken off to the "labour" camps was downright disturbing and nearly had me in tears. :( And the father of the family was so dignified and stoic, even though he knew what was going to happen. *sniffle*

That had me in floods!

Yes to the drumming and I am beside myself!

Mia, you must have been sitting on my sofa, my nine year old cried

Mia
28th June 2008, 20:18
I suppose a 9 year old has some excuse - don't know what mine is! No, I didn't cry, but I'm feeling very depressed. (Yes, I know it's just a TV programme.) I just hope there's some loophole where he regenerates into... David Tennant!

Michelle
28th June 2008, 20:47
Well, as I said, there have been photos of two doctors; someone has said that having his hand in close proximity might stop him changing during the regeneration; there's also the fact that they're a second ahead whilst in the medusa cascade.. maybe things change when they come out?

I have however, said to my daughter that IF David is leaving, I shall SOB! People have been posting photos of the filming of the Christmas special though, with him in it - surely they wouldn't go THAT far to pretend he's staying on??

As for Donna, there has been talk on forums about her being a timelord (lady?). I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, because the fob watch thing has been done twice before.. but going by how excited I got when I heard the drumming, I actually think I would love it! :D

According to threads on Digital Spy...
people are talking about her name and her job as a temp (which is mentioned every ep.)

In latin, Donna Noble Temp is: Lady Lord Time.

But, if true, it assumes that it was always their intention to keep Donna on, even when she was only meant to be in The Runaway Bride, so who knows!

I'm not really sure where you two are going.. gutted because of the episode, or gutted because it's ended? Views are mixed on the digital spy forum, that's for sure.

I'm going to say that I really enjoyed it.. the scene with Rose could have been quite sickly, but there was that feeling that she wasn't quite convinced, and she didn't have her doctor.

I found the scene very emotional when Davros was pointing out that although the doctor was ant-violence, many people involved with him had died.

The ending with Donna was also sad.. she has really changed and grown during her time with him, and she loved the travelling so much. And now, it's all gone, and she's back to her old life.

And of course, there was the naked David!

Mia

Gutted because of the episode! Though now you mention it, gutted because it was the last one too.

I just feel so, so sad about Donna. The way she'd done so much, been the most important woman in the universe, saved the universe at least twice... and now she's back to her old, humdrum life, without knowing just how great she was/could be. How will she achieve her potential now? Chances are, she won't. :(

Still, as my mum pointed out, she seemed happy in her old life. Also, I guess it would be worse for her if she remembered everything but could never go back to it. But the bit where she begged the Doctor not to wipe her mind... And the bit at the end where she didn't know him and dismissed him casually as some stranger... And then where the Doctor was alone in the Tardis... *sob!*

Conversely, Rose's (second) goodbye didn't affect me in the slightest, even though I was in floods of tears when she first got separated from the Doctor. I just had no emotional attachment to her this time, and her lisping voice was really getting on my bloody wick.

On the plus side, the Doctor "regenerated" into David Tennant! Two David Tennants!! One of them briefly naked!!! (Although the camera angle was a little too high for my liking.)

I don't really understand why the Doctor is always reluctant to kill - he castigated his other self for getting rid of the Daleks, but surely it had to be done? They were going to destroy every other lifeform in all the worlds! Surely a timelord would see that it was necessary to save everything else?

Anyway, it was a good episode, but I found lots of it very sad. :( And now I'll have to wait until Xmas for more David Tennant. :( :(

wow, I'm glad I avoided this thread!! I've developed a sudden alergic reaction to spoilers, so I've been avoiding this thread like the plague for the last few weeks! Good job too, because reading back I see that there were a fair few.

Basically, I LOVED THE LAST THREE!!

Aww it was dead sweet that the *sort of* Doctor and Rose got a happy ending, but heartbreaking for the proper Doctor. I LOVED the German daleks! This Davros is the best I've seen so far (and I've seen a fair few of them). I adore dalek Caan's insane laugh and waving tentacles. I kept doing it all week! (actually, it's in my msn name )

I think we all know that a thread about a show as exciting as this may reveal some tasters, and like Laramie said its easier if you don't want to know anything not to look at all (specially because I can never resist looking at spoiler tags:lol:)

Last night could not follow last weeks I felt a bit anti climaxy I had to put the tea on for the last ten minutes so missed the Donna bit but was sad, think that was the saddest bit in that she had changed so much since she had travelled with D, Bernard Cribbens just made me weep, felt so sorry for the the doctor. Loved the Mickey and Jack relationship and when Donna kept asking Jack to hug her, as usual funny as well as moving!

I like the Cybermen.

Michelle
6th July 2008, 09:19
I think it's very hard making a two part finale.. part one builds up so many things, then leaves everyone waiting for a week.. in which time everyone comes up with their own ideas, rumours etc - I think it's almost impossible to live up to it.

I've just watched it again this morning, and enjoyed it - the bit with Donna seemed even more sad. :(

Laramie
6th July 2008, 10:05
I was a little annoyed that they were using the daleks as a finale again, but at least there was davros too. I think it's a bit stupid to keep using them as a finale, because it's not giving other monsters/villains/aliens a chance at becoming a real legend. The ones in the finale are always remembered the best.

Michelle
6th July 2008, 11:01
Yes, but to a lot of people, the daleks are such an integral part of Doctor Who. Remembering that this was RTD's last finale, I think it was quite fitting that we had the 'biggest', most well known enemies. :)

I have a feeling that when Moffatt takes over, it will be a rather different type of programme, without so many of the big enemies, and many more 'subtle' ones.

Laramie
6th July 2008, 13:15
I'm hoping it'll get a lot scarier now he's in charge : D

Mia
6th July 2008, 18:22
I'm looking forward to Moffatt being in charge, as some of my favourite stories have been his (Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace, the one with the kids wearing gas masks).

I forgot to say yesterday that I too loved the Daleks speaking German! I think they were even more scary than Daleks speaking English! The Daleks have always been my favourite baddies and the only ones that really scared me when I was a child.

Can someone answer me this? The prophecy "everlasting death for the most faithful companion" got me very worried that someone was going to die. But everyone survived didn't they? So who/what does this refer to? Or did I miss something?

Louise - how could you go and put the tea on for the last ten minutes?!!

Michelle
6th July 2008, 18:26
I pretty sure it was meant to mean "death" for Donna, in that she went back to being her pre-doctor herself. I do think that alot of fans, including myself, were a bit put out by that.. I appreciate it's a family show, but don't put so much emphasis on someone dying, if it's not going to happen.

He's done it before, with Rose.. "This is how I died." actually meant that she "died" in our world, but lived in the parellel world.. but that did actually make sense. This time round, it really was a cop out!

Mia
6th July 2008, 18:44
Ah thanks, I was thinking that it meant Donna and was more metaphorical. I'm glad it wasn't literal and no-one close to the Doctor died (it was depressing enough!).

Michelle
6th July 2008, 18:48
Does anyone else feel really depressed and lost now that it's finished? Overall, I have really enjoyed this series, I just adore Tennant's doctor.. and I don't want to wait until Christmas! :(

Mia
6th July 2008, 18:55
Yes, especially as I read that there'll be the Xmas special, then 3 specials in 2009, and then David Tennant will be leaving!!! :cry2:

Michelle
6th July 2008, 18:58
Is that confirmed.. about him leaving? The last I knew, nothing had been decided about 2010.

Mia
6th July 2008, 19:09
I think what I said was just rumour... at least I hope so! DT does strike me as the kind of guy who'll say that he doesn't want to get typecast, and is keen to try new projects. I hope he stays.

Michelle
6th July 2008, 19:12
I do think that they're hoping he'll carry on..
However, Tennant's long-term future as the Time Lord remains uncertain. He will star in a Doctor Who Christmas special this year and another three specials next year, but is not confirmed for the next full series of the show, scheduled for 2010.

The series has been postponed so that the star, who is the tenth actor to feature in the role, can take to the stage to play Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

I know that the Dalek's aren't gone, apparently, they were working on a new breed of them in Italy or somewere, and there was one that didn't die because he wasn't connected to davro's genetic genes. Well that's what I heard anyway. (:
And if Davros wasn't leading the Dalek's, who was? We never found out. I think The Master. http://www.gangparadise.com/Images/smilies/icon_cool.gif
I'm also glad about Rose and The Doctor as well. It's about time something good happened to her. Another funny thing is, I was talking to my friend at school after the penultimate episode, and we thought that the two members of the Torchwood team would die. And I said that I wasn't surprised that they didn't have better defences. And then look at that.. they come out with a time-lock-bubble. Brilliant. http://www.gangparadise.com/Images/smilies/icon_smile.gif RTD will be missed in my opinion, great writer. :)

ooh goody. Though I still don't believe a word that man says, they've got to number 10 without having a woman and it'd just be stupid now. They wanted to regenerate him into a woman, fine, but they needed to start by number 2 or 3.

He won't regenerate into a woman - because he's male. No other timelord has changed gender when regenerating, why should he? The rani never became a man and the master never a woman and they have all died enough to test the theory.
