With the fairly recent release of The Other Boleyn Girl (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0467200/) (based on the book by Philippa Gregory), I was wondering how many other books that have been popular here are being made into films...

... and it turns out that The Memory Keeper's Daughter (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0955298/) (a favourite amongst reading circles everywhere) is now a film, due for release this very month in the USA (although I can't find a date for a UK release yet).

A few others being released this year whose titles I recognised from being mentioned here are:

The Book Thief (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0816442/)
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0468500/)
Cirque du Freak (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0450405/) (which I will TOTALLY be seeing!)
The Bell Jar (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0844467/)
The Twits (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0498396/) (which I read as a child and would LOVE to see!)
The Rule of Four (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0796356/) (which I will NOT be watching)
This Book Will Save Your Life (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0765250/)
Marley and Me (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0822832/)
The Time Traverler's Wife (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0452694/) (which might be worth a look)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0417741/)
Blindness (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0861689/)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0499448/) (which I will not miss!)

Has anyone else heard of any recent or forthcoming releases based on books that have been mentioned here on the forum? (Yes, I know there are countless film adaptations that have already been made, but I'm talking about the newer ones that seem to be coming out in a spate.)

Couldn't stand TOBG due to the complete lack of historical accuracy but I would pay my last red cent to see The Twits on screen. I love, love, love that book. In actual fact I love it so much I'm be scared but I'll still go to see it, hoping it does the book justice.

JS&MN strikes me as more suitable for a mini-series as it's so long.

If I have trouble sleeping I'll see The Rule of Four.

Thanks for posting the list, Kell. These are the ones I'm interested in seeing:

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0468500/)
The Bell Jar (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0844467/)
The Twits (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0498396/)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0417741/)

The Twits would be interesting, but I'm not sure that justice could ever be done to the book. If it was to be animated (Disney-like, not Pixar-like) then maybe it would have a chance.

I would love to see JS&MN and The Bell Jar. And Harry Potter goes without saying.

And these are the ones I'd like to see after I've read the book.

The Book Thief (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0816442/)
The Time Traverler's Wife (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0452694/)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0499448/)

I'm sure there are a few I've heard of that are supposed to be in the works, but I can't for the life of me think of them right now. I'll try and dig them out.

I cannot imagine what they will do with 'This Book Will Save Your Life' - I might go to see it just in case I can make sense of the nonsense that I read last year.

Thanks for sharing them Kell :)

I'd love to see The Other Boleyn Girl, however I'm far too young apparently, as I'm only 12 so I have to wait.:irked: That's a shame, cos the Tudor era-I love it.
