Sorry, nothing too exciting! ;)

~ When you go into your User CP, and then 'Edit profile', there are all sorts of things under 'Additional information'. If you fill in one of them, it shows up on your profile. These are easy to add to, so is there anything that you think might be interesting to add?

~ Certain fields can be picked up, and made to show under your name, over on the left hand side...

Do you think the LT name should be displayed there?
How about the BookCrossing one?
Is there anything else you think should be there?
(Please keep in mind that I really want to restrict what we have there, as they take up alot of room.)

Thanks!

Hmm, I don't really have any suggestions for adding extra fields. I agree that it would be good to keep it down to a minimum. Even with the new LT field it looks a little...cluttered. I think maybe it's because there are two text fields right on top of each other, whereas the two original text fields (Location, Currently Reading) are separated by the gender icon. Does that make sense? I'm sure I'll get used to it, and if I don't, I'll just remove it from my profile!

So...yeah...that's my opinion, for what it's worth

"Would you like to smack prospero's legs or kick her in the face?"

Hmm.

What about 'number of books read this year'? Sorry, that's the only vaguely sensible suggestion I can come up with. Let me go wash my hair and I'll see what I can come up with later. ;)

Yes Kylie, it does make sense.. and I'm all for not makingit too cluttered. :)
Any more opinions before I decide?

I think it's okay as it is. I would maybe even get rid of the LT name - I agree with Kylie that it's a bit difficult to read when it's two text lines next to each other. I guess you could make one bold if you wanted to keep it?

Thanks.. I've taken LT out of the side bit. I'll have to add something to the FAQ telling people that they can put it in their profile. :)

If you want to add soemthing else - perhaps 'Member since xx/xx/xx' although it is fine and neat as it is at the moment.

That was already there, but I took it out. :) It's available on the profiles though.

Why isn't my 'currently reading' showing up?:irked:

It is! I see:
Reading: The Book Thief - Markus Zusak

I fiddled with my profile and clicked on 'save changes' again and it mysteriously appeared! What evil is this? Michelle. Clearly you are possessed and need to be banned from the interwebs. Don't worry about this site; I'll take charge.

I don't really mind it there. I never even knew something called "LibraryThing" existed so when I saw that there I was persuaded to search for it on Google, and then I joined How about the BookCrossing one?
I don't really think it matters if it's there, but it did persuade me to also search about it and I don't want to go around joining every book club or else I would have trouble keeping track.
Is there anything else you think should be there?
Not that I know of.

This ship might have sailed already, but just a thought: it might be interesting to have more space in the 'additional info' section to present yourself, like a longer 'biography' line or an additional 'other interests' (apart from reading ;) ) line.

This would help to know a bit more about the other members by simply viewing their profile. Sure there is the introductions forum which is great for new members to present themselves to the others but its not very practical to go back and look for a particular thread if you want to know more about a member who has been there for a long time...

Sorry beef, it's not going to happen - I want to read the contents of the posts, not be distracted by graphics. :)

Any other input on this issue? I have to go in and manually add other fields.. and I don't want to overdo it. But if it's a popular idea, I can look into it. :)

I like the sound of this idea, but not if it is too much work for you Michelle

What would you like to add, or know about people?

Chimera

Well I wasnt thinking of anything very structured, maybe just a larger 'biography' field where everyone could put a few sentences about themselves: their family, their job/ studies, their hobbies and interests, something people often says about them... Whatever it is they feel like sharing and which will give other users a better idea of who they are, and maybe more insight into their choice of books and reviews.

Alternatively it could just be an 'other interests' field, in order to know what people enjoy apart from reading...

But as I said it was just a thought. Obviously if it is too much work or if we are only two people interested dont bother about it!

I made a few little changes.. let me know if that helps? :)
