What are you having for dinner on Easter. Do you have a tradition of anything special. We always have:

Baked Ham (basted with maple syrup)
Potato Salad
Pickled eggs (with beets)
Corn Pudding (poppy knows how to make it):)
Our granddaughter is going to make a chocolate cake in the shape of a rabbit. (I will take a picture of it)

I love to eat the pickled eggs and beets with horseradish on them.

Now do I put vanilla in that again or not? :10_confused:
Do you have gravy with it?:tong:

Have a lovely time Muggles.

It's my birthday on Easter Monday so i'm having dinner bought for me at my favorite carvery! :D

But as a rule I don't really celebrate Easter as i'm not particularly religious so it would be like any other day.

We always had turkey at Easter but this year we are having Roast beef

This year we will have to have our Easter celebration meal a week late as my DH is at work from 1pm .

When we do have it, I will be serving honey glazed ham with syrup, and all the usual roast vegetables.

I never knew there was a traditional meal at Easter!?

Maybe if I had the money, or I knew OH would be here I would cook and maybe get a special easter pudding in. Maybe when the kids are a bit older..:)

Icecream, it's basically a big feast marking the end of lent and the resurrection. At least that's what i was taught at school.
Simnel cake anyone?

Angel
22nd March 2008, 19:53
That's what I've always been taught Wicci - this is the first year that we haven't been able to celebrate it either on the Sunday or at the latest Monday. We'll have to feast on eggs instead until next weeks meal :). It still doesn't feel quite right though. - it's made me feel out of synch somehow. Hey ho DH working tomorrow and both of us on Monday, opposite shifts

Not keen on Simnel cake though it's too rich for me.

The OH wants me to make one, as he's rather addicted to marzipan. I'm working this weekend so it's no, also he's diabetic so definitely no,no,no!

I don't celebrate Easter for religious reasons. However, my religious principles allow me to buy half-price eggs when Asda puts them on sale and binge on chocolate for the next month. :D

Wicci - Thank you for the explanation. Simnel cake looks gorgeous. I have never had it, but I love marzipan too. I don't seem to be very good at baking cakes. Maybe I will better my skills and venture to make one next year.

I'll tell you what annoyed me...Asda had Easter eggs for £1 weeks and weeks ago. It got closer to Easter and they went up to £2! Still cheap, but a blatant mark-up to rip off people who do celebrate Easter. Come Tuesday, after the bank holiday, I'll be going up there with a wheelbarrow to buy as much chocolate as my bank account (and stomach) can handle!

I have chickens at home so when I need eggs I always have a fresh batch.

As for the Easter Dinner, I don't eat dinner.

I opened the front door this morning to go out and get the Sunday morning newspaper. To my surprise I seen some plastic Easter eggs scattered about, there were 2 in a flower pot and others scattered elsewhere. They were filled with candy kisses. I brought my wife to the door and she started laughing. The Easter Bunny had come.

I think it was the neighbor's kids across the street. I have helped the neighbor put in a vegetable garden and a week or so ago I played some basketball with their 2 boys. What a nice neighbor they are.

It makes me smile how the North Americans are so big on 'holidays' and 'tradition' it's all so quaint

Very cute Muggle.:) I agree with V.

I am too old for easter eggs, so i only have one. Will I make it last, or will i devour it? I know I am a hungry heavily pregnant woman, but on the other hand, Katie will take a long time to eat hers, being only 13 months old, so maybe I will save it.:)

Angel

Icecream - you are not too old for Easter Eggs!

I haven't tackled mine yet - save that for later. Kids have had some of theirs though

I love it,wish we had a bit more of that here. It seems sometimes as if our holidays are being slowly eroded away just to become more shopping days at DIY stores or Garden centres.

Icecream, if you're too old then I must be too as I've got seven years on you; nearly eight. And let me say, if anyone tries to come between me and my chocolate, they're a dead man.

Aww cute rabbit cake, Muggle. :)

We went to my parent's house and had roast pork with all the trimmings. I made pud - we had Delia's Marmalade Bread and Butter pudding. Well, the rest of them did - I had mango and raspberries!

My husband bought me a gorgeous Thornton's Egg with some Belgium chocolates - but I haven't started it yet!

I had to "google" to find out what figolli were. :D
The description of them sounds like they would be great tasting.

My GD has been selected to go to Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, & I think, Italy) this summer as a "Student Ambassador'. She will be there for 20 days and is really looking forward to it.
