Yep, I've used play.com a lot. Their prices are usually about the same as Amazon, but you don't have to worry about making your order up to £15 to get free postage, so they're ideal if you just want one thing. They're reliable and their delivery is quick too. I've just bought some of my Xmas pressies (CDs) from them. Recommended. :)

I've bought quite a bit from Play.com and they've always been great. Even when some stuff got lost in the postal strike they replaced it straight away.

I ordered Life on Mars series 1 on DVD from Play.com on 30 Dec, but thanks to the inability to read of whoever packed it I received 'Meet the Parents/Meet the Fockers', instead.
I rang them last Saturday and they said they'd dispatch it straight away and gave me £1.40 to cover posting the other one back recorded delivery - which I did.
As it took 6 days for the wrong one to arrive the first time (ordered 30 Dec, arrived 5 January) I calculated that the correct one should arrive today but it didn't.
I've rung them again today, and the guy I spoke to today told me that my new copy hasn't even been dispatched. He said we were waiting until you returned the wrong DVD.
I can't begin to tell you how fuming I am now. It's not my fault the incompetent people sent me the wrong thing. Then the woman I spoke to on Saturday lied to me because she told me she'd arrange immediate dispatch of LoM - but clearly never intended too.
Not only that, but they refunded me £1.40 P&P but it cost me £1.90 to send it back.
It's the first time I've used them but I am never, ever using Play.com again. :irked:
Sorry to rant - I'm just really cross/upset about it, as you can probably tell!

That is such a shame. I've never had a problem with play, and plenty of people here like them. I guess it all depends on who you get in customer services, and it is a shame if you miss out on a good site because of it.
Nici's having the same thing with Amazon.. she's having trouble with a delayed parcel, and yet I've always found them great.

I have never had a bad experience with Play - in fact I bought twice from them last Dec - and they arrived OK.

I guess with the number of transactions they must process, companies like Amazon, Play and Blah inevitably get it wrong sometimes, so you must of been one of the unlucky ones, Janet. I've never had a problem with any of those.
The only time I had a problem with a mail order was about five years ago, when one of the Jersey-based companies took my order for a CD on the same day it went into liquidation! Can't even remember the name of the company now, but I remember thinking that was a bit naughty! I just moaned to my credit card company, who gave me my money back.
I still prefer to go into a bookshop and get my grubby mitts on the real thing though, even if it does cost a couple of quid more. Doing an Amazon order can't compare with browsing round somewhere like Daunt's in Marylebone!

My only problem with Play is that they use Royal Mail and it usually takes me twice as long to get my stuff. They have an unusual habit of waiting a few days to see if I have any more parcels they can deliver at the same time and then they only deliver in the afternoon when I am at work, which leads to a redelivery to the local post office and a 50p charge.
