View Full Version : Comparative Reading Circle Mk 2?

As the Classic Vampires comparative reading circle seems to have generated some interesting discussions, I wondered if anyone would be up for another CRC on another theme?

I have a list of possible comparisons (some I thought up myself, others were suggested during the pre-amble for the previous circle), but if anyone wanted to suggest some others, that would be great too. On this occasion you can nominate as many "pairs" as you like so long as they have something ni common and you give synopses of the books you're nominating.

If you'd like to second one of these choices or nominate two books for comparison here, I'll select four pairs for the poll and we can vote on which books will be our next choices.

As with the normal reading circle, please ensure the choices you nominate are freely available in paperback so as to keep the price down.

The nominations thread will remain open till the evening of Saturday 15 September, after which a selection will be chosen for the poll.

I'd like to second the Dystopian Future:
Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

I think that could be a very interesting discussion.

I like that one too.

Also, the Flower and Willow World: Geisha
Autobiography of a Geisha by Sayo Masuda
Geisha of Gion by Mineko Iwasaki
sounds great, too! I loved the movie Memoirs of a Geisha, and the world they live in seems so very fashinating.

Well, dystopian literature being my favourite genre, I can't go past this one! I've read both books but would love any excuse to read them again.

I would also like to second All That Jazz. I've been wanting to read Wodehouse for a while now, and I love The Great Gatsby (both books are also available in the public domain).
