I have 4 tv shows I am watching religiously just now (although 2 of them are just starting out).

These are:

Grey's Anatomy - my all time favourite show in the whole wide world - have never missed an episode - love it!!

Heroes - I am becoming rapidly addicted to this. At the end of every episode I'm gutted I have to wait another week. It's been a long time since a TV show did that.

Brothers & Sisters - Quite enjoying this although hasn't sucked me right in. Don't like to miss it though as I like to see what's happening with the Walker clan every week!

Studio 60 - I thought the 1st episode was really good and I couldn't wait to see more. I was slightly let down by the 2nd one however, on reflection, that may be because I wanna see more of it. It ends too soon! Think this show'll take some getting used to to!

I've just noticed they're all American shows! Can't say I'm ever addicted to any British shows or feel the same way about them as the ones above. Oh and, RIP Friends!!

I don't have any at the moment, because there's nothing on that I watch! The ones I do enjoy are:

Studio 60 - I've seen all the episodes now, so I'm not watching it.
Heroes - Ditto.
Battlestar Galactica - Waiting for the new season to start.
Desperate Houswives - Ditto.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigators - Ditto.

All my other favourites are shows that are no longer with us, as they got cancelled :(:
Firefly
Farscape
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Boom Town
Drive
Sport's Night
The West Wing

So, at the moment, I'm not really watching any TV except while having dinner or occasionally when I'm not in the mood for reading and I channel surf to see what's on, mostly pausing only for a bit of an old film. Yesterday I caught part of Little Women starring Katherine Hepburn as Jo - she was incredibly over-the-top, but was still wonderful (she's such a joy to watch - a phenomenal actor!).

!!

I love it too. I try to watch it every week - although as local time is one hour later than UK it sometimes is rather hard not to nod off! (here it starts at 11.00pm)

.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigators - Ditto.

Love that too.

I'm having an affair with Hannah Montana right now. Well, let's call it a summer fling since some ... uh ... more manly shows will be airing soon, like american football.

It's such a good show, I could write a thesis on how Disney TV and Disney TV movies follow the template of time honored classic plots and simply plug them into a teen-age story.
High School Musical (a huge hit) is merely Romeo and Juliet with a happy ending.
Hannah Montana, Model Behavior, The Parent Trap, Read It and Weep all use the same Prince and the Pauper theme - one pair of eyes viewing two different aspects of the same world.

Hannah Montana is such a great story in itself - the father/daughter on the show are father/daughter in real life - how cool is that?. The father actually was a big music star (if only a one hit wonder).
Like the old tv show, The Monkees, a tv rock group actually sells a ton of records in the real world - Miley Cyrus is the youngest person in history to have two albums debut at number one in the same year.
So, the actor's life is now mirroring the actor's role. Unlike the old "I'm not a doctor, I play one on TV" - Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus play a rock star and has become a rock star.

As of this week (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/chart_display.jsp?g=Albums&f=The+Billboard+200), her album is number five on the overall Billboard charts - not the kids section, overall. It opened at number one six weeks ago.

I love Hannah Montana!! I don't get to see it much, but it always pauses the trigger figger:)

Otherwise it's Daily Show and reruns of the Sopranos for me. My schedule is so variable, I'm just never around at the same time from day to day.

I love Scrubs, although there are only repeats on at the moment. I also love That 70s Show; I know it's been cancelled but we're still a couple of series behind. The only other show I bother to keep up with is House, which is brilliant.

There's not a lot on TV at the moment that I really love.

I'll include Doctor Who (even though it's finished for now) as otherwise my list will be really short!

Heroes is my current fave programme.

I also enjoy Hyperdrive on BBC2. Think Red Dwarf, but not as funny. It's still pretty amusing though, and there are some good characters, especially York. Last night's was pretty good, when York used an illegal electronic gizmo to go into the dreams of the rest of the crew.

I also watch The Simpsons - why are new episodes hidden away on Sunday teatime on C4? (Maybe they're not new, but I haven't seen them.)

That's about it really...

Well I've spent the last two odd hours watching (1) the return of HEROES, & new heroes, are begining to come about, to join the ranks of the heores... and "Sulu" dies.!
and (2). BUT, aha!!! there's always on isn't there,!? there's a very
interesting 'time travel' that IS different. He's married man to boot, with a young boy.! Can't say too much about 'cause I don't want to ruin it for you, but the bloke from that marvellous show "ROME" is the main man. The name of the time travel show,? Journey Man.

I miss Veronica Mars, but I've still got parts of seasons 1 and 2 to watch so I'm not too upset just yet.

I've been watching Grey's Anatomy, the new eppys of CSI Miami, some CSI NY (I've seen all the vegas ones already)...and I'm quite enjoying Mock the Week.

Oh, and New Scrubs, House, and My Name is Earl.

Apparently there's going to be a strike from writers of your favourite shows just across the border over here and you know what the main tv studies are doing about it,? going to show repeats (1) and (2) "making" more 'reality' showes.!!! and they don't know how long the strikes going to last either.

This from the press report from old Blighty.

TV writers' strike may hit live shows in US
Live US TV shows including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart could be taken off air over a dispute between writers and the Hollywood studios over extra payments for use of content in DVDs and digital media.

Hollywood TV and film writers are meeting tonight to discuss whether to down tools or keep working after their contracts expired yesterday.

They could go on strike as early as tomorrow and any industrial action could lead to live shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart being replaced with repeats.

The Writers Guild of America union is unhappy with current deals on DVD sales and the internet distribution of TV and film content.

WGA wants writers to receive a slice of the advertising revenue companies make when TV shows and films are streamed over the internet.

It also wants an additional reward for creating bespoke digital content for the internet or mobile devices.

Contractual talks with the Hollywood studios began in July but have so far yielded no settlement.

The producers are concerned about bringing in a new regime for digital sales when the business model remains uncertain.

They also say their profits from DVD sales are used to meet increasing production costs.

"The magnitude of that proposal alone is blocking us from making any further progress," J Nicholas Counter, the president of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, told writers on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

"We cannot move further as long as that issue remains on the table. In short, the DVD issue is a complete roadblock to any further progress."

Many Hollywood observers expect the writers' union to attempt further negotiations rather than move immediately to strike action.

Live shows that rely on topical gags from writing teams would be affected by strike action.

But the production of films and TV dramas should not suffer in the short term because scripts are delivered in advance.

However, if a strike were to drag on for weeks, scripted drama would soon be affected and have to be replaced by reality shows and repeats.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
US TV shows threatened by strike
Hit US television series such as Heroes and Grey's Anatomy could be threatened by a strike of Hollywood screenwriters.
Los Angeles-based writers are poised to take action over the terms of a new three-year contract, with the current agreement running out on 31 October.

The Writers Guild of America wants its members to receive payment when their work is featured on the internet and via mobile phones.

Broadcasters are preparing to screen reality shows if the strike goes ahead.

Screenwriters last took industrial action in 1988, delaying TV series and costing a reported $500m (£249m).

Film production

If writers walk out, the effect would not be felt immediately as TV networks have enough episodes of shows written and in production to last until the end of the year, industry executives and analysts said.

But after that, schedules will run into trouble.

US viewers could start seeing an onslaught of repeats, game and reality shows when TV shows run out of new episodes.
A prolonged writers strike could also affect next year's TV season as pilots for next autumn are being written now.

Hollywood film production is also expected to be hit, but would not suffer the effects of even a prolonged strike immediately because of the long time required to make films.

But movie studios could soon be wrestling with plots and endings for unfinished 2008/9 blockbusters such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the next James Bond instalment.

Negotiations are set to resume later at the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers offices in Los Angeles.

The outcome of any talks between writers and the studios will set the stage for discussions with actors, whose deal runs out at the end of June 2008._____________________________________________ _____

So there you have it. **** is what's awaits us. Thank God for books and DvDs too. Methinks Video and DvD stores up and down the country both here and in old Blighty, are rubbing their hands in glee.

What do you think.?

Heroes, I can't believe I just recently discovered this programme (thank you catch up BBC 2). I am officially addicted to this show, it is fantastic!

Supernatural, its not on at the moment but series 3 is coming to our screens soon.

Coronation Street, I agree with Judy, is brilliant at the moment.

Charmed, I have been watching it on Trouble, I never realised how many episodes I actually missed of the show.

And...

Family Guy
The Simpsons

Supernatural S3 has started here Gyre (I was wondering why the discussion hadn't started up again - now I know why!) I think the third season has gotten off to a better start than season two. It seems to have gotten scarier/grosser, which I think it was lacking last season. Very enjoyable so far!

Supernatural S3, been on for time here and is heating up nicely, this Thursday's programme is called Red Sky at Morning and the boys investigate... "Sam and Dean investigate mysterious drownings of people who were not near water; a victim's family pays Bela to solve the case."

Gyre, can't believe you've just coped 'Heroes', it's doing very nicely too.

But what'll happen when there's that strike (see above) ITV and BBC going to have bloody awful "reality" shows or....?

Before I list my favourites I just have to make something clear. I am one of those strange people who like to see subtext because it makes shows interesting. Don't hate me for it.

Heroes - My new favourite show. Am catching this on BBC2 and am completely hooked. Plus I'm a secret Petrellicest admirer:lurker:. Please say I am not alone.

Supernatural - Though not on at the moment, I'm a huge fan of this show and am dying to see Season 3.

The L Word - They don't show this on any of the channels I have so I've been watching on DVD. Am up to Season 3 and yeah, this season cemented my love.

Smallville - Am near the end of Season 6 and wow, what a dark season. I hate the Lex/Clark hate (Clex fan!) but I love the twisted relations between Martha, Lionel & Clark. Plus The Green Arrow rocked!

Home & Away - I'm a fan with no shame! I've written fic about this soap and will continue to.

I don't normally watch a lot of TV, but find myself watching a fair few shows at the moment.

Heros: My fave! I notice loads of people mentioning this!

Gorden Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares: Hurrah, adventures with the sweary chef!

Saturday Kitchen: It's a nice relaxing program and gets me in the mood for cooking up a storm in the kitchen.

Masters of SF: Enjoying the show so far!

History of Photography: I likes photograhy, so I likes this too.

Visions of the future: First one was on Monday, but not sure if I'll watch more... it's OK, but a bit too thin on tech and in depth discussion for my tastes.

Whose line is it anyway: Normally catch it most week days on the wonderfully named "Dave" channel.

The McDonald Legend TV AD: OK, I know it's not a tv program, but I love it! It makes me laugh every time. I know, I'm sad lol

I don't watch a lot of TV but at the moment I am enjoying:-

Kitchen Nightmares - Gordon Ramsay is just so good and he really knows how to get stuck in with the work

I've been enjoying Smallville of late, mainly for Lex. I find Clark Kent a little too...earnest. And Lana Lang is a little pathetic. Chloe I like, and I love the fact that Jimmy Olsen's in it now (and I shall forevermore think of him as Troy Van de Graff, thankyouverymuch!).

Also, CSI. Although there haven't been any episodes I haven't seen on lately, and the new season hasn't started. I'm not that invested that I care whether Sara lives or dies, as I know it's entirely political and depends on Jorja Fox's contract. I quite like her character though. I've grown fond of CSI:Miami, though David Caruso's acting is laughable really. And CSI:NY is growing on me...

Bones is back on the air, and I think they're making more of a point about stressing the relationship between Booth and Brennan (which I'm all for). I love the forensic anthropology angle, I love that Zach is back from Iraq, and I'm a little disappointed in the Hodgins/Angela storyline (they're trying to find her husband from ehr Fiji marriage). Oh, and what I'm definately loving? The cannibal.

Oh, and I've been watching House, which I've gotten into quite religiously in the past month or so. Plauisble - no. Godd telly - probably yes.

Then there's the usual suspects of Scrubs, Ugly Betty...and I still miss Veronica Mars...

I really enjoyed The Tudors when it was on, although a bit rude for the BBC  and I've seen they are filming another series of it :yippee:

Loving E.R. still. New series started last week, am very happy about that, although they put it on at 10pm and sometimes I have trouble staying up to watch it, especially when I'm working early.

Have you noticed how he's never looking at the camera? And always is either putting on or taking off his sunclasses, while staring off-camera, saying something that's supposed to be clever, witty and meaningfull and then, almost mid-sentence, walking off? He does that several times per episode!! Oh, and the two other guys, they wear matching color shirts disturbingly often.

Is there ever anything on? I watch coronation street and the news, but I hardly have the tv on. If I am ironing or something then I will look for something good but am mostly disappointed as there isn't anything. I like an interesting documentary or good film.

Moonlight starts in the UK in Feb! Woo hoo!

Interesting that, PO, I don't know if you remember a show of similar 'ilk'
but there was a programme in the eighties called "Forever Knight". See here here for details. : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forever_Knight

And these for some fan sites of said.
1) http://www.foreverknight.us/ 2) http://www.foreverknight.org/

and from old blighty, 3) http://www.foreverknight.co.uk/

As to Moonlight it self, it's ok not brill, I've just seen it done better in the above show. Just my opinion though.

Don't know about that, but I used to love Moonlighting with Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis back in the 80s.

Is anyone looking forward to Ashes to Ashes the follow up to the wonderful Life on Mars? I think it will be good but I'll miss John Simm.

Michelle
31st January 2008, 19:28
I completely missed Life On Mars, and so I've just bought the box set of the first series. (Only £15 in Amazon, for the whole set!)

Is Ashes to Ashes a follow up, or just similar? I think the 80's angle should be fun.

JudyB
31st January 2008, 19:35
From what I've heard it is a continuation of sorts ie. they're keeping the police characters and the time travel element but this time it is a different character who travels in time. For me Life on Mars was just one big nostalgia fest as I was brought up in 70s Manchester and so much was familiar. The 80's are my student years so should be good also.

Hmm just thinking . . . I might treat myself to the boxset.

I was very young in the 70s, but remember more of the 80's. Hopefully both will be fun. :)

My favorites are :

Grey's Anatomy
Desperate Housewives
Ugly Betty

Everything is now a re-run though due to the writer's strike. Y'all in the U.K. probably still have a few episodes before they run out.

Does anyone know if theres any progress bein made with the strike? I think i read somewhere they think its set to last till april if it follows the same pattern as the last one. Did anyone else hear this?

Roland Butter
1st February 2008, 06:22
It does look like the writers are in for the long haul - I'm not aware of any moves to try and settle it. I think the strategy is to wait until the material currently "in the can" dries up, when they think the strike really will start to bite.

It's evident from one of my favourite programmes - The Daily Show - just how much good writers "make" a programme. I love Jon Stewart to death, but without professional writers to script the show, it's looking very lame indeed.

I like British sitcoms a lot for example:
Peep Show, The Office, Extras, The IT Crowd, Nathan Barley etc.

None of those shows have new series out at the minute so I am currently trying to get through all of the old Arrested Development and The Office US that I have downloaded.

In terms of drama programmes, I watch Prison Break, even though I know it's rubbish :tong: I think I'll start watching the new series of LOST too.
