I was just wondering why you can't copy and paste when you are typing a post. Thanks.

I'm able to copy and paste ok, so is this something that you've always had trouble with, or has it happened recently?

The only time I have had trouble was when firefox seemed to be playing up, because I was having other weird problems as well.

Have you tried using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V?

Oh, thank you so much Michelle. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V work. I didn't know that

I've been having this problem as well. Copy and Paste aren't options when I hightlight and right click. But I've just tried the keyboard shortcuts and they work okay.

I have had the same problem. I will try your method next time Michelle.
Thanks for highlighting the problem Poppy. You've helped at least three of us! LOL

Is this in Quick Reply, the full one, or both? Are you using Firefox or IE? Latest versions?

I have a recollection of it being a problem is you had things set up a certain way.. but it doesn't seem to affect me at the moment, no matter what changes I make.

By the way.. as I think this used to have an effect.. are you aware that you can change the way the editor works, but clicking on the double A you can see in the top right hand corner of the box?

One is a WYSIWYG (what you see if what you get) type, and the other shows you code. So, for example, using WYSIWYG, if you hightlight a word, and press the 'Italic' button, that text turns italic. Using the other type, [ I ] [ /I ] (without gaps) appears around the word instead.. ie it shows you the code, rather than how it's applied.

Sigh.. that probably didn't make any sense at all!

I can't highlight, copy and paste in the Quick Reply box or the full advanced one. But I can highlight and copy direct from say the post above me.

I'm a fraid I don't know where to start, to offer help, because it all works fine for me. Therefore it doesn't appear to be something simple with the software. Sorry!

I did try a search on vBulletin's support site, and found one thread where someone else was reporting it happening to some members on his forum.. and no one could come up with an answer.

Is it browser specific? Which are you using, and have you tried a different one?

I'm using Internet Explorer 7. I've not had the problem on any of the other forums I'm a member of, only this one.

Keyboard Shortcuts are the way to go; so many of them work in any program it's worth it to learn how to use them.

For the PC it's the CTRL key, for the Mac it's the Apple key - plus only one other key for the basics.

Ctrl + c = Copy
Ctrl + v = Paste
Ctrl + a = Select All
Ctrl + n = New (window or page or document; depending on program)
Ctrl + z = Undo (the best one ever)

Ctrl + b = bold
Ctrl + i = italics

Try them out! You'll find it's much faster and easier than drop down menus and you'll likely find that shortcut listed right next to the command IN the drop down menu!

Zoom!

I've not had the problem on any of the other forums I'm a member of, only this one.

As I said, I can't replicate it, so it's not a board setting. (Do you other forums use vBulletin, and is the most up to date version?)

I can only see one thing in IE7 (I use firefox myself) - if I have it set to WYSIWYG I can highlight, but there's no 'copy' option when I right click. There is, however, a 'paste' option.

Is the text box write, or a greysih blue colour? If the latter, look to the corner, for the 2 'A's (there's a little one over a big one) - click it, so the text box goes white. Then try again, and see if anything is different?

Yes I'm a member of other vBulletin boards, some the most recent version, others slightly older, but all of them have both the copy and paste functions.

Nope the text box is always white for me.

Not sure what the problem is but now I know the keyboard shortcuts I'll just use them instead. Thanks for your help.

Then I'm afraid I'm totally confused.. sorry!

I have a paste option, but not a copy option. I've just always used the keyboard shortcuts, though. And I've always used the WYSIWUG one, though I never knew what it stood for. The white one bugs me.
