I have been meaning to mention this all week. Amazon have loads of books for as little £1. I went through the £1 list and picked fifteen, several of which were on my wish list, would you believe, and got free postage to boot.Tell a lie two of the books were slightly more than a £1, so I think, after one 'out of stock' from Amazon, I have ended up with 14 books for £15.50! Some of them hardback too.
The first one arrived this morning, Poetry Please, Anthology of Poems (BBC).
Worth a look. That was just the £1 list. Others were priced at £3 or less, so heaps to choose from.I could easily have bought another fifteen!
I will list them when they arrive.

I just had a look and it looks good. Not much left in the £1 section though but plenty at £3. I'll have a proper look later and hopefully pick up some bargains.
Thanks PP

I also came across this today - books for a penny (Plus p&p)
Now I know nothing about the site so please don't take this as a recommendation but thought I may as well share just in case.
Has anyone used this site?

I had a good look at the booklovers site and it's a very interesting place. I have ordered one of the books for a penny, postage was about £2.20. I tried to order two books, but the site wouldn't let me order more than one, not sure why. Tried every which way but gave up in the end. I'll let you know about service when the book arrives.

I looked at this site and it seemed really good with a selection of books at 1p. I started to order one or two and then bottled out in case I was sending my credit card details to some 'dodgy' place. Has anyone successfully ordered stuff from Booklovers.co.uk?

Yes, I did Butterfly, and it is run by a very nice gentleman. I was very happy with my purchase.:D

With the Amazon Marketplace sellers, you have to pay a set amount of delivery, which is why many of the books are listed so cheaply. And the delivery charge is per book, rather than per order - there is no free delivery option when you're buying many books. You also can't use gift vouchers when you buy from them and there is no "quality control" as it's down to the integrity of the individual seller. If you DO decide to buy from Marketplace, check the ratings of the seller - the higher the percentage, the better chance you'll get a good service. Also read the comments left by other buyers - it always pays to do some checking before buying.

Err, only about 20,000 people... and I have yet to steal a card number and make off on holiday...
I'm David - I own BookLovers.co.uk and www.SecondHand-BookShop.co.uk (http://www.SecondHand-BookShop.co.uk).
You'll find, in a short time, that you can get 5 books for £10.00 delivered in the UK on the second of those sites.
Of course, excuse me if it's blatant bad form to say stuff like this - just spotted some incoming traffic from this forum and thought I'd take a look.
If anyone has specific requests (i.e. reading circle needing 5 copies of a certain book) then I may be able to help off-site for instance...
Cheers,
Badger (aka David Gower-Spence...)

You might run into trouble trying to order from that page - a stupid idea by me means that this is static and the "buy" button is linked to live data.
I'll be having a selection of 1p books (and not just cheap old paperbacks either!) as I am stock taking 20 shelves a week out of a 1000 to clear the way for new stock.
Any problems or comments email me directly - dgs@booklovers.co.uk and I'll try and help. I deal in books... and people!
Cheers,
Badger.

I'm sure you understand people being cautious of a site that they haven't come across before. :)
I also hope you're appreciating the free advertising from here. ;)

Michelle,
Of course I do - half expected to get banned for my first post!
Tried to contact you about some cross promotion actually - happy to offer a "deal" to any of your members. I take in around 1000 books a week. Most are unsuitable for me, but many are perfectly sound common 'n garden reading books that I would be happy to group by author, say, and offer to your members.
Perhaps you could contact me to see if there's a "mutual benefit" to be had here?
Cheers,
David.

Hi David.. I have had to remove posts recently that have been blatent self promotion, but obviously a book store is of benefit to our members.. plus you were responding to some queries on here. I'm not a complete ogre! ;)
I'll be quite happy to chat to you, but right now I must get back to sorting out a work issue. :( Will be in touch soon.

The market sellers do have books for a penny, and yes the postage is per book. Even if you buy more than one book from the same seller.
I still think my original 16 books (or whatever) for £1 each and free postage was a great bargain.:)

Michelle,
Can't find your email address, wanted to offer "something" to your forum users. I'm clearing stock to make way for new arrivals and offering a selection of books (around 60-90 each week) free - you pay the normal P&P to cover my time picking and packing mind.
I won't post the link here obviously, but if you wanted to let your users get a looksee of the list it comes out weekly by email.
Seasons greetings...
Badger.

David has been sending me the lists and there are one or two that I have been tempted to get. I would advise folk to subscribe to the emails. You never know...;)

Have I? Then you'll be aware that I've had a devil of a time getting the damned thing working as it should.
It is, now, fixed. Two emails, weekly during normal term time, one of which offers the books free if you pay the P&P and the other offers books that are going into the shop at "below internet" prices... both offer good value of course. :irked:

Amazon Marketplace sellers are really Postage dealers rather than Book dealers. A friend of mine sells many thousands of books a year on Amazon and knows nothing about books. He buys them for 50p each off book remainder companies and sells them for as low as 1p each. He makes his profit from the Amazon standard postage charge.

Useful if you are after only one book and don't mind the postage.
