It was difficult to whittle it down this month, but whittle it down I had to do - it's down to three books, each of which were seconded, and they all look very interesting and very different!

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell: Set between the 1930s,and the present, Maggie O'Farrell's new novel is the story of Esme, a woman edited out of her family's history, and of the secrets that come to light when, sixty years later, she is released from care, and a young woman, Iris, discovers the great aunt she never knew she had. The mystery that unfolds is the heartbreaking tale of two sisters in colonial India and 1930s Edinburgh - of the loneliness that binds them together and the rivalries that drive them apart, and lead one of them to a shocking betrayal - but above all it is the story of Esme, a fiercely intelligent, unconventional young woman, and of the terrible price she is made to pay for her family's unhappiness. The Sackett Brand by Louis L'Amour: his is the story of a man who loses his wife to an evil man, this evil man decides to kill our hero as well. Little does he know that the "Sackett Brand" will bring his kinfolk from all over to help him out.Out of the Ashes by Michael Morpurgo: This story is not a story at all. It all happened. On New Year's Day Becky Morley begins to write her diary. By March, her world has changed for ever. Foot and mouth disease breaks out on a pig farm hundreds of miles from the Morley's Devon home, but soon the nightmare is a few fields away. Local sheep are infected and every animal is destroyed. Will the Morley's flock be next? Will their pedigree diary herd, the sows with their piglets, and Little Josh, Becky's hand-reared lamb, survive? Or will they be slaughtered too? The waiting and hoping is the most agonizing experience of Becky's life... The poll will close on the afternoon of Sunday 22nd April, in order to give people time to get hold of the chosen book in time to start on 1st May.

Just wanted to say that although I have voted for The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, I think the other books sound interesting. They will all be on by wish list. :D

You would not be amiss reading the entire Sackett series. They flow into each other, or can be read independently, all great books. :smile2:
