View Full Version : What films make you cry?

For me there are two that i can think of...

Titanic will do it for me everytime - the part where the ship is sinking and the orchester are playing on the deck and you see the couple laying in bed and the plates crashing down. I cry every single time

And the other is The Crow, I always have a sniff watching this film....

Shadowlands - with Anthony Hopkins playing C.S.Lewis - I saw this originally in the West End several years ago and I came out with panda eyes - could not stop crying it was so sad when his wife died....

I'm a big softy and cry at the slightest thing but some films that made me cry are:
Bambi (yes I know!)
Charlotte's Web
Black Beauty
Fluke (seems to be a theme running here...lol)
Ghost
Love Story
Top Gun (when Goose dies)

There's probably more but they were the first ones that sprang to mind.

that brings a tear to my eye:friends0:

a another one I would be is "P.S.I Love you" that made me cry and send a lump to my throat.

It is very sad for a kids film

I don't know what film I've cried at even though I probably have done.

I know I cried a bit at the end of the last series of Doctor Who (when Rose leaves)

I'm going to have to choose Bambi as well.
Also, the end of All Dogs Go To Heaven usually brings a tear to my eye.

Two stand out:
Finding Neverland and Bridge to Terabithia.

Both made me cry and cry and cry. My napkins secured for buttery-popcorn-fingers were all used up, tears into my beard, sobbing-aching-racking-sniffling-my-god-this-feels-good crying. As a rather reserved private individual, I've never embraced a good crying jag until recently: it's great.

I even blogged on the experiences, while I'd not recommend dragging anyone through one of my tedious blogs - in all fairness to this thread, I'll post the links.

Some of the movies that have made me cry the most (by this I mean long after after the credits have rolled, and maybe into the next week..) are as follows:
Titanic
Legend of the Fall
Finding Nemo
Star Wars Episode III
Life is Beautiful
..I'm sure there are loads more, but they are the ones that really stand out, they really made my heart ache!

There are not any films that make me cry anymore, but over the years I've had a handful. When I was six, certain parts of Lion King 2 made me cry.I nearly cried at Ice Age 1 when it first came out because the ending was sad. Other than a few others, there are not many that made me cry.

I'm known to cry if a film has a sad ending and even a happy one!! I love a good cry at a film. The ones that never fail are:

Beaches
City of Angels
Bicentennial Man (I know, I'm sad!!)
Ghost
Return of the King
Pay It Forward
The Pusuit of Happyness (The end had me blubbing like a great big baby!)

The opening credits and music for any Lassie movie. So I gave up and don't watch.

This afternoon Memoirs of a Geisha was on, and while I have the book, I've not read it yet...it's in the never ending stack, and I only was able to see the last, I suppose one-third of it, but at the last scene, I won't give it away, I had tears running down my cheeks.
Great movie. Beautiful and lush.

But that is rare for me.

I don't cry that easily either, but 'The Japanese Story', a lesser known Australian movie, starring Toni Collette and Gotaro Tsunashima, had me a tearful mess.

'Shadowlands', the biographgy of C.S.Lewis, was another one and also 'V for Vendetta' when Natalie Portman was being tortured.

In addition to some of the movies mentioned above, I always cry at the end of Hair. I bawled at a mini-series remake of On The Beach. The Notebook leaves me blubbering for ages after the movie ends, and nothing beats Beaches for a good cry! I'm certain I've cried during at least two of the Lord Of The Rings movies.

I cry during pretty much anything that has a remotely sad part, or a very happy ending

Oh, I cry so easily at films!

Was reminded of one last night, when I caught the last 5 mins of Lost In Translation... and STILL ended up crying! I find the ending very moving.

Beaches is a classic weep fest and I now refuse to watch Steel Magnolias because it embarrasses me how I cry everytime I've seen!

But my ultimate sob-fest can be named in just two letters...

E.T.

"I'll be riiiight heeeere"

Beauty and the Beast. Yes, I KNOW he lives but I still cry, every time. I cry at Balto too.

I cry at Miss Potter

End of the Fellowship of Rings (well I used to)

In fact, my friend says I cry at most movies. Either because its sad, or because it's happy or making me laugh too much. :/

And of course Brokeback Mountain. I cried in the cinema, on the way back, when I got home and when I woke up in the morning. I tend to over react to movies sometimes.

Oh yes. That's a movie that really stays with you isn't it? After I saw it for the first time, I watched it again two days later, and cried heaps both times.

It was full blown crying for me :weeping: (what a baby)! I know its just a story but I'd love to have someone like Noah .

I cried when reading the book as well. I've been trying to persuade the BF to watch the DVD with me but with a smile, he said he's not keen in watching Rachel McAdams making out with her real life BF. But I think its more like he's not interested in seeing me in a crying fit .

Besides Disney-movies?
Little Women (the sprinkling of the petal-bit does me in everytime!)
Moulin Rouge
Finnish movie Onnen varjot (Shades of happiness, it's about a couple that can't have children, then finally, at their last attempt, she gets pregnant, only to have a miscarriage.)

to name a few. Basically anything that's sad or emotional. I cry easily. I even cry watching Extreme MakeOver Home Edition. And if I see someone else crying, you better hand over the Kleenex straight away.

Oh my, the list is endless. Anything with an animal in it that gets hurt/dies/isn't loved anymore will pretty much guarentee tears.

Ghost - I just can't watch anymore it really really upsets me.
City of Angels - why would anyone make a film THAT sad?
Fluke - it's NOT a kids film, stop putting it on in the afternoon!
Top Gun/E.R. - The loss of Goose/Dr Greene hit me badly
any RSPCA/Dogs Trust advert on TV - yes I will take them all home if left unsupervised.

I was recently vey proud of myself watching I Am Legend. Through much deep breathing and looking away I managed not to cry at 'the dog bit'

You think you've got it under control, all the way through the movie, even when they meet again at the very end, and then, the last bit, when he realises why she hasn't been up from the sofa, that it was her who got the painting... I read Tuesdays with Maurey ages ago & it was a brilliant book!
I recently watched the The Bucket List - on a flight from London to Toronto & sobbed at the end! I don't know anyone else who has seen the movie The Cure - but boy did it make me cry!

"Dexter, age 11, who has AIDS, and his next door neighbor Eric, a little older and much bigger, become best friends. Eric also becomes closer to Dexter's mother than to his own, who is neglectful and bigoted and violently forbids their friendship upon learning of it. When they read that a doctor in distant New Orleans claims to have found a cure for AIDS, the boys leave home on their own, planning to float down the Mississippi river and find him."
