I read some John Saul books in my teens, but haven't really looked out for them since. I saw this one in a charity shop however, and decided to give it a try.
It was originally published as a serial novel, following on the sucess of Stephen Kings The Green Mile. However, rather than a novel in 6 parts, this is 5 short stories, based in one town, with part 6 bringing it together, and finishing the tale.
It has a promising start, and the first story is quite creepy. After that, they do seem to go downhill a little. The storyline is to do with the destruction of the old asylum, so you can imagine the way the storylines go.
The ending was good, although it has a slightly rushed feel to it. Or maybe that was because I was sitting up late trying to finish it?!
If you like horror, it's a pretty enjoyable tale.
