I just recently signed up for Early Reviewers (what took me so long??) and I found out I'm getting a book, and it's only my first time. The book I'm getting is bizarre: Seven Days to Sex Appeal: How to Be Sexier Without Surgery, Weight Loss, or Cleavage by Eva Margolies and Stan Jones. I requested it on a whim...how weird is my library that I actually won that??

I've found it hard going but have also been busy - I think the writing is a bit awkward. I did google a few of the names in the book and found out some background stuff which has made it more interesting for me.

Maureen - it's a geeky systems thing for me about organisation and control - in fact I am a self confessed control freak and 'Librarything' fulfuls something in me!!
Absolutley how I feel :friends0:
I am totally addicted!! Been spending every spare minute creating my library - still more to add and I need to figure out tags but LOVE this site! I used amazon for listing & rating but this is so much better.
I have invited a few names I recognise to be friends so you may get a request. If not please add me - Esiotrot (spelt correctly this time LOL!)

I added the visitor map and then took it off again because no one ever visited and I felt silly
TheBookImp posted in someone else's comments a couple of links to FYI groups on LibraryThing (FYI (http://www.librarything.com/groups/fyi), GreyHead's FAQ (http://www.librarything.com/groups/greyheadsfrequentlya)). Maybe if you join you can find out how to post pics. I know I'm certainly going to do it! Thanks for bringing it to our attention H&D.
I'm even more interested in her Wiki (http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/User:TheBookImp) page. I want those bars to keep track of my challenges!

I like that Michelle. I would like to do that - is it easy?
If you click on the local tab and click on the star by your favourite bookshops and libraries, they show up on your profile too :smile2:
Michelle
3rd April 2008, 10:04
Yep, pretty easy.
~ to underline, simply put <u>title</u>
~ to make something bold, use <b>text</b>
~ to make something italic, <i>text</i>
To link to an image, you need..
<img src="http://{url of image}" border="0" alt="" />
If you get stuck, tell me exactly what you want to do/write, and I'll try to sort it out. :)
Michelle
3rd April 2008, 10:07
I've also added a new field to the profiles on here, so members can add their LT names. At the moment, it shows up under your username (along with Location etc), but if people would rather it not be there, let me know, and I can change it. (I'll go with the majority on that one.)

Yes, as of now that's how it's set up. LT seems popular, so I thought it would be better in the side bit. All can be tweaked.. I just need to know what the consensus is, plus the time to do it. :)

Has anyone noticed that the covers of their books in LibraryThing inexplicably change? I've noticed it a few times but wasn't sure if it was just me. But I know that I had the correct cover for Northanger Abbey there, and now there's no cover at all? Does anyone know how this happens? Maybe I'll check out their FAQ groups.

This is a post I found among the ER threads
I got Being Emily (http://www.librarything.com/work/4497872) which makes three in a row, although I haven't got my Feb one yet. Very excited as I have loved both of Donovan's other books. Let's hope I remember the minimum review length is 25 words and don't heave out 250 again!
25 words!!! Can this be true?
Off to try and investigate...
Michelle
12th April 2008, 12:43
Yep, there has been some discussion on LT - all they ask is that you have a minimum of 25 words. Some have misread, and have done 250.
happyanddandy
12th April 2008, 12:48

My reviews vary in length, but the one I wrote for ER was really long, probably around 220 words. But I don't think it made any difference. I think it was the fact that I wrote a review for it.
Hooray! Australia is finally part of Early Reviewers. There is one book to 'choose' from and it's the 4th in a series so I won't attempt getting it, but it's nice to know we're part of it now. Hopefully more publishers will get on board in future :D

I think it must just be if you want to keep track of someone's library but don't necessarily want to befriend them to do so.
Actually, I just checked my profile and I have, for example, Nici76 on both lists, so I'm not sure what the deal is!

Ooh, this looks quite good, i've been using http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/ to sort of keep track of my reading and its also pretty useful for getting reccomendations. Guess i'll see what this site has to offer as well!

Hello all,
How long does it normally take books to come through?

I've only had one book Kate. The trouble is that there are never that many UK books, plus SO many request them!
You're better off being a reviewer here, anyway! ;)

There are only ever 1 or 2 available to Australia, and sometimes none from what I've seen. I've only tried once to get a book and wasn't successful.

Do any of you have to ensure that the book shown in your librarything (shelfari or goodreads) catalogue has to have the same cover as the book you actually own? Or is that just me?
Michelle
4th January 2009, 13:48
Yep, it has to be the right one! :D

Me too, I get quite upset if they don't have quite the right cover

Same here... It just doesnt feel right if it's another cover, as if it were another book *laughs*

I've had to upload them sometimes, but it certainly is nice to see the library as you own it. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

On LibraryThing, I always make sure that the cover in my collection is the cover that I have. I don't mind so much on GoodReads though.

Oh no, I definately need to make sure that all of the covers match what they were when I read the book! I have a question about librarything - I don't see anywhere where it specifies whether the lifetime membership price you pay is an one-off or an anual thing. Anyone know?

Actually it's weird how much the cover can stick with you overtime... I've been looking for books I read when I was a kid on goodreads (trying to remember all my old favorites) and eventhough I've lost/ given/ sold them long ago I recognised most of the covers (or didnt and felt the ones I found weren't 'right')

As there's a yearly membership and a lifetime one, I assume that the latter is a one off payment. They suggest $10 for yearly and $25 for lifetime, so no one is going to pay the higher amount if it's annual. :)

I paid $25 for a lifetime membership, and I'm really glad I did!
And, yes, I always make sure that my covers match the edition I actually have.

It's the same with me. I also try to find the real covers I have at home at library thing

I spend ages when I'm adding books to my library thing making sure the book covers match the actual book I read. Most of them in my library do, but there is the odd one which I had to pick the cover closest to mine... doesnt feel right! :smile2:

If I can't find the right cover I usually scan the one I have and then up load it.

oooh, I wish I could do that! There have been a couple that I have had to "settle for the closest" & 1 where there isn't a cover to be found, so that ability would come in so handy!

You could always take a photo with camera/phone too and upload that, although the results may be better sometimes than others. It always helps if you are handy with a paint package like paint shop pro to get it looking just right - and that can come in handy with scanning too.
