We're a bit late getting this up and running, so although it should really be a themed month, I think we'll stick with a general one.

So.. nominations?

I'd like to nominate About the Author by John Colapinto:
One of the hottest books of 2001- A thriller of plagarism and murder as well as a wickedly funny satire on New York literary world. Cal Cunningham dreams of writing an autobiographical novel that will help him escape from his life as a penniless bookstore stockboy in upper Manhattan. Yet, after two years of living together, it is Stewart, Cal's studious flatmate who has finished writing a page-turning novel - based on Cal's life. When a timely, fatal bicycle accident removes Stewart from the scene, Cal appropriates the manuscript as his own and places it in the hands of the legendarily ferocious literary agent Blackie Yeager. Soon Cal realises his most outlandish fantasies of literary success. That is, until he discovers that someone knows his secret. For Cal, this means plotting not just his second novel, but also his first murder.

I just think it'd be fun to read a book about writing a book - LOL! :readingtwo:

As it's December, how about Dicken's A Christmas Carol? :)

Excellent idea!

We need to start a vote soon, so are there any other nominations?

I was going to nominate The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder, because a) I'm reading it at the moment and b) it's about Christmas (obviously!), but I've just realised that it's actually a children's book!

Not that it matters to me, but I guess people will want something more substantial to read.

I have a 2nd nomination - The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell
Derfel, once a captain in Arthur's warband, recalls the days of Guinevere, Lancelot, Merlin and Bishop Sansum. But, above all, it tells the story of Arthur, the only man who can hold Uther's throne for its infant heir, and unite Britain's squabbling kingdoms against the enemy.

I just thought with it having "winter" in the title & all, it might fit in a bit better with some of the other nominations. :smile2:

My concern about this one (if I'm thinking of the right book) is it's quite chunky, and I don't think that people will have much time during December. It might be a good choice for Jan or Feb though! :snowballfight:

Ooh, I thought of another, slimmer one - it's actually a children's book, but how about The Snow Spider by Jenny Nimmo?
On his ninth birthday, Gwyn is given a brooch and told to cast it into the wind. Later he discovers the wind has sent something back: The snow spider. So begins Gwyn's journey as a magician. Against the shimmering backdrop of a magical domed city, Gwyn has to battle evil and heal a fractured family. A spine-tingling trilogy of stories, full of magic and power.

Actually, I think I might read this one very soon anyway. I read it when I was a kid & loved it - it'll be interesting to revisit it after all this time!

I like the sound of that...:D

Any more nominations? Polling will start very soon, so if you have something you'd like to see as the reading circle choice, let us know!

I'm afraid I'm going to have to do it now, as we've normally decided by now! This month is just whizzing by!
