Hello Folks

Although we had many nominations for this 'special edition' reading circle I had to narrow it down to five for a vote. Three nominations received a second so were automatically considered and I randomy picked two more.

This reading circle will not be limited to a month due to the length of some of the books and it will be running alongside the usual monthly reading circle choice.

So without further-a-do here are your nominations.

Misery
Mouth-to-mouth, the woman had forced him back to life, pumping great sickly-sweet gusts of bad breath into him. Sickly-sweet, she smiled down at him, pushing the painkillers into his dry mouth with her big, work-coarsened fingers. Coyly, smiling, she pillow-plumped and nursery-talked and made sure he finished up every last little scrap.
He was a writer. She was his number one fan. She'd pulled him out of the car-wreck, brought him home, splinted and set his mangled legs. All he had to do in return was to write a very special book, just for her, all about her favourite character from his novels. One he's killed off and now had to bring back to life.
Because if he didn't, if he was bad and didn't do what nurse told him, she would be cross - very cross - and do things that would make him scream and scream...

The Green Mile
Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, home to the Depression-worn men of E Block. Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk the Green Mile, keeping a date with "Old Sparky," Cold Mountain's electric chair.
Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working the Mile. But he's never seen anyone like John Coffey, a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. In this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about Coffey, a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs...and yours.

The Shining
Terrible events occur at the isolated Overlook Hotel. It's a place where the guests are deceased but not necessarily departed, high in the wintry Rocky Mountains in the off season. A family checks in so the father can write, and terror lurks behind every door. Their son, who has psychic powers but does not know he has them and does not know how to use them, struggles to hold his own against the forces of evil that are driving his father insane.

Rose Madder
After 14 years of being beaten, Rose Daniels wakes up one morning and leaves her husband -- but she keeps looking over her shoulder, because Norman has the instincts of a predator. And what is the strange work of art that has Rose in a kind of spell? In this brilliant dark-hued fable of the gender wars, Stephen King has fashioned yet another suspense thriller to keep readers right on the edge.

The Dead Zone
John Smith awakes from a coma to find his life in ruins. He also finds that he can see the future -- a power he doesn`t want but can`t escape. He is branded a freak, and his warnings of danger are seen as ravings ... and when he shakes a psychopathic politician`s hand he foresees unimaginable horror.

So.... the choice is yours :D

Tough choice! I've read all but two of them before, so I decided to pick from one of those... Either way, these are all excellent choices!

I own all of them, have read each at least 3/4 times and am currently avoiding re-reads, but I'll be interested to see your thoughts and will take part from memory. However, I'm happy to lend my copy of the winner to someone if they're very nice to me :D

I'm sure you'll be able to take part in the discussion Jo, even if you're not actively reading it at the time. :)

I have voted for the one I have on my shelf, but I will read whatever wins. I don’t normally read SK but I am quite looking forward to this.:hide:

I chose 'The Dead Zone' because it is my fav and the added bonus that I actually know where it is in my house!

But I will read any of them, should be good to discuss...

I've only read one Stephen King before (The Green Mile), so I don't mind who wins the vote.

I've just started The Shining, so even if it doesn't win, I'd be happy to discuss it with anyone interested. :)

Does anyone else wish to vote?

I voted for Misery as I have it on my shelf already but I would also love to read the Shining. I don't own that one though, very typical of me :D. If it wins I will track down a copy at the library.

Any more for any more??

I got my copy of The Shining from Amazon, for £3.99.
From the site:
In the exciting build-up to publication of Stephen King's new mainstream novel, LISEY'S STORY, Hodder are launching their King Classics Campaign -- starting with 6 of the most popular titles, CARRIE, THE SHINING, BAG OF BONES, CHRISTINE, THE STAND, MISERY. These titles will be published for the first time in B-format paperback, in a stunning new livery.

Oh, I've got a copy of The Shining. In fact I bought it today - it was on offer. I might read that then for the SK Reading Circle.

Oh they look really good. They would do this when I'm half way through collecting them in the Nel covers. Grrr

I've only ever read Misery, so this will be a good reason to try something else.

I'm hoping The Shining stays ahead with this one, as I'm just about to start it and I haven't got any of the others.
