This thread is to nominate a Stephen King book you would like to read as a reading circle book. As these books can be quite lengthy, this reading circle will run alongside the monthly reading circle, giving a longer time frame to read.

As it was my idea I might as well start this one off. I have a wide collection but I wouldn't mind reading Misery

Blog from back of book
Mouth-to-mouth, the woman had forced him back to life, pumping great sickly-sweet gusts of bad breath into him. Sickly-sweet, she smiled down at him, pushing the painkillers into his dry mouth with her big, work-coarsened fingers. Coyly, smiling, she pillow-plumped and nursery-talked and made sure he finished up every last little scrap.
He was a writer. She was his number one fan. She'd pulled him out of the car-wreck, brought him home, splinted and set his mangled legs. All he had to do in return was to write a very special book, just for her, all about her favourite character from his novels. One he's killed off and now had to bring back to life.
Because if he didn't, if he was bad and didn't do what nurse told him, she would be cross - very cross - and do things that would make him scream and scream...

I'm going to nominate The Shining.. a 'classic' in the world of horror, and 1 I'd happily re-read.
Terrible events occur at the isolated Overlook Hotel. It's a place where the guests are deceased but not necessarily departed, high in the wintry Rocky Mountains in the off season. A family checks in so the father can write, and terror lurks behind every door. Their son, who has psychic powers but does not know he has them and does not know how to use them, struggles to hold his own against the forces of evil that are driving his father insane.

I remember reading this when I was about 13 and it was fantastic. Happy to re-read this one too.... this is going to be a hard vote :D

i'd love to nominate The Stand, but at over 1000 pages, I doubt many folks would be willing to lug it around with them to read in their spare time, no matter how much it'd be worth it!

So, instead, I'll nominate The Dark Half:
For years, Thad Beaumont has been writing books under the pseudonym George Stark. When a journalist threatens to expose Beaumont's pen name, the author decides to go public first, killing off his pseudonym. Stark isn't content to be dispatched that easily, though. Beaumont's alter ego comes to life and begins to stalk those responsible for his demise. The police suspect Beaumont is responsible for these violent crimes.

We could end up with a bit of a problem voting with everyone going for their own favourite - LOL!

Well for something that often provokes a mixed reaction I will go for Rose Madder.

Synopsis

After 14 years of being beaten, Rose Daniels wakes up one morning and leaves her husband -- but she keeps looking over her shoulder, because Norman has the instincts of a predator. And what is the strange work of art that has Rose in a kind of spell? In this brilliant dark-hued fable of the gender wars, Stephen King has fashioned yet another suspense thriller to keep readers right on the edge.

Well, we have a nice array here already but would anyone else like to nominate?? Or perhaps you would like to second a nomination to ensure it goes to the vote???

Well, I've ordered The Shining, so I'll definitely be reading it. Can I second my own nomination?!

I love Rose Madder and nearly seconded that, but as it's not that long since I read it, (sorry dididave!) I will second The Shining, as it's well overdue for a re-read.

Would anybody else like to add to this before I set up a vote??

We have seven nominations which is a bit too many to vote on, so seconded books will definately go through.

So far we have:

Misery - Seconded
The Green Mile - Seconded
The Shining - Seconded
The Dark Half
Rose Madder
The Dead Zone
Cell

I am not normally a Stephen King fan. I read the Shining years ago and it scared me so much I never read another King.:hide:

Anyway I do have Misery on my shelf so I would like to second it.

I will of course read any other one that is picked. (Except the Shining.)
