These are similar to 'watched topics' on the phpBB board. From the FAQ..
If you post a new thread, or reply to an existing thread, you can choose to be notified by email when someone else replies to that thread. You can also choose to receive email notifications of new posts in a thread without posting in that thread, by clicking the 'Subscribe to this thread' link displayed in the thread page.
If you choose to stop receiving email notifications from a thread, you can turn off the option by either editing your post, or by unsubscribing from the thread here (http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/forum/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription).
Only registered users may receive email notification, and they can set whether they want to receive email notification by default by editing their options (http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions).
Email notification is also referred to as 'Thread Subscription'.

During the transfer, all members had their settings set to 'Subscribe without notification' (done automatically, not be us) - for new registrations, it's turned off.

I therefore suggest you go into your User CP, and click on Options. In the middle box is a setting 'Default Thread Subscription Mode' and choose your option.

Personally, I would suggest 'Do not subscribe', and then subscribe individually to threads that interest you.

To do that, at the top of each thread, you will see 'Thread Tools'. Amongst other things, you can subscribe to that thread.

Any confusion, let me know. :)

Having looked a few profiles today, I've seen people with this still set to 'Subscribe without notification'. This means that they will build up within your CP, therefore using up disc space etc.

Can I please ask you all to pop to your CP, and change this option.

When you post to a thread, it will automatically subscribe you to that thread. You can ALSO subscribe to a thread without posting.

Go to thread tools>pull down and then subscribe to that thread.

You can also subscribe to a forum using the Forum Tools using the same method (or mark a forum read that way). Liz
