One snowy night a young girl makes a wish, the wish comes true, her mother is killed on a icy road.Years later the young girl, moves from New Jersey to Florida, and one day as she stands by a window she is struck by lightning, she be-friends someone who was also struck by lightning but, his, Lazarus Jones, effects are the exact opposite of hers, he can eat cold food and it will turn warm while he eats it, his breath can boil cold water. They begin a love affair these two people touched by Ice and fire.
This is not a book to read to cheer you up! I found it to be quite depressive at time but, still quite an interesting read. I was expecting something a bit different so not sure if that added to my disappointment. That said this is a haunting novel that can make you think and was at times quite engrossing. It was very cleverly written and definitely something to read if your looking for something different.

I've just got this one from the library. I'm looking forward to reading it as I have enjoyed Alice Hoffman's books in the past.

It sounds interesting - pity you found it a bit disappointing - it's such a shame when that happens.

I've read Practical Magic and the River King, but they're not really my cup of tea. They are written beautifully, but I find the pace of them is so slow I get bored (I have a fairly short attention span!).

Hmm doesn't sound as exciting as I thought it would be, but will still give it a go

Of the two, I preferred Practical Magic. It was very interesting to see the differences between the book and the film.

I've only just finished this book coincidentally (I didn't hear of it from here) but I rather liked it. Sometimes it seemed rather cliched teenage angst like, but I found it intriguing and very well told in some places.

I enjoyed this one too, I love the way Alice Hoffman writes though. I've read other books of hers and although some are a bit teen angsty I like her descriptive writing abilities. Recommended if you like the author to paint a pictur with words :)

Haven't read that one, but I recently read 'Blue Diary' and started it as a bookring on Bookcrossing as I enjoyed it so much.
I have Seventh Heaven on my shelf to read ...anyone read that one!
