  1. We had to read literature. It was a part of the program in Slovenian classes. We went through all the periods in the history of literature; starting reading with for example Sophocles (Antigone), Middle Ages, Protestant Reformation, baroque, etc.. We stopped at each period and put out main subjects, authors, thoughts, impacts... We read 3 books per year, each time carefully chosen by our teacher, who wanted our lives to become miserable (and from the period we were discussing it). We were reading classics, but not World's famous must-reads, but more Slovenian literature, authors who were mostly writing about their pathetic rustic lives... I hated it! At the end of our secondary school we had our final exam (so called Matura exam), where we had a list of all the periods and a list of authours. 3 randomly selected were yours and you had to discuss it with the board of examiners. I have pushed my Slovenian classes deeply into my subconsciousness. As far as I remember, we read: -Sophocles (Antigone) -Shakespeare (Hamlet) -Gustave Flaubert (Madame Bovary) -Dostoyevsky (Crime and punishment) I would recommend one book from the list of Slovenian authors, which I really really enjoyed: Alamut by Vladimir Bartol.
  2. I was reading Shana Galen's book until 2 this morning. I needed a romance shot! Can't help myself
  3. It's hard for me to go to the bookshop... I managed once to leave without a purchase. I was so proud. Next day, I received two e-newsletters from online bookshops and ordered more than 10 books.
  4. Uhh, my organized book shelves... or not-organized. I have books on two locations: in my flat and at my parents' house. At home: I have around 4 large bookshelves with "everything" or, as I named it "Organized chaos" (recipe books, novels, must read books before I die, phylosophy, sociology, fiction, non-fiction, and also 2 bookshelves of ex-Yugoslavia and Russian books written in Cyrillic alphabet). My flat: Organized by: - travel guides, - vocabularies, lexicon etc. - books in English, - books in Spanish, - books in Russian, - books in Slovenian, - my boyfriend's books (engineering,...) - management, business, HR, etc. - sociology and religion, - books, waiting for me to read them, - and of course "organized chaos". We are seriously thinking of buying Kindle as I lately spend around 200 Euros for books/month. And of course, my boyfriend understands, that library is not an option
  5. Thank you all for a nice welcome @Roland: If you come to Slovenia, I'll be glad to take you to Lake Bled and other sightseeings in Ljubljana! Any suggestion, where should I start reading this forum? From A to Z? From the latest on,...? Opposite? Thank God I don't have so much work now,...I'll be reading some interesting topic tomorrow at work
  6. My favourite books... hmm... There are three groups of books, which I like (or have to like) First: I studied phylosophy and sociology and therefore in five years of my study I really read a lot of books from those fields. And I still do. (there is still a couple of exams...) my-can't-stand-Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, my dearest Marx, Schelling, Schiler, etc Secound: I work in marketing department in combination to HR, writing articles about HR, seeking employment and recruiting and It's necessarily to read articles, magazines and books from this field. Third (my favourite): My spare time. I read a lot of books in past years,..all kinds,... lately I like historical romance. Years ago, I was convinced that romance and "chick lit" is not for me, but lately I have my own theraphy after long working days - with books. It was just one paperback Julie Garwood romance which I grabed in the store; in a week, I read all of them (translated to Slovenian). Then I found out, that there is not many books translated and now I read them in English. Everything.
  7. I suppose I should introduce myself Maybe starting with: Maja, 26years, Slovenia, LOVE BOOKS
