  2. Yes, I did get it, but I've been at work, then doing all that 'family stuff' since being home.. please bear with me, and I'll get to it! :)

  3. Hi Michelle

I've sent a PM, but not sure if you've got it. Can I be a pain and ask for a username change. While I love Ian Rankin and John Rebus, I feel I need to change my username...I'm going to be here for a while and I want to be happy with my username. Please can you change it to "Epo". Pretty please.

    Oh, and, erm...how are you?

  4. Anything by Roal Dahl or Enid Blyton. My absolute favourite was "The Giraffe, The Pelly & Me". I must have borrowed it from the library 30 times...at least (seriously). My eldest son is now two and a half, and it was a great moment for me to read it to him for the first time. Honorable mentions to; Michael Hardcastle's football books (the inspiration for my first football novel...in the works), the Asterix "graphic novels", The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. I also remember with fondness the books that helped me learn to read...Roger Red Hat, Billy Blue Hat et al by Sheila K. McCullogh
  5. It's probably blindingly obvious who I am a big fan of from my username, but I will state it for the record anyway. I heart John Rebus.

Hi there. Just wantes to say that if you enjoyed the Rebus novels, you might like Stuart Macbride's books - crime fiction set in Aberdeen - very gritty with a dark sense of humour in the undercurrent. Welcome to the forum! :)

  7. I like to listen to a couple of Talksport shows (Bow Time with Ian Wright and Adrian Durham, Call Collymore after saturdays matches), however it's usually BBC Radio 1 that floats my boat.
  8. Some time ago, back in September, I got quite ill after eating an ASDA ready meal. After recovering, the thought of frozen ready meals made me feel sick. I just can't think about them, let alone heat one up. Since then, I have taken the step from purchasing convenience foods from the local Sainsbury's (the mark up on simple items there is incredible...my bank balance is a lot healthier now). I've found that I have quite a gift for cooking and have cooked some incredible meals recently (or so my wife says anyway). I've found that if we plan the meals for a week, I can source ingredients cheaper. Last night I had a lovely piece of belly pork which I seasoned and cooked with parsnips, carrots and onions, making a beautiful gravy. Anyway, the point of this post is, does anyone have any recipes for main meals that I could try out that will test my culinary skills, but also be within my limited remit?

    Evening all

Good evening everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself, although I've more or less got stuck straight in. My name is Paul and I am 24, from South Yorkshire. I am married and have two children. I'm an avid reader, as are most here, and began with Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton when growing up. I was a frequent visitor to my local library, but as I have grown up, it has been so easy and cheap to acquire books, I have built quite a collection, and I treasure them over most of my other posessions (I'm quite obsessive over book care, etc.) I love to read Ian Rankin and have polished the Rebus series off three times. Favourite books include; The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides The Damned United by David Peace Obviously, anything by Ian Rankin The Harry Potter series (my second son is called Harry James:shrug:) Various professional Wrestling autobiographies (the whole aura that comes with the wrestling world from early 1900s to the end of "territories" in the late 1980's really interests me) Hope to see you all on the forums Paul
  10. I lose my bookmarks all the time. I might see if I can find a decent one on eBay and resolve not to lose it.
  11. I wish I could meet him...you're so lucky.
  12. I absolutely love the Rebus books. Amazing series, and I was lucky enough to read them from start to finish. Resurrection Men is amazing, as was Let it Bleed. I'm currently reading his non Rebus book, Doors Open and enjoying it so much!
