Synopsis ~

Haruki Murakami is an international phenomenon. When Books One and Two of his latest masterpiece, "1Q84", were published in Japan, a million copies were sold in one month, and the critical acclaim that ensued was reported all over the globe. Readers were transfixed by the mesmerising story of Aomame and Tengo and the strange parallel universe they inhabit. Then, one year later, to the surprise and delight of his readers, Murakami published an unexpected Book Three, bringing the story to a close. In order to reflect the experience of "1Q84's" first readers, Harvill Secker is publishing Books One and Two in one beautifully designed volume and Book Three in a separate edition. A long-awaited treat for his fans, "1Q84" is also a thrilling introduction to the unique world of Murakami's imagination.

This hypnotically addictive novel is a work of startling originality and, as the title suggests, a mind-bending ode to George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four". (The number 9 in Japanese is pronounced like the letter 'Q'). The year is 1984. Aomame sits in a taxi on the expressway in Tokyo. Her work is not the kind which can be discussed in public but she is in a hurry to carry out an assignment and, with the traffic at a stand-still, the driver proposes a solution. She agrees, but as a result of her actions starts to feel increasingly detached from the real world. She has been on a top-secret mission, and her next job will lead her to encounter the apparently superhuman founder of a religious cult.

Meanwhile, Tengo is leading a nondescript life but wishes to become a writer. He inadvertently becomes involved in a strange affair surrounding a literary prize to which a mysterious seventeen-year-old girl has submitted her remarkable first novel. It seems to be based on her own experiences and moves readers in unusual ways. Can her story really be true? Both Aomame and Tengo notice that the world has grown strange; both realise that they are indispensable to each other. While their stories influence one another, at times by accident and at times intentionally, the two come closer and closer to intertwining .

I enjoyed all three books of 'IQ84' but they are not my favourite books by Haruki Murakami. As always the sheer brilliance of his talent as an author shines through, it has everything in it that I love about his writing, the way he looks at Japan and how he creates an alternative universe which is believable and lovely to read. The reason why the three books are not my favourites? well its the length of the books, at times the story has a tendency to go on when its clear there is no need for it but the books are still enjoyable.

The characters as always are memorable and my favourite character was Aomame (its written in Japanese with the exact same characters as the word for 'green peas'), she was a strong woman but also very vulnerable, especially when it came to Tengo, its nice to see her shield slipping and you saw more of who Aomame was.

A fantastic read but just very long and I know I will read them again at some point.

Synopsis ~

Tabitha can’t shake the feeling that something exists beyond the fences of her village. And when she sneaks out, past the gates and down the path into the Forest of Hands and Teeth, she meets a boy who teaches her heart things she never knew. But love in a world surrounded by so much death doesn’t come without its sacrifices, and Tabitha gradually realizes just how much she’ll have to give up to live among the Unconsecrated.

The Story ~

'Hare Moon' is the story of Tabitha who eventually becomes the stern Sister Tabitha from the first book in the Forest of Hands and Teeth Trilogy, 'The Forest of Hands and Teeth'. Tabitha is young and idealistic and believes there is a world outside the fences which surround her village and pass the unconsecrated (the walking dead who rose after 'The Return') who wander the forest. Tabitha begins to explore secretly the enclosed walkways through the forest where she meets Patrick, a boy from another village, who also wishes to escape but can they escape?

What I thought of 'Hare Moon' ~

I am a big fan of 'The Forest of Hands and Teeth' trilogy and 'Hare Moon' is definitely an interesting addition to the series, you see Sister Tabitha as a young, idealistic woman who believes there can be a better life outside the village and strives to find it. The story shows the reason why Sister Tabitha is the person she becomes which helps you to understand her better.

A treat for fans of the series and a great introduction to the series for new fans too.

Synopsis ~

Rules are different outside the Society. Chasing down an uncertain future, Cassia makes her way to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky, taken by the Society to his certain death-only to find that he has escaped into the majestic, but treacherous, canyons. On this wild frontier are glimmers of a different life and the enthralling promise of rebellion. But even as Cassia sacrifices everything to reunite with Ky, ingenious surprises from Xander may change the game once again. Narrated from both Cassia's and Ky's points of view, this hotly anticipated sequel to Matched will take them both to the edge of Society, where nothing is as expected and crosses and double crosses make their path more twisted than ever...Incredible sequel to acclaimed international bestseller, Matched.

The Story ~

Following on from 'Matched' the first book in the trilogy, Cassia is searching for Ky who is in the Outer Provinces facing certain death by a society who apparently care for their people. Ky manages to escape in to the canyons and is trying to make his way back to Cassia. Ky and Cassia are reunited in the canyons and much to Ky's concern go in search of the Rising. With the society after them and facing an uncertain future, will Ky and Cassia finally find their place in the world?

What I thought of ~

I enjoyed 'Crossed' to a point, the characters were more developed and you learned more about them and with the introduction of new characters, it gave the book a nice flow to it but most of the book is Ky and Cassia wandering around canyons and at certain points I really hoped they would be chased, just for more excitement. Also Ky and Cassia are very similar in narration and a few times I had to check to see which narrative I was reading.

The story did keep my interest and I am looking forward to the third and final book in the trilogy.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and Siobhan Dowd ~ Started: 01.01.12 ~ Finished: 01.01.12

Title of Book: A Monster Calls

Name of Author: Patrick Ness and Siobhan

Kindle Edition

File Size: 2154 KB

ASIN: B006P0MWJQ

1-12.jpg

Synopsis ~

The monster showed up just after midnight. As they do. But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming... The monster in his back garden, though, this monster is something different. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor. It wants the truth. Costa Award winner Patrick Ness spins a tale from the final idea of much-loved Carnegie Medal winner Siobhan Dowd, whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself. Darkly mischievous and painfully funny, A Monster Calls is an extraordinarily moving novel of coming to terms with loss from two of our finest writers for young adults.

The Story ~

'A Monster Calls' is the story Conor O'Malley, a thirteen year old boy who is trying to cope with his Mum's illness whilst experiencing a terrible nightmare and bullying at school, Conor feels invisible and isolated. One night Conor wakes from his nightmare, its 12.07 am and he is surprised to finds the Yew tree which he has seen from his window in the church's graveyard his whole life is walking towards his house, Conor is surprised but not scared, much to the monster's chagrin. The monster tells Conor he will tell three stories and Conor must tell the monster the fourth story, a true story if Conor wants to survive.

As the monster tells the stories on each visit and also appears to Conor during the day, Conor finds it more difficult to cope with the risk of losing his Mum, the frustration and anger he feels at the world around him. Conor needs help and he hopes that the monster in some small way will help him.

What I thought of 'A Monster Calls' ~

'A Monster Calls' is a beautiful book, Conor's character will feel familiar to so many people who have experienced grief and the book unfolds in such a way that you share the journey with him.

The saddest part of the book is the fact that Siobhan Dowd, who originally thought of the story never got to see it in print but Patrick Ness has done an amazing job of bringing the story to life and left a memorable and heart warming legacy.

You will have a wee tear in your eye at the end, I did.

Synopsis ~

What's it like to be a zombie? Timothy Lipton finds that out in this hilarious, first-person look at the life and times of one of the undead. A victim of an experiment gone wrong on the way to finding a cure for the zombie plague sweeping the globe, Timothy soon hooks up with a partner -- Zombie Marilyn Monroe -- who turns out to be the unlikely accomplice he needs to navigate his way across the Wasteland to regain his memory and find the mysterious 'Meridian.' In their zombie Odyssey, Tim and Marilyn encounter the Wild Man, the Fat Lady, the Naked People and even Tim's wife. 'Zombie Honeymoon' takes the genre to places its never been before — not only inside the mind of a 'Zee' but to the inevitable conclusion that, yes, zombies want a little love, too.

The Story ~

'Zombie Road Trip' is the story of Timothy 'Tim' Lipton, a zombie, a result of a experiment gone wrong. Tim finds himself living amongst other zombies who like him are trying to survive the best way they can, which unfortunately means eating survivors. Unlike the rest of his counterparts, Tim has retained most of his human memories and he knows he must find a place called 'Meridian', so begins Tim's journey along with his partner Marilyn Monroe (a girl who died dressed as the star) across the wastelands where they meet various individuals and discover 'zombie love'.

What I thought of 'Zombie Road Trip' ~

'Zombie Road Trip' is a easy fun read, Tim's thoughts on the world are at times funny and surreal. 'Zombie Vacation' is also left open for a potential sequel.

Zombie Tales: Primrose Court Apt 205 by Robert DeCoteau ~ Started: 07.01.12 ~ Finished: 07.01.12

Title of Book: Zombie Tales: Primrose Court Apt 205

Name of Author: Robert DeCoteau

Kindle Edition

Synopsis ~

Theodore Granger believes he’s cursed. He’s spent the last ten years locked away inside his apartment. But today is his day, the day he is to venture out into the world again. There is only one simple task on his agenda: walk one block, cross the street, and have a cup of coffee with his shrink. The only problem is, he chose the wrong day.

The Story ~

'Zombie Tales: Primrose Court Apt 205' is the first story of three short stories which are in the same universe of 'Don of the Living Dead' by Robert DeCoteau. Theodore Granger lives in Apartment 205, he owns Primrose Court and is agoraphobic (a fear of public places) and today is the first time in ten years that he is leaving his apartment to meet his therapist, Theodore wants to go out, he knows he has to but due to a never~ending bad luck streak, Theodore believes he is cursed, bad things happen around him and lives are lost, and Theodore becomes ill.

As Theodore waits to face the world, his neighbours are annoying him as usual (his neighbours incessant arguing and the strange teenager who lives above them) but what he and his neighbours do not realise, is that the world is changing outside for everyone.

What I thought of 'Zombie Tales: Primrose Court Apt 205' ~

Theodore Granger has to be the most unluckiest person in the world and I understood completely why he could not face going outside. Despite the fact its a short story, Robert DeCoteau successfully highlights Theodore agoraphobia in a real and sympathetic way which made for interesting reading. By the end of the story, you will wish along with Theodore that he really should have stayed at home.

An interesting introduction showing the human side of an approaching Zombie outbreak.

As Charles's day becomes steadily worse, he walks outside into chaos but he knows he must get away before its too late.

What I thought of 'Zombie Tales: Primrose Court Apt 305' ~

Charles Grimly, he is such a poor soul, unhappy and not sure what to do next, as with the previous story, its keeps you interested and you want to know what will happen next.

Synopsis ~

In this dramatic prequel to the award-winning Chaos Walking Trilogy, author Patrick Ness gives us the story of Viola's journey to the New World. Whether you're new to Chaos Walking or an established fan, this prequel serves as a fascinating introduction to the series that the Sunday Telegraph called "furiously paced, terrifying, exhilarating and heart-breaking."

The Story ~

'The New World' is the prequel to the very popular 'Chaos Walking' Trilogy by Patrick Ness. 'The New World' tells the story of Viola and her journey to the New World (a planet which has been colonised by a small group of Christian settlers from the 'Old World') with her parents. Viola has spent her life on a spaceship where her parents are selected to return to the New World to get ready for the rest of the convoy. Viola is full of trepidation about the the trip and is very vocal with her opinions but there is no going back, the New World awaits.

What I thought of 'The New World' ~

'The New World' is a great introduction to the 'Chaos Walking Trilogy' and also a new story for existing fans. The story was interesting and you find out what happened to Viola and her parents when they landed on the New World. Despite the briefness of the story, it does pack a punch and I am now planning to re~read the series.

Hello Paula, and a happy reading in 2012! :friends3: I can't believe you've already read 15 books this year, that's almost one book per day with a week to rest :D Great going Paula! I really need to get my hands on the Murakami trilogy someday :)

Thanks Frankie :) Its only short books mostly on my kindle which rose the number :) I do think you will like 'IQ84', I am sorry I can't remember if you have read any Murakami (excuse my old brain :giggle:), 'IQ84' is well worth a read, its not one of my favourites of Haruki Murakami but I will no doubt read it again. :)

I've only read Sputnik Sweetheart, and I don't think I rated it very high at the time, but the more I've thought about it after the reading, the more I liked it. It's one of those books that stays with you and I dare assume Murakami's other books are like that as well. I have maybe 8 books of his on the bookshelves, and I so want to read them, but somehow I've never picked them up. It's like, I usually leave the best til last, and I guess I'm saving them til a very special time. It doesn't make any real sense :D

Hi Rose, how are you? I can't wait to hear to what you think of 'The Forest of Hands and Teeth', its a rare for me to like all the books in a series but I did with 'The Forest of Hands and Teeth', 'Hare Moon' is also a great addition, I wanted it to last longer. :)

Hi hen, how are you? It makes total sense :) 'Sputnik Sweetheart' is a funny book but it does stay with you as you said, I can't remember much of it, which I know is terrible but I remember 'Kafka on the Shore' and 'The Wind Up Bird Chronicle' like the back of my hand, anyway I am waffling, Haruki Murakami books definitely stay with you. :)

The Child Thief by Brom ~ Started: 03.01.12 ~ Finished: 18.01.12

Name of Author: Brom

Paperback

ISBN-13: 978-0061671340

7.jpg

Synopsis ~

Exploring the darkness at the heart of the beloved Peter Pan legend, acclaimed artist Brom takes readers into a faerie land at once magically wondrous and deeply disturbing. Threatened by drug dealers who stalk his mother's home, 14-year-old Nick is saved by a strange and compelling boy named Peter. Now this wild boy with flaming hair and pointy ears wants Nick to follow him into a strange and unsettling mist, to a faraway land filled with faeries and monsters. Wary, yet with nowhere safe to go, Nick agrees. Entering a gray and ravished island that was once a lush, enchanted paradise, Nick finds himself a soldier in a war that has raged for centuries. He must learn to fight or die as he struggles to fit in with the Devils - Peter's savage tribe of lost and stolen children. He also discovers the truth about the mysterious Peter - a leader of bloodthirsty children, a brave friend, and a creature lost himself, driven to do whatever he must to save his dying land. Beautifully illustrated by the author, "The Child Thief" is a vivid and compelling retelling of a beloved classic for modern readers.

The Story ~

'The Child Thief' is the story of Peter Pan, the darker side of Peter Pan. Nick, 14 years old, feeling abandoned, isolated and scared is the perfect candidate for Peter and his Devils, his tribe who fight for Avalon in a war which has lasted for centuries. Nick finds himself leaving a situation which is out of his control to face a situation which is terrifying but Nick finds himself in control of his life, he just has to survive.

What I thought of 'The Child Thief' ~

When I was growing up I was never a fan of fairy tales, I firmly believed that Princesses should get themselves out of the tower and wake themselves up, I always preferred the darker side of fairy tales and this is exactly what I found with 'The Child Thief', its dark, beautiful with a subtle edge which shines throughout the story. The characters are all well developed and I found it very difficult to chose a favourite amongst the Devils but Nick along with Peter definitely shine as a characters, I loved the fact that Nick finds himself in a dangerous situation in Avalon and faces it as well as he can, it was brilliant to read. Peter is definitely not the 'Peter Pan' of the Disney film (which I have still to sit through, yes it annoys me that much) he is more sinister but compelling, a boy but not a boy.

As always with Brom, the illustrations are beautiful to look at, individualistic with a gorgeous Gothic feel. 'The Child Thief' is unforgettable, a definite classic.

Synopsis ~

Michael Vyner recalls a terrible story, one that happened to him. One that would be unbelievable if it weren't true!

Michael's parents are dead and he imagines that he will stay with the kindly lawyer, executor of his parents' will . . . Until he is invited to spend Christmas with his guardian in a large and desolate country house. His arrival on the first night suggests something is not quite right when he sees a woman out in the frozen mists, standing alone in the marshes. But little can prepare him for the solitude of the house itself as he is kept from his guardian and finds himself spending the Christmas holiday wandering the silent corridors of the house seeking distraction. But lonely doesn't mean alone, as Michael soon realises that the house and its grounds harbour many secrets, dead and alive, and Michael is set the task of unravelling some of the darkest secrets of all.

A nail-biting story of hauntings and terror by the master of the genre, Chris Priestley.

I enjoy Chris Priestley books having already read 'Tales of Terror from the Black Ship' and 'Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror' and The Dead of Winter' was just as good. It is an intriguing story which will have you engrossed to the end.

Synopsis ~

An ordinary man, Tom Wallace suddenly finds himself the possessor of extraordinary psychic abilities that allow him to "hear" the private thoughts of the people around him, but the nightmare worsens when he becomes the recipient of a compelling message from beyond the barrier of death.

The Story ~

'A Stir of Echoes' is the story of Tom Wallace who leads a normal life until he is hypnotised by his brother in law, suddenly Tom is seeing spirits and reading peoples thoughts, what has been opened in his mind?

What I thought of 'A Stir of Echoes' ~

Its only been a few years since I discovered Richard Matheson, the first book I read was 'I am Legend' (which is now one of my favourite books) and then 'What Dreams May Come' and planned to read more of his books. 'A Stir of Echoes' is a interesting story, opening all possibilities of the human psyche. Tom Wallace is your average Joe, he goes to work, he goes home to his pregnant wife and son until he is hypnotised by his brother in law, suddenly he finds facing a terrifying experience which he does not understand and begins to question his sanity.

What I liked the most about 'A Stir of Echoes' is the fact that it kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen next. I am definitely going to read more books by Richard Matheson.

Synopsis ~

God is a slick god. Temple knows. She knows because of all the crackerjack miracles still to be seen on this ruined globe...

Older than her years and completely alone, Temple is just trying to live one day at a time in a post-apocalyptic world, where the undead roam endlessly, and the remnant of mankind who have survived, at times, seem to retain little humanity themselves.

This is the world she was born into. Temple has known nothing else. Her journey takes her to far-flung places, to people struggling to maintain some semblance of civilization – and to those who have created a new world order for themselves.

When she comes across the helpless Maury, she attempts to set one thing right, if she can just get him back to his family in Texas then maybe it will bring redemption for some of the terrible things she's done in her past. Because Temple has had to fight to survive, has done things that she's not proud of and, along the road, she’s made enemies.

Now one vengeful man is determined that, in a world gone mad, killing her is the one thing that makes sense…

Review from 2010 ~

'The Reapers are the Angels' is the story of Temple, fifteen years old, alone and moving from place to place across a post-apocalyptic America where the undead (or 'slugs' as Temple calls them) roam, Temple was born in the years following the return of the dead to parents she cannot remember, the world she lives in is the only world she knows, so she has learned to survive the best way she can by not getting close to anyone, her one attempt of normality ended badly and now she feels safer roaming, trying to find a place where she can settle.

As you know, zombie literature is popular and 'The Reapers are the Angels' will definitely become an classic within the genre. Alden Bell takes the subject of zombies and sways it away from the typical maundering zombies searching for brains, instead he shows the aftermath of a world which has changed, from people still living the same lives they lived before it happen to people using the undead as a form of existence, Temple sees all of this on her travels, she is a born survivor and its hard to believe that she is only fifteen years age at certain points in the book.

Temple as a character is well written, throughout the book she seems so detached from the world around her but you quickly realise, its not so much detachment as living in the world she has always known and as the story progresses you find out more and more about Temple (as much as she wants to tell you as narrator) and you know there is one way for Temple to go, you see glimpses of what Temple would have been like in a different world, which is sad to read because by the end of the book you will genuinely care for Temple.

There has been comparisons between 'The Angels are the Reapers' and 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy but I do not think there is, 'The Angels are the Reapers' is different in the fact that it is not so much how much carnage can be made but the way one person looks at the world.

Read it as soon as possible.

Review 2012 ~

This is the second time I have read 'The Reapers are The Angels' and as always with most of my re~reads I enjoyed it more the second time. Temple is a wonderfully vivid character, her strength, her confidence, her outlook of the world, her vulnerability shine through, she is only 15 years old and has learned to survive the best way she can by constantly moving, isolating herself and dealing with her own past, her guilt.

With my second reading, I found myself focusing more on the character of Moses Todd, a man who is pursuing Temple for his own reasons, which to his credit he sticks to throughout the book, despite whatever happens, like Temple, he is looking for redemption and they both find it.

Also with most books I usually see the potential for a sequel, this would never had worked with 'The Angels are The Reapers', Temple only has one story to tell and its hers.

A book I know I will read again and again.

The Tooth by Shirley Jackson ~ Started: 19.01.12 ~ Finished: 19.01.12

Title of Book: The Tooth

Name of Author: Shirley Jackson

Kindle Edition

File Size:109 KB

ASIN: B004MME2ME

12.jpg

Synopsis ~

'Her tooth, which had brought her here unerringly, seemed now the only part of her to have any identity. It seemed to have had its picture taken without her; it was the important creature which must be recorded and examined and gratified; she was only its unwilling vehicle...'The creeping unease of lives squandered and the bloody glee of lives lost is chillingly captured in these five tales of casual cruelty by a master of the short story. Portraying insanity, disturbing encounters, troubling children and a sinister lottery, Shirley Jackson's work has an unmatched power to unnerve and unsettle. This book includes The Tooth, The Witch, Charles, The Lottery and The Intoxicated.

The Story ~

The Tooth is a collection of stories by Shirley Jackson which originally appeared in 'The Lottery and Other Stories' (which I have read).

The Tooth ~ The Tooth is the story of Clara Spencer, a woman experiencing painful toothache who gets the bus to New York to receive dental treatment. What begins as a ordinary journey descends into an almost dream like scenario where Clara meets a man called 'Jim', who tells her he will look after her, is what is happening to Clara real or the stress of her toothache just too much?

The Witch ~ The Witch is a brief story which leaves a lasting impression. A young boy travelling with his Mum and baby sister believes he has seen a witch, it may not be a witch but he meets a man who tells him a dark tale.

Charles ~ Charles is the story of Laurie who has just started kindergarten and tells his parents daily of the exploits of Charles, a boy in his class who causes trouble. Charles's Mother who narrates the story begins to worry as Laurie starts to mimic Charles's many traits, so his Mother decides to speak to Charles's Mother, what is bothering Charles?

The Lottery ~ The Lottery is the story of a small village who participate in the annual lottery, a ritual to ensure a good harvest. The first round consists of the head of the family drawing a piece of paper, if the family gets a piece of paper with the black spot on it, it means their family has been chosen, the next round, each of the family members chose a piece of paper, whoever get the piece of paper with the black spot on it, they have 'won' the lottery and must provide for the harvest.

The Intoxicated ~ The Intoxicated is the story of a man at a party, somewhat tipsy he meets the daughter of the household, they talk about unsettling matters.

What I thought of 'The Tooth' ~

'The Tooth' is a great collection of stories, well written with a sinister edge to them. My favourite story is 'The Lottery', its callous how the villagers see 'The Lottery' and how acceptable it is. I love Shirley Jackson's style of writing and I have said it before and will no doubt say about it, there is something fierce about her writing, she takes no prisoners, I like that.

I think this is the first time I've visited your 2012 blog this year. I am in awe of the number of books you've read. Mostly they're not the kind of thing I read, and I'm not mad about getting into series, but I do very much like the look of the Chris Priestley books (I've got 'Tales of Terror' on my Wish List following a recommendation from you ages ago).Happy reading in 2012 - at this rate you'll have read about 200 books by the end of the year!

Synopsis ~

At last he had solved the puzzle of Lemarchand's box. He was standing on the threshold of a new world of heightened sensations. In moments the Cenobites - who had dedicated an eternity to the pursuit of sensuality - would be here. They would reveal dark secrets that would transform him for ever. But with the exquisite pleasure would come pain beyond imagining.

The Story ~

'The Hellbound Heart' is the story of Frank and his pursue of pleasure with Lemarchand's box, a puzzle box which leads him to the Cenobites, who are dedicated to all manners of pleasure and pain. Frank wants to escape the Cenobites and his brother, Larry is the only person who can help him.

What I thought of 'The Hellbound Heart' ~

I have re~read 'The Hellbound Heart' a few times now and I still enjoy it as much as I did the first time I read it. Clive Barker is one of my favourite authors and I am particularly fond of his earlier books. 'The Hellbound Heart' shows the darker side of the pursuit of pleasure and as sinister as the Cenobites are, its quite difficult to feel any sympathy for Frank. You never want to meet the Cenobites. Dark and sinister, Clive Barker at his best.

Fearworld (A Horror Short Story) by Paul Melhuish ~ Started: 20.01.12 ~ Finished: 20.01.12

Title of Book: Fearworld (A Horror Short Story)

Name of Author: Paul Melhuish

Kindle Edition

File Size: 174 KB

ASIN: B004VWKVKC

14.jpg

Synopsis ~

Emerging like fish from water, the shapes took form in the air and landed softly among the commuters. A hideous cold accompanied them. Confused passengers saw the monstrosities change shape from formless bodies into uniformed train guards. Uniformed train guards with rubbed-out faces and slits for mouths.

"…tickets… please…"

After the photophobes are summoned into our dimension, what hope is there for the survivors? One man, at least, is prepared to strike back!

I found 'Fearworld' for free on amazon and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The story is brief but very intense and it has so much potential as a full novel. It tells the story of a show staged by a magician who opens a new dimension which causes death and destruction in this world. As survivors cluster together facing the night as more death is caused, candlelight is their only safety and the day time is the only time they can roam but that can all change when the night becomes permanent. As mentioned, the story is very intense, interesting and I would love to see this story as a novel.
