I look forward to your thoughts on Valley of the Dolls, which I have on my TBR pile.

It was a tad depressing, but I couldn't put the book down. I'd definitely recommend it.

Just started "Anna Karenina" on the train this morning. :)

I've wanted to read this book forever, yet I never get around to starting it.

Finished The White Tiger. Now I'm trying to decide between The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton or The End Specialist by Drew Magary. Gone With The Wind keeps tempting me as well, but I'm not in the mood for a long read.

I put off reading Gone with the Wind so many times because its size scared me. I finally took the plunge and read it two summers ago and now its my all time favorite. It was so captivating that you completely forget you're reading a 1,000 page book. Hope you enjoy whichever one you choose. =)

I started Room by Emma Donoghue. I also received a few books I ordered.

I got:

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

I agree! The size of the book was simply daunting, but once I started reading the book I just kept flying through the pages and I was so sad when it finished, I could've kept on reading!

Room was my favorite book last year, I hope you enjoy it! Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Book Thief are also awesome. And The Art of Racing in the Rain is pure gold, that's an amazing book. Have some Kleenex near by when you read it!

Stop making me add books to my wish list, woman! :P

I started reading Norton Juster's Alberic the Wise and Other Journeys today. It's very short so I'll easily finish it today.

I didn't check the PO box today, but I will tomorrow, for sure!

I just looked up the Garth Stein book. As soon as I saw the dog on the cover, I realised why you must love it!

You didn't check today? You might have a packet there!

Well yes, it's a doggy book, but a really good one! One that people who aren't hardcore doggy fans will also appreciate and like!

Edit: It's the best doggy book I've read, and I've read a few!

It's even better than The Last Family in England by Matt Haig? I know you really loved that one (and before you say anything, I'll get to it eventually! :P)

All righty. I'll go out in a bit and check it. :)

As much as I loved The Last Family in England, The Art of Racing in the Rain is wayyy better! (and haha, I guess I'll let it slide this time )

Edit: Oh. Don't go and check it because you feel obliged. Go and check whenever. And it might be that it'll arrive tomorrow, it's not a done-deal that it should've arrived today!

Too late! :D I went, I'm back and I have a package from the BD that I'm pretty sure I didn't order! Awaiting your instructions...

Do you need further instructions? Well... hm... put it on the shelf and start reading Stiff instead!

:giggle:

Edit: I just realised that if you received your book, there's a certain Hemingway waiting for me in Joensuu when I get back home

I felt the same way about Gone With The Wind. It was so big I couldn't face reading it for ages. Finally picked it up last year, and loved it. And even though it was such a long novel, I honestly don't think any of it needed to be cut out. The film is long too - about 4 hours - but well worth watching.

The Art of Racing in the Rain is an AMAZING book. I totally agree with Frankie, it's just a fabulous read. Ditto The Book Thief - terrific. I loved Breakfast at Tiffanys too. Different from the film, but just as enjoyable. (And I have The Hunger Games trilogy on the Kindle, but am saving those for holiday). I hope you enjoy the other three as much as I did :)

I'm still reading Painting Ruby Tuesday, for my f2f reading group. It's....meh. Quite good, easy enough reading and amusing in places, but it still hasn't really grabbed me.

I have received an awesome birthday present in the mail from Frankie: Letters of Ayn Rand. I've wanted this for ages and it's not easy to come by! Thank you so much, Frankie! *hugs*

You want me dump my precious new book? :o

It took me a while to work out your Hemingway comment. I gather you ordered that at the same time you ordered mine? Which one did you buy?

I completely agree with all of this.

That's one awesome book haul, bookworm! The Book Thief, Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Hunger Games are all among my favourite books. :) I really enjoyed Room too.

:giggle: No. Go ahead, lick it, I know you want to!

Yep, I ordered my Hemingway the same day I ordered your Rand. Good thinking, 99! :smile2: I got The Moveable Feast. I borrowed it from the library but then noticed that it might become a really precious book for me, what with Hemingway talking about Gertrude Stein and Shakespeare & Company and then I BD'd the title and found this beautiful edition for only a little under 6e  I couldnt' resist!

Sounds like you have some great reads coming up -- I agree with the majority: "Room" was definitely my favorite of last year, and "The Book Thief" and "THG" were both reads I really enjoyed, also! I'm kinda jealous you get to start at the beginning with all of these.

The Forgotten Garden was a lovely read, as was The House at Riverton, though I have to say I found The Distant Hours disappointing, it could easily have been 200 pages shorter..

I haven't read any of her other books, though I've lost count of the number of times of plucked The House at Riverton off the library shelf, only to keep putting it back. I read a lot of reviews that say The Forgotten Garden is her best book, so I think I made the right choice in starting it.

After all the positive comments I've heard about Gone with the Wind, I think I'll probably make it my next read.

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

You are in for such a treat with these two books. I read The Art of Racing in the Rain a short while ago, and absolutely loved it. Cried buckets, but it's so uplifting. And of course, The Book Thief is just wonderful as well. Very well written, and it just tugs at the heartstrings. I hope you enjoy them.

Aww, I'm sure it'll be there today, Frankie. I'm probably a VIP customer because I've bought so many books, so they probably saw my address and sent it extra quickly. :)

Surely they don't discriminate against other costumers just because you've been a hoarder?

Fortunately it's still early morning over here and today's mail hasn't been delivered, so maybe I'll get it later today. I'd better!!
