What's your job?

I really like knowing what people do in life. We obviously have one thing that ties us all together, our love of books. But maybe there's more than we know. For me at least my study is a big part of my life and something I draw a lot of positive energy from, hope and plans and so on. I can't wait to finally start working in a few years. I'm studying to become a doctor, which is my dream job really. If I wasn't going to go down this path, I think I would have chosen either a nurse or a journalist of some kind.. because I do like to write.

This topic is inspired by something I wanted to share with you. The Norwegian nursing federation recently released a music video to describe their profession.

Translation of the song:

Heartbelief

Sister, you were there

You kept me alive

You, with your willing look

You never let go of the responsibility you took.

You, you were there to plant

Healthy buds of hope in my heart

Nursed the bud and watched it grow

Your safe hands and your safe words

You saw, you knew that I needed to see

Someone who was there to take care of me

Who really saw me

And you, nobody nobody but you

Through clouds in the sky and the sun that turns

It was you who gave me heartbelief.

That's only the first verse and refrain, but you get the gist of it. I cry instantly at this video. I think anyone who's been admitted to a hospital knows the difference a nurse can make in people's lives.

Well I am currently a stay at home mum whilst my boyfriend is finishing his degree.

I would like to go to university myself at some point but I do not know what I want to study. I'd love to be an archaeologist, midwife (specialising in teenage pregnancies) or a clinical psychologist.

I have had many different jobs over the years, each of which was, like my current job, my dream job at that particular time. They didn't always finish off that way, but I learnt a lot from each of them, and after all, what is life about if it isn't learning? The greatest learning has come from the job I do now - as a full time housekeeper in a nursing home. It is the best, most rewarding job I have ever had. I also have an unpaid job as Editor of my village newsletter, which is also very rewarding, but in a totally different way.

I am an Aircraft Engineer, I maintain, repair and modify aircraft so they can keep flying throughout the year. Its pretty much all I've done since leaving college and most of the time I really enjoy it. At times, working outside in the cold and rain throughout the night gets irritating but at least it keeps things interesting. In the beginning I didnt think I would ever qualify but it made all the studying (5 years) worth it in the end.

I had what I always thought was my dream job - I was an actor! I was on the stage from the age of 3 and after 20 years in the biz (and finally managing to make a living from it) I realised it was not what I wanted to do after all and I quit. In the end it was the stress of constantly moving around and remembering lines (I have the world's worst memory!) that killed it for me. I've never regretted that decision.

Currently I really AM in my dream job - I'm a stay-at-home Mum to Xander who just turned 3. I work 3 evenings a week at a bookie's which isn't the best job in the world, but it helps ends meet and is flexible, meaning I get to stay home with Xan all day and can pretty uch pick and choose my hours, which is very handy. When Xan (and his younger brother or sister if and when they ever arrive!) go to school, I'll go back to day work - pobably back into an office. Till I had Xan, I worked in the CE office at the local counsil and I loved it there. I hope I'll fnid something like that again in the future. :)

Actually, I think I'd like to work in publishing, given the chance . Ithnk I'd make a great editor. I'm currently proofreader and assistant editor for a Pagan magazine (free of charge) and I love doing that. I also occasionally write an article for them. I'd also love to one day make a living with my cross stitch designs, but I think that will only ever be a sideline...

PS please excuse all the typoes - I'm typing this one-handed whilst eating before heading out to work - LOL!

I am a Director with my sister in the family business, which my Grandad started in 1938, the business is a shoe shop, we have survived many recessions but this one has nearly finished us, the past 3 years have been difficult with last winter being horrendous, in March we had to make radical decisions and had to let go of all our staff, one had been with us 27 years, very difficult it was as we considered her a friend.

Over the summer it became obvious we had to diversify or go under, after a lot of head banging and frustration (and disagreements) we decided to try a dress agency and it seems to be going rather well and footfall is improving, will it be enough to save us, hopefully, but I haven't got a crystal ball :(

I am currently jobless but am studying Early Childhood studies. But I don't know what I am going to do with the qualification once I've finished in June. I will have a level 5 qualification. Ideally, My dream job would be a forensic pathologist, but I know now that dream will never happen as it takes at least 5 years in education to get there and I've already spend my life studying. I cannot go ahead with anymore. I wish I had known what I really wanted to do before I started studying childcare.

I've been very fortunate in that I have loved every job I have had since leaving school many moons ago. First I was a shop assistant in a supermarket where I was taught all the ins and outs of the different sections which led to me being able to do holiday releif in the smaller community Co-ops. I left to have Kat and was a stay at home mum for a couple of years before becoming a doctor's receptionist, again I loved this job and it only ended because the GP sadly passed away so was made redundant. My next job was working behind a bar which I did for 7 years, even went back after leaving to have Hannah :). I left there to move to Blackpool and help my MIL run a hotel, again I loved meeting new guests but wasn't too much of a fan of all the cleaning lol. We had to sell up when hubby had his accident and was in no state to take over from his mum who wanted to retire.

I am now an admin officer for the DWP currently acting up to decision maker, apart from a little hick up a few weeks ago I do still enjoy working there.

My dream job would be in a library or small bookstore closely followed by running a small farm :)

I am an archaeologist and I loved my job when I started, I studied it at university and seemed like a ntural choice to go into the practical side of things, I worked on some great jobs stayed in some less than salubrious B&B's worked on my own on a site with over 200 builders but also as part of a team of over 90 archaeologists on what is now T5 at Heathrow met some of the wierdest and nicest people in the world. For the last 6 years I have been in management and its different for the main part I still enjoy it (giving up the fieldwork was a result of 12 years living out if a bag from week to week and paying rent on a house I never saw oh and ageing body) but its also had its major down points I have since 2008 been involved through my job in making people redundant when the company changes or not renewing contracts something which I had to do to 7 people today. :(

so my ideal job these days is working for myself in a studio and just enjoying drawing preferably with no pressure to make money....ahhhh it is but a pipe dream unless I win the big one.

Back in my younger days I was a nurse. I still have my license but havent worked in many years . It was the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life .

I went from nursing into respiratory care, taking care of people with any type breathing disorder .

After leaving nursing to stay home to raise the family, I worked part time on our ambulance squad in town .

I wish I would have kept up my education ( not sure how the system works elsewhere, but here, you have to take continuing ed credits each year in order to be qualified to keep updated ),and I haven't done it for many years.

Now that I am older and have so many health issues, I'd be unable to work or to even complete all the schooling I need .

I haven't worked since then,just a housewife .

Brian, my brother does the same job as you and has for many years. He loves it :)

I work full time as an accountant for a large travel company. The company also has a hotel and restaraunt division and until a couple of years ago also a marketing side, which is where I worked for about 8 years. I've been in the travel dept for 4 years and I really like it. Even though I'm an accountant I still get travel discounts which my fave part of working there :)

I also have a part time job at a retail chain where I work some nights and weekends. I got the second job so I could save more money and be completely debt free, which I'll be in 2 years. Yahoo! :D Then I'll get to do much more traveling, so some of you may see me on your doorstep soon!

Ooh, me, choose ME! I want you to come and visit. :D Lucky you, debt free in two years! I'm a bit behind you. I hope to be debt free in 14 years. :(

I have a full-time job at a bank. It's not as dull as it sounds because it's not your regular bank, but it is rather boring sometimes.

I also started work as a freelance editor several months ago, which has virtually become another full-time job. I don't have much of a life at the moment but I don't care because it's my dream job and I'm very happy. I seem to be doing well because the good folks who hired me want me to work for them full time as soon as I want to start. :D

I'm currently working as an under-paid, under-appreciated Office Coordinator for a specialty construction company. I'm working here only because this was the only job I could find. I was a temp for the last 6 months, but they recently made me permanent, but did not raise my salary, which is not really enough to get by on. I'm interviewing for a position as a Vocational Rehab Case Manager Assistant, which would pay almost twice as much and is more in my interest area.

But my dream job would be a writer or photographer, working from home.

Hi Paun

We have a tv show here called Amazing Race, and I think it was either this year or last that they went to Thailand. It is beautiful over there .

And the tv show you are talking about ? If you get Youtube on your computer, they have episodes of it on there . Just type it in the search !

Keep safe on those dangerous roads .

I'm a cross stitch designer. My health hasn't always been good and I needed something I could do from home, it also fits in with Alan because he does shift work and when I worked 9-5 I hardly ever saw him :( I like my job but because of it, cross stitch is not my hobby anymore .. I rarely stitch anyone elses designs and I miss that part of it. One of the main cross stitch magazines has asked me to design for them next year so that's encouraging. I'd love to have a job in publishing (Kylie .. you have a dream job :)) or be a writer but I haven't got a book in me (I've looked .. it's not there!) in any case I'd hate the promotion side of things, I'm not good at that with cross stitch but to have to sit in a store for a book signing would be the end of me .. it's ok if you're Jasper Fforde but one poor author in my local Waterstones the other week was trying to drum up interest and it looked torturous. It seemed like there was a shop full of people trying not to make eye contact with him.
