Lumo
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good book which has addiction as a main theme? I'm thinking more of a life story / biography rather than a book on the science of addiction or a self help guide. I would read it out of curiosity about what that life might involve and feel like rather than reading it for a cure or psychological explanation. chaliepud
I have this on my Amazon wish list - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Million-Little-Pieces-James-Frey/dp/0719561027/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319146112&sr=8-
Lumo
I nearly bought that one before, it seemed to get good reviews but was also criticised for sounding unbelievable and/or exaggerated. I think I would find it frustrating to read if it were over exaggerated, but looking again most of the reviews seem good. I might take a peak at some pages on Amazon :-)
~Andrea~
Daniella Westbrook's autobiography The Other Side of Nowhere is all about her cocaine addiction and is a fascinating read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. She's not a brilliant writer but writes well enough to tell her story. Also what about Junky by William Burroughs. I've not read it myself nor has it ever really appealed to me. Edited October 21, 2011 by ~Andrea~
Lumo
I'd not noticed either of those before, thanks, I'll take a look and try and make a decision :-)
frankie
Augusten Burroughs's Dry comes to mind. He's written a couple of memoirs, and this title is about him working in an ad agency, and having a heavy hand on alcohol. I enjoyed reading it, but I'll enjoy anything by Burroughs.
