smilerbabeuk
I'm looking for a book on the history of the British /english monarchy, from 1066 or even before up to Henry 8 or Elizabeth 1. I'd prefer a fairly easy read rather than a heavy academic book if possible. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
Raven
These may be a little academic, but David Starkey's Monarchy books may be what you are looking for (they were written to accompany the TV series, which was very interesting, so hopefully they won't be too heavy-weight). Janet
You might think these a bit 'young', but I love the Dorling Kindersley books - this one looks brilliant (although I've only seen it on this website, not in the flesh, so to speak!). ETA: It's only £4.47 delivered from Amazon - and they have lots of other books shown on that page too. chesilbeach
You could try This Sceptred Isle by Christopher Lee. It's actually based on a fantastic Radio 4 programme which can be bought on CD (an incredible 28 discs) read by the fabulous Anna Massey. I have to admit, I've only listened to it, not read the book, but it sounds like it covers what you want, and a bit more!

SueK
These may be a little academic, but David Starkey's Monarchy books may be what you are looking for (they were written to accompany the TV series, which was very interesting, so hopefully they won't be too heavy-weight). I've got the first book in the Monarchy series (which details the Normans and early Plantaganets) - this is the only one I wanted as it's my favourite era. It is excellent and very readable.
