The Chronicles of Narnia

For my son when he was younger:

The first few Harry Potter

A few Goosebumps

The Beatrix Potter books

A couple of the modernised Noddy books

Do you have many of them yourself, Emelee?

Singles:

A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens...I have a couple of used copies, I think.

The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien...I have two copies.

The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien...I used to have two, and then I gave one to my brother.

Series:

Harry Potter - J.K.Rowling...I have the first four in paperback, and the rest in hardcover.

Berenstain Bears - Stan and Jan Berenstain...we had a ton of these growing up, and I think my parents have given them to my nephew.

The Baby-sitters Club - Ann Martin....I had about 60 of these (they were my favorites when I was young) and then gave them all to my boyfriend's sister, just before she grew out of them and became a goth.

Peter Rabbit - Beatrix Potter...I had a collection of four Beatrix Potter books, but I don't know what happened to them. I'm planning on getting a collection for my nephew for Christmas.

Not too bad for an American, I guess!

Only one I officially bought myself was 'The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien.

I did use my pocket money when younger on Mr Men books from the local market book stall. :smile2: I possibly may have also bought a Goosebumps book for myself from the travelling book fair in primary school.

I have never heard of many of these books, we do not really have many of those childrens books in Sweden. I have never heard of Peter Rabbit, Goosebumps, Mr Men, Baby-sitters club, Berenstain Bears, Noddy, Choose your own adventure, the Asian books there and some more. NEVER HEARD OF.

We have Nancy Drew, although she's named Kitty in Sweden. And we have Sweet Valley High, Harry Potter, Narnia too. But the other childrens books.... No.

The Enid Blyton books that are most famous in Sweden is the Famous Five series. Not sure if we have any of her other books.

Aside from Dream of the Red Chamber and On the Three Representations I have bought all the single entries at one point or another - I'm surprised Journey To The West didn't make it onto the list, though that may be yet another Wikipedia oversight. In the series list I have bought most of the titles in the Perry Mason series, a few Star Wars books, Bond; I've picked up a few of the Mr. Men and Little Miss series for my niece (making sure to note that I didn't buy them for myself here).

Never picked up Berenstain Bears.

It occurs to me that making note of the largest selling titles is extremely problematic, and many authors are confused about just how many copies of their own books have been sold, so something like this list must be taken with a pinch of salt.
