Clare
Hi, i've recently re-joined my local library and now i have no idea what books to read. I read just about anything but i do love a bit of a spooky story although from the books ive read recently you wouldn't know that. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I'm interested in anything supernatural and i freely admit to being a crazy cat lady. recently read: cat confidential-Vicky Halls, Look Back in Hunger-Jo Brand, Dear Fatty-Dawn French, Paw Tracks in the Moonlight-Denis O'connor. Thanks xxx
chesilbeach
Hi Clare - I'm not much of a spooky story person, but I did read and enjoy The Woman In Black by Susan Hill which you might like to try.

bethany725
You may could try "Shutter Island".. I haven't read the book, just recently saw the movie, but it has a bit of spooki-ness to it. Or I just checked one out called "The Little Stranger" by Sarah Waters that's supposed to be pretty spooky.
Chrissy
Hello Clare, and welcome to the forum. A few people have been looking to be spooked lately, so perhaps have a look at this thread for a few suggestions, and another one here, and here! There are a variety of possibilities. Or if you want to be really creeped out, there's the most disturbing fiction thread.
Clare
I'll look into those, thank you.
Chrissy
One question I must ask you....... Are you crazy? Or do you love crazy cats? Are you just very fond of them? Or do you love books about crazy cats? Or all four?
Clare
all of the above
Ooshie
My son and I both very much enjoyed Duma Key by Stephen King, which has some nicely scary supernatural bits!
pickle
Have you ever tried the John Connolly books they are quite dark and gothic
poppyshake
I second 'The Little Stranger' by Sarah Waters and also (for a true story) how about 'The Suspicions of Mr Whicher' by Kate Summerscale .. very chilling but true.
mirandashell
I've read the latter and it's not spooky but it is quite chilling. And very interesting. Got some great characters in it as well.

randa23
Hi Clare, the book the stuff of nightmares by malorie blackman is pretty scary, it might be for teenagers but i think you would be spooked.
Tristan
Well, nothing can beat a late 19th century ghost story, so why don't you try 'The Turn of the Screw', by Henry James? The film adaptation, The Innocents (1961) by Jack Clayton is also stellar. One of the best ghost films ever made. Just saying..
