Looking for a recommendation

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am hoping a few people can give me some recommendations of works of fiction that have a slightly more serious take on the legal/secret service(s)/spy 'world' than the the usual what I would call paint by numbers thrillers, where a crime happens on page 5 and by the end of the book the entire city/town seems to be involved and everything is wrapped up nicely and everyone lives happily ever after in a scoobydoo-esque kind of way..

I guess i'm thinking more John Grisham than Karin Slaughter..

Please dont say Frederick Forsyth, as I read The Afghan and I thought it was dire:lol:

I dont think there is a similar thread in existence already to ask for recommendations, if there is I apologise.

I look forward to hopefully reading some recommendations when I finish work today...

Happy

Well look at that, a quick look through the forum list and there is an entire board for this exact purpose, I do apologise it's early and I have my half asleep work 'head' on

John Le Carre sprang immediately to mind.

Boris Starling has written a few interesting books.

James Clavell's 'Nobel House' from his Asian Saga has intrigue a plenty.

I have just placed 'Shogun' the first book from the Asian Saga on hold at my library, i'm trying not to be scared by the size of it :friends0: just something about it seems interesting to me

Thanks for the tips!

I really like Stieg Larssons books, The Girl with the dragon tattoo, the girl who played with fire and the girl who kicked the hornets nest. I've read the first two and are currently reading the last one and it's so good.

I have thought of two more authors for you JCW!

Nelson DeMille writes a good thrilling tale, and David Linsey is an author I have been pleasantly surprised by. :D

Thank you Chrissy, I shall add them to my list.

Rose I sort of had a love/hate relationship with the millennium trilogy, :D I loved Lisbeth but I found the books quite a slog and I gave up on the 3rd one before finishing it.
