Rory Gilmore's Book List Challenge

Yay for Helter Skelter Kylie!! I was just thinking about you this morning when I read your post about In Cold Blood in my thread and was wondering if you've received HS yet. I don't think it's that big though, it seemed like an average book more or less. I guess I'm too nervous to have started it yet, I'm so hoping it's really good!

Macbeth is February's read isn't it? But isn't it also on Rory's List? Maybe I should try and read it too, that way I could actually take part in a BCF reading circle for once :)

You should definitely read Macbeth for the reading circle if you can, Frankie! It's great to be able to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. (Poor birds. :friends0:)

I was just looking at my new edition of Macbeth. I got a version that has one page of Shakespeare and then a modern-day translation on the next page. I'll try not to refer to the translation unless I get really stuck, but it's nice to know it's there.

I might also try to time it so we read Helter Skelter at the same time. I'll just wait until whenever you're ready, though, because I have a lot of books to keep me occupied in the meantime. :)

I think I'll certainly try, at least. I don't have a copy of my own so I will have to check the library for that. Do you like flies less than birds Kylie? If so, you could use the Finnish expression (kill two flies with one hit).

That's a very handy copy :friends0: I'd be very tempted to read the modern-day translation if I were you! But then again, I wouldn't feel such a sense of accomplishment at the end... But it's great if there are words that are outdated and one doesn't recognise them.

That would be great, but if you get too curious about it don't wait up for me :( I also have to finish A Spot of Bother before I can start anything, and I'm quite keen on the Anastasia books, and of course there's In Cold Blood (and then it's February and GwtW time). But I was thinking, since you've mentioned somewhere that you might want to have a lighter read at hand when you're doing GwtW and Macbeth, I was wondering if we should do the Casino Royale at the same time? It seems like such a short and easy read. What do you think?

Ooh yes, I'll be in that (reading Casino Royale).

How are you liking A Spot of Bother? I liked it OK, but enjoyed The Curious Incident... much more.

Flies are annoying, but I wouldn't really want to kill them either. :)

Good deal about Casino Royale! We'll be sure to finish it quickly, we can tick off another box from the 1001 list and get rid of the book asap :friends0:

I'm liking A Spot of Bother, but I have to say that the beginning of the novel was very promising and now it's just not delivering. I loved the beginning, I thought the whole book would be from the father's point-of-view which I thought would be quite comical, a bit like in the Curious Incident. But now it's just going all over the place and I don't seem to get a grasp of what this book is setting out to be. I'm going to finish it though and I do like it, but I have to agree that so far The Curious Incident is kicking this book's ass :)

Hm... let's just think that the flies I was talking about are zippers!

Is anyone else feeling a bit on the edge? Still need to wait a whole week? I know I could start the book right now if I wanted because none of us are forced to wait for the others, but I don't want to go ahead with it because I want to read it with you. And still I can't keep my pants on!

Wow, you can't keep your pants on? Maybe a belt or some suspenders could help with that. :D

Lol, I'm really anxious to start GwtW mostly because it looks like such a challenge and I'm in one of those 'bring it on' moods right now. I can't wait to read it with you guys either, it is so cool that we are doing this.

Yes, I'm feeling a bit on edge. I'm worried that I won't get my two current reads finished before the 1st and so I'll start later than everyone else. :D You should feel free to start whenever, but you'll just have to put up with us making comments on sections that you read days before us.

Cool beans. Should we start one now or wait a week? I would almost say now so in case people who don't happen to pop in here may notice it and decide 'Hey, I want to read that too.' Ya know?

I think that's a fabulous idea, I would've never thought of that myself! If anyone of you wants to set it up go ahead!

But I do want to wait for everyone though, I just wanted to let some steam off and let you know I'm living on the edge! It's like doing a little shadow-boxing before the real deal if you know what I mean. (And I do need to finish Psycho II before GwtW and I'd like to get a couple of other books going before that. In Cold Blood for example :D)

CaliLily, I like the suspenders idea  I wonder if there are any Rory suspenders out there....

Edit: By the way, I can't believe this forum doesn't have a thread on GwtW?!

I know, I can't believe it either! I'll start one here before I start getting ready fo work. That way at least it will be out there and ready for whoever wants to start.

You should get some Rory suspenders!! That would be so hott! *plots epic shopping trip to find suspenders*

Confession to make!!! I've read the first 30 pages of GwtW :D I couldn't resist and it was taunting me from the shelf... But I've put it down again and started Macbeth instead.

Good for you Fi! Way to get ahead of the game :D

I second Kylie, how are you liking it so far?

Here is the link to the brand spanking new Gone with the Wind thread  Use, discuss, enjoy.

I'm only glad you confessed Fi, otherwise we wouldn't know you're already reading it and couldn't ask you how you're liking it so far! And do read on if you wish

I've always wondered about the phrase 'brand spanking new'. It's sounds a bit naughty everytime I hear it :D On the other hand, CaliLily does have that Harlequin-covered version so who knows what kind of an edition she'll be reading...

Okay, so first I can't use 'hump day' because it sounds dirty and now I can't use brand spanking new? Aw, hell... my vocabulary is going to decrease exponentially... (Yay, my hump day is today! Less than half the week to go!)

*end of off topicness*

Very promising! I was going to pick it up again this afternoon but the Amazon fairy has just been and I've now got far too many new books to choose from :D I think I'm in the mood to read Macbeth though, strangely enough so new books will have to wait
