After having read the whole of the Flashman series, I was at a bit of a loose end book wise. Someone suggested the Sharpe series, but I was never too keen on the tv series so didn't bother. However, Asda were doing a box set for

Being somewhat of an overly appreciative fangirl, I have the DVD boxset and the books: both are fantastic, and though the physical depiction of Sharpe wavers in the series when compared with the books, Sean Bean was undoubtedly a capital choice. He happens to fall into my 'phwoar' category...

The Sharpe series was recommended to me & I've been picking up odd copies in the charity shops for awhile now but hadn't got round to making a start on them till now. I've just finished reading Sharpe's Rifles & I thought it was fantastic I was gripped from beginning to end & even stayed up late last night so I could finish it.

I love this series too, I picked up his first novel Sharpe's Eagle and loved it! Amazed by the historical accuracy and research he must of done. So then I went out and bought the whole series :blush2: . Started reading them in chronological order, just finished Sharpe's Prey which I liked a lot and is second only to Sharpe's Eagle IMO.

Also been watching the series, love Sean Bean as Sharpe and the series in general, shame they are a bit low budget though, can't really bring the scale of the battles to life. But they are still fun.

I have always liked the books, but the tv series [and dvd's of course] are also wonderful and that rarely happens does it? Great casting, really brings the books alive to see Sharpe in action! Very good writing, with a light touch and able to touch on the futility of war, as well as the bravery and small acts of kindness amongst the carnage. Also shows the Army class system [or rather, rank ]

possibly the best historical tv [apart from I, Claudius ] that I have seen.Again, with I , Claudius, the tv lived up to Robert Graves' book in my opinion.

I don't think Cornwell is a very good author compared to, say, Patrick O'Brian, but I truly enjoyed the whole Sharpe series. I also watched the series (from the library) as there are a few episodes that are not based on particular books and because Sean Bean is excellent as Sharpe. These books are easy to read, light-hearted, and very enjoyable.

I have just started to read Cornwells Sharpe series, I am now on the second book and I am injoying them as much as I have his other books. Like a few of his characters Sharpe can be a right-you know-what once in a while but you still like him and cheer him on.
