BookJumper
I am not a fan of Dan Brown at all; however if you're after History + Science, The Last Witchfinder by James Morrow is meant to be really good.
Ghost
Andy McDermot writes books much akin to James Rollins. David Gibbins and James Twining also come to mind and you might want to look at Clive Cussler too. Is it the Sigma Force books you like or the Science expedition type ones? The Sigma force books are my favourite, yet the science is still very entertaining. I just enjoy the combination of both.
Ghost
In that case you might want to take a look at the Covert One books, they are of much the same ilk and just as well written. To quote Wiki The Covert-One series is a sequence of thriller novels written by several authors in conjunction with Robert Ludlum. The books feature a team of political and technical experts, belonging to a top-secret U.S. agency called Covert-One, who fight corruption and conspiracy at the highest and most dangerous levels of society. The Covert-One series includes The Hades Factor, The Paris Option and The Altman Code by Gayle Lynds; The Lazarus Vendetta and The Moscow Vector by Patrick Larkin; and The Cassandra Compact by Phillip Shelby and The Arctic Event by James H. Cobb. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covert-One_series
