Hyperion by Dan Simmons

I am currently reading this. I was not too sure at first, but I think it is an amazing book.

I finished reading this today. It is pretty good. There are six or seven pilgrims all on a mission to this planet, Hyperion. One's a diplomat, one's a soldier, one's a detective, one's a poet, one's a scholar and one's a priest. Each one tells his story as to why he's there. Actually the private detective is a woman. On Hyperion there is a strange entity called the Shrike, which is very good at killing people, and has some control over time.

 

Thing is that it ends on a massive cliff hanger, because they arrive at their destination just as the last pilgrim finishes his story.
