pontalba
I have read The Princes of Ireland and The Rebels of Ireland by Edward Rutherfurd and thought they were excellent books. I have thinking about reading New York based on some of the reviews but haven't decided yet? I have the Irish series on the shelf, and NY. Hope I get to them sometime in the next year or two. pontalba
Maybe "after" you read some James Lee Burke. Burke is certainly above Rutherford on the list.

Spud
The only book of Rutherford's that I did not love was New York. There wasnt as much substance as the other books. It just didn't feel the same. The only one I haven't read is Russka, think that will be my next read.
timebug
I loved 'Sarum' as we had recently holidayed in the area when I read it! 'London' was a good read too, but I was let down by 'Russka' and 'Dublin' (was it called 'Dublin'?)
paulh2oman
London sounds a lot like Chesapeake by James A Michener. I love multigeneration novels. Absolutely agree with Kiwi about love/hate relationship with characters from each generation. I feel sad when beloved characters pass away and hope the next generation turns out well. The Kent Family Chronicles is similar.
Henryd
Is there any news on his next book? I see he is working on 'another big project' according to his official site but does anybody know any further details?
ksyfullah07
London by Edward Rutherfurd is agreathistorical fiction book with almost 1300 pages...(Thats Big!!!) It took almost 4 months to complete the book but that was a great reading. A good reader can complete the book in 1.5 months(I need too muh because I read it on my real leisure time) Recommended for everyone who wants to know the LONDON in depth...
