I have a little bit more to say about that later but, for now, let's get to the giveaway!     The Autumn Giveaway winner will be getting two Penguin Little Black Classics, The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe and To Be Read At Dusk by Charles Dickens. Both of these little books contain three atmospheric short stories, perfect for autumnal evenings. The winner will also get Mary Shelley tea (a lavender and vanilla black tea) from Rosie Lea Tea's Literary Tea Collection (https://www.rosieleatea.co.uk/collections/literary-tea-collection) and a chocolate skull, to really get that spooky atmosphere .   and...   A special treat for a special month. The winner will choose one of the following recent paperback releases from the independent bookshop Big Green Bookshop:       The Wych Elm by Tana French A House of Ghosts by W.C. Ryan Melmoth by Sarah Perry The Familiars by Stacey Halls  The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White   The winner will be chosen via the usual random selection process in one week. Patreon supporters are entered automatically. If you aren't a patreon supporter but you'd like to join in with this giveaway, you can support here: https://www.patreon.com/bookclubforum.   I really hope you're all going to like this introduction to the seasonal giveaways. It's been a lot of fun to put together. Other chocolate skulls may have been harmed during the selection process…

Ooooh, Kell, I quite like that States challenge. I like the idea of choosing one book SET in each place, as it would provide an interesting view of the culture of each state. I have to admit, I am pretty ignorant about the culture in a large part of my own country, especially the South, the Midwest, and the Northeast. I think I might try this challenge. :P

EDIT: I also am doing the Decades challenge...if anyone wants to see my list, you can find my challenges in my siggy.

New books added, including 29 new countries - the total now stands at 121 countries out of 198, which is mostly thanks to the infinately awesome Lexiepiper.

Lex, would you mind changing the total in your first post to 121?

Could "The Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank be listed under Netherlands and not Germany? Born in Germany admittedly, but moved to Amsterdam when she was only three or four.

For Sweden, I would add Kerstin Ekman's Blackwater or Under the Snow......mysteries set in the bleak north.

Thanks, I'm starting my challenge thread! I didn't know how this section worked, but now I know that I can start a thread here. My problem was that I've read a lot of books, but all from France or England! Too bad that I have not a single book from Africa! Maybe I have read some, but I don't remember. Anyway, it's time to do it now!

There are a few of us doing this challenge so you might be able to get some good recommendations from our own threads (and indeed lots of people here will have great recommendations for you). Good luck!

If I could, I'd do all the challenges but I would fail to my studies if I spent my whole time reading. :tong: I have found a new book to read, but it's French so it can't help my challenge, too bad! But I have found an other book, German, by Nietzsche, so THIS will be fine for my challenge! And for my mind, like the Sartre I've found.

One country missing, that I'd view as being crucial. America.

187. United States - [" Angels & Demons"- Dan Brown] ["Nineteen Minutes" - Jodi Picoult] ["The Memory Keepers Daughter" - Kim Edwards] ["The Notebook" - Nicholas Sparks]

This challenge looks great and I might take it on someday but at the moment I want to keep all freedom in my choice of books. Good luck!

You have to read The Bridge over the Drina . It's amazing  Not because Ivo was a Serb but because the book is amazingly good . I wish you great time while reading it sooner or later
