The Library Nook
999 challenge musings- I have been looking at LibraryThing and am thinking of joining the 999 challenge so here is where I am just noting down some ideas for categories. -Books from my TBR mountain (been on the shelves for more than a year) -Children's books (for my job) - Challenge books (books for challenges I am taking part in) - Reading around the world (a way to broaden my reading horizons) -Non-fiction - Crime, Thriller and Mystery - Classics - Recommendations (Books recommended to me online and from friends) - Fabulous Modern Fiction Provisional List- I may change! Potential Category- Books I have bought in 2009 New to me authors 9 books older than me 9 books younger than me I am worried that the modern fiction one is too broad and a bit like cheating:) Edited December 27, 2008 by The Library Nook
The Library Nook
Started last night Things I Want My Daughters To Know by Elizabeth Noble. Seems good so far, I read 'The Reading Group' a few years ago because of the subject matter (!) and thought I should try others of hers as well. The Library Nook
Finally finished the Noble today, enjoyed it but it seemed to drag on! I cannot decide what to read next, I have Grapes of Wrath out from the library what do people reckon? I also hit the charity shops today and received some books from BookMooch so I have added quite a few books to my TBR! Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill The Rose of Sebastopol by Katherine McMahon The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory The Testament by John Grisham The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory Payment in Blood by Elizabeth George
Stephanie2008
Started last night Things I Want My Daughters To Know by Elizabeth Noble. Seems good so far, I read 'The Reading Group' a few years ago because of the subject matter (!) and thought I should try others of hers as well. I'm on with The Reading Group now and Things I Want My Daughter To Know is next on my list. I'm really enjoying the format of the Reading Group - It doesn't focus too long on one character. The Library Nook
Last night I finished Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet. I then started reading Paul McKenna 'I can make you thin' because I was intrigued by it!

Janet
Have now finished the Paul McKenna- a nice quick read! Do you think his techniques will/do work? It seems too good to be true but I'd like to think it does work.
kernow_reader
What an interesting challenge, Library Nook. Do keep us posted on how it goes ~ Trish.
The Library Nook
Do you think his techniques will/do work? It seems too good to be true but I'd like to think it does work. I hope it does! Some of it people could argue is just common sense but the way he puts it across it makes it seem very simple. I got it after watching the series shown on living TV or one of those channels and it seemed very7 successful on there.

Ben
Some interesting challenges there. I tend not to concentrate on challenges, because most feel like I have to make a massive effort to read certain books, and I'm not exactly old enough to start trading and things like that. If I could find a challenge that I could complete in my own time, and that may just require me to buy books from bookstores every now and again, then I could be persuaded to take it. For now I think I'll just keep a list of 'books read in 09'. Anyway, sorry about that rant. Good luck with the challenges! ~Ben.
The Library Nook
Go ahead and rant lol! I do challenges purely because it gets me reading things on my TBR pile andd gets me moving away from my safe and normal reading choices. The challenges I chose are books I want to read anyway so it feels a little like cheating
Ben
I don't really understand what a TBR pile is? I'm assuming it's total books read, or books to read or something. Well like I said, If I find a good challenge I'll give it a shot. Otherwise I'll just stick to keeping track of all books read this year, and see how many I get through. The Library Nook
Yes TBR stands for To Be Read, I have a bit of a book acquiring habit. And I don't blame you for just keeping a list of the books you read. Happy revision!

Happy revision! Well I wont be doing a TBR pile then, because usually I just end up picking a book that I think sounds interesting, and reading it.. don't see the point of picking out a big list before-hand, unless I buy a lot of books in one sitting like I might do on Saturday. Oh joy! I should still manage to get through 100+ if not more, this year though. Saying that I've never made a list before, so I'm just going to try it this year and see how it goes. The Library Nook
The TBR pile is not a list it is just the books I own that are on my bookshelf, unread.
